🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s Profile🥁
Born in October 2009. She started playing drums at the age of two,appearanced on live at the age of four, and formed the family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at the age of five. Released 1st CD at 6 years old while in kindergarten.
Not only drums but also songwriting, vocals and piano.
In 2018, she became the weekly champion at the youngest age of 8 in the section under the age of 18 in the global female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl". An application video that covered Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured in NBC, NPR, Rolling Stone magazine and Billboard in the US, and spread all over the world.
Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer from KISS, Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Hayley Williams from Paramore, Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Rage Against the Machine's drummer Brad Wilk, Jamiroquai's drummer Derrick McKenzie and others have praised her.
At the age of eight, she appearanced in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO"as the youngest ever and made a surprise appearance on the stage of Fall Out Boy in "Summer Sonic Tokyo". Their collaboration heaped up 20,000 audience.
Received an offer from Cyndi Lauper, played two songs as a guest drummer at the performance at Tokyo Orchard Hall on the last day of Cyndi Lauper’s Japan tour.
Also, she has been selected as a commercial for world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO. Filming was also done in Thailand and New York, and received a great response from all over the world.
She made two appearances in The Ellen DeGeneres Show in LA in January and May 2019 and was praised by Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters. Also, the first overseas live at the long-established live house "Whisky A Go Go" in Los Angeles was a great success.
In April 2019, she was selected as Newsweek Japan's "100 Japanese people respected by the world", the youngest in history.
At the age of eight, she made endorsement contract with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH,as the world's youngest,and also made endorsement contracts with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
At the Pearl booth of the world's largest musical instrument show "NAMM Show" held in Anaheim in 2020, she performed as the youngest female, only Japanese drummer.
The impact of "Yoyoka" continues to spread to the world.
Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and David Grohl.
Her dream is to travel around the world and have sessions with people all over the world. Her recently dream is to play at the Tokyo Olympics.

Personal touch fills at the end of the break down were just the right amount to be interesting and but not be weirdly out of place and distract from the enjoyment of the song.

You're technique, style and skill are all great, and on top of that you exude a joy and passion that are totally contagious. Yoyoka has quickly become one of my all time favorite drummers. Her playing brings me great joy.

It's true she's always joyous but Nenad is right, she really becomes so powerful and elevated when she's playing Grohl/Nirvana. Truly an amazing drummer. Period
@We call on your blessings She is a kid and her parents are musicians who pick the songs. Guessing she does not know. Her English is marginal (but better than my Japanese). A lot of songs I liked as a kid I had no idea what they meant but liked the groove or melody.
@Trumero It's 2020. We've got the internet. Anybody can look up the lyrics in any language. I'm sure she knows what the lyrics mean, unless she just didn't want to look. But even to most English-speakers they are kind of nonsensical in this song.

Who could think that Dave Grohl's drumming on "drain you' could possibly be improved upon? Yoyoka not only captures the frenetic energy of the original, but improvises without overemphasizing. Tim 'Herb' Alexander is the only other drummer that comes to mind capable of doing this with this level of fluidity. Yoyoka's refining the subtlety in her drumming that very few have ever mastered ... think Bill Bruford.
And she's doing all this with such unbridled joy. Remarkable.

That has to be one of the most difficult songs I've seen you do. Unusually beat patterns, different beat volumes, several drum rolls and build ups, and you killed it. That was amazing.

よよかちゃんのチャンネルで知らなかったロックの名曲を色々楽しませてもらっていますが段々凄みが増してきましたね。いつもオリジナルと聴き比べながらよよかちゃんのアレンジ部分を探しています。外国人のコメントでもアレンジの素晴らしさに感激している人が多いですね。レジェンド達の演奏のカバーを重ねることでその技術や感性まで吸収して成長を続けているのでしょう。譜面を見ないでこれだけの演奏が出来ることが早い成長につながっているのでしょう。ギターの神ジミヘンが譜面を見なかったのが有名ですが日本でも美空ひばりがやはり譜面を見なかったそうですね、作曲者と自分の解釈を重ねやすいのでしょうか。よよかちゃんの10年後は想像を絶する成長を遂げて自分のオリジナル曲と共に音楽史に残る存在になる事は間違いないと思っています。

I am not a drummer, but would be fair to say that Yoyaka has already reached the level of the great drummers?
For her age, this is beyond accurate. Failed some notes, not doing it flawlessly, but even for a basic song, the tempo and groove is strong on her. Already dominates basic double bass patterns, this could easily be one of the greatest female drummers projection.
When I was 10 yrs old I was playing....playing outside !!! She’s such a talent. Keep rocking!! Girl power!! 💕

Nirvana was also my favorite band when I was your age. Nevermind was actually the very first album I ever owned. I had my Mom buy it for me when I was only 8 years old. It's cool to see your taste in music is so good and so close to my own. I see that you like Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine as well. Two more of my favorites. Radiohead especially. You should really dig into their albums. They have a lot of great songs. You might also like the bands Tool and Deftones, if you haven't already heard of them. If you want some really cool songs to cover go with Tool. Danny Carey is an amazing drummer. I'd love to see you cover some of his stuff. Peace & Love from New York
