    These were my 3 coaches:
    1. The wannabe thug coach
    2. The "No English" coach (so it was basically impossible to learn anything because none of us knew a word that came out of his mouth)
    3. The good coach

    The stacking birdie coach:
    Coach: *dumps out birdie box with like 10000 birdies* "Alright, lets stack all of these birdies by 50."
    *an hour later*
    Student: "OK COACH IM FINALLY DONE"
    Coach: "Oh well would you look at the time. You did a good job today" *high fives and walks away*

    My coaches:
    1. A former All England MD bronze medalist. But he's unable to play badminton anymore because of a injury, which is also the reason why he probably weighs 300 pounds. I loved him, he learnt me all the basics.
    2. A player who ranked around 150 worldwide, but was lazy AF. Went grocery shopping mid training, and ate sushi as we played free.
    3. A friend of the previous coach, not as good as a player, but definitely a good coach. We did a lot of physical exercise during his time.
    4. A coach who came to our club to learn how to coach. It was pretty frustrating at the beginning, but in the end the trainings turned better and better.

    Fun video. Hopefully, in my 10 years of coaching county badminton I didn't fall into any of these categories. My own observation was that coaches, like their players, are individual and a player needs to find the best fit for them. I have seen excellent coaches struggle to strike the right balance with their player(s), while a less experienced coach has achieved great outcomes with the same player(s).

    I play high school badminton because I deciding I needed something to do during my spring depression. I also do horse riding as another sport which is year round. I have an inconsiderate coach. I specified that I probably won’t be able to do conferences because I have to prepare for a competition where I could win money. Anyways, she signed me up for conferences which I am angry about because she decided not to take the safe and most convenient option. Depending on how the 5 hour period of suffering goes, it could make me too sore to ride properly, screwing over my chances to get a decent award.

    Btw your biceps and pecs are starting to pop out, does the extra muscles make you slower though?

    • @jaeglesbagels
      @jaeglesbagels 6 років тому

      No, gainer more muscle would make you faster, you'd only become slower from gaining fat.

    • @Joshua__Tan
      @Joshua__Tan 6 років тому

      Nah but whether its fat or muscle it's still extra weight you have to take around the court. I guess unless your pro, it's pretty negligible though.

    • @jaeglesbagels
      @jaeglesbagels 6 років тому

      Yeah but muscle is actually helpful in the sense that you can utilize it to generate extra power/speed with your movements, whereas fat is completely useless and just slows you down.

    • @Joshua__Tan
      @Joshua__Tan 6 років тому

      True, but pecs and biceps are part of the upper body and don't really help you move around the court. Legs definitely need to be strong though.

    Haha what an interesting Video Jonathan!
    Like I said before, I’ve never actually had a coach but this video is starting to make me believe that it’s good that I never had one 😅, Coaching is something I’ve always been kind of nervous about, for some reason, I have this mindset in my head that coaches will kill me when I do something wrong and it causes fear to build up inside and hence made me turn away from Coaching.
    Is $60 a normal price for Badminton coaches? That is $60NZD not USD lol, Just a very quick question.
    Thanks for the video again and the shoutout haha. Just a small note, My last name is pronounced “He” not “Hi” 😂

    • @SwiftBadminton
      @SwiftBadminton  6 років тому

      Haha this video may be a bit of exaggeration, I'm sure most coaches will be fine. That's £30 which seems pretty reasonable to me, that's a 1 on 1 session right?

    At least you have coaches. My family was too poor to pay for clubs and all the schools I ever went to only lets us play and doesn't teach anything. We'd have internal competitions and only the winners would go on to have special training while the rest of us are left to our own devices..... and people still wonder why our country seems to have a problem of finding successors to our legends.

    I've got a peculiar style of coaching: I ask questions until they answer with the right thing. It's really weird at first for them, but that helps me to know what are they thinking so that I don't say anything obvious for them. Also after a while they start to go through the process by themselves and they pretty much do the job for me, because a lot of questions comes back frequently. Sometimes I can chain 4 or 5 why in a row, I feel like an annoying child but it's so satisfying when you get to that moment where the light bulb turns on and they're like "Oh. Yeah you're right, that was dumb. I should have done -insert something smart here-"
