@@The_Cyberzwell i did too. i was born in 98, started playing spyro as a child before getting into the police, so nothing sad about it. Learned that copeland made the spyro soundtrack after i loved the police. Are people born in 1998 not allowed to love the police? Or are you just a fucking douchebag idiot?
He had a documentary video about Spyro in PlayStation Underground so I watched that video many times. Turns out my Dad was a Police fan and recognized him when I was watching it. Then I started listening to them too.
Funny how Stewart namedrops the Distorted Reality sample pack as having been the hot thing at the time, and coincidentally later commends the composer of Super Mario Bros for working with limitations. In 1998 that composer, Koji Kondo, was also heavily using the Distorted Reality sample pack in his soundtrack for Zelda Majora's Mask.
He has a very youthful charme for his age. The way he talks enthusiastically about his music projects and passion for drumming and making music is so inspiring.❤
I am glad that Mr. Copeland made the OST for Spyro the Dragon. It defintely made my childhood and even today I think about the soundtracks. There is more to it than just business. As you can tell from this Q&A and from the interview made back when the 1st game was released, that he was having fun while working. As stated "they are paying me for this" (In the interview from the 1st game) simply implies how much Copeland was deepend into this game with heart and soul, this is reflected by the (in my opinion) flawless soundtrack. I am glad that also his family was enjoying work from "dads music". He enriched us all with his dedication and musical professionalism. I have also heard rumors about a next Spyro game. Is it coincidence that Mr. Copeland published this video? I hope not! It would be a blessing for us for him to dedicate his motivation, ability and care for the franchise of Spyro once again! I wish you all a pleasant day!
Hey Stewart I hope you get to do that Spyro tour you said you'd like to do! Also thank you so much for your video game music contributions! I saw you in Manchester when you lit up the orchestra, hearing Toasty live made my entire life! If they make more games, I hope you're hired right away! 💜
Hi Stewart Copeland I'm your biggest fan about Spyro the Dragon soundtrack Playstation 1 & Spyro Enter the Dragonfly too. Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐 🥳 🎉🎉😊 👍 👍 👍 👍!!
And here come I, to make it complicated. Question 1: why were the unused/secret/bonus tracks in Spyro 1 forgotten and unreleased, then ignored in Reignited? Question 2: Why did the poor tracks have to be trimmed for Reignited? RIP all the beautiful fadeouts. Question 3. Could Ryan get proper credit for each track in Spyro 3?
Thanks so much for the great memories Stewart! I hope one day they will release all the games on vinyl! Video game vinyl is hot right now and would love to spin some of your Spyro works!
An absolute Legend. Thank you so much for doing this Stewart. The Spyro soundtrack is incredibly unique and created an atmosphere so outstanding and immersive. That resonated with me and my family since 1998 when the game came out.
Copeland made my childhood feel like there's always a way. That I'm not alone. Thanks sir!! If there's a 4th release I really hope he's composing the soundtrack too.
I love this, Stewart is a delight to listen to and that soundtrack is so much fun. Great energy, fantastic vibes, memorable and charming yet not overbearing. Perfect for a video game
Seems like everyone and their cousin was using Distorted Reality back in the day! And to be fair it's a legendary sample library. I didn't even know it was used on the Spyro soundtrack until now. 😄
I still listen to the music regularly from my itunes/phone. Just incredible music I always hold dear to me from my favorite childhood games. I didnt have much growing up, so I did many playthroughs, especially of spyro 2, as a kid.
your music is such an integral part of my childhood, when i compose music for my games now I try to emulate your fun and energetic attitude towards it!
Please make more music like spyro. The world needs more beauty in it, and your work on spyro is still the most beautiful music there is. I felt that way when I was 5, I feel that way today
The Spyro soundtrack is brilliant! I often listen to it when I’m working 😅 Jacques (Rain) is an absolute banger and my personal favourite! Well done Mr Copeland!
Insomniac is my favorite game developer, but I never really fully appreciated this collaboration since I didn't become a massive fan of both Insomniac and Stewart until after the Spyro years. I've always been hoping for another collaboration, or more video games composition from Stewart. Despite saying he wouldn't change a thing, I think a 2024 soundtrack from him would be far more impressive given that there are far fewer tech limitations these days. Something whimsical from him more akin to the recent Rayman or Tearaway soundtracks would be fantastic!
Your an awesome guy Steward and such a phenomenal drummer!! One of the best!! Also cool that you did that bit of drumming with Ginger Baker too! R.I.P. Mr.Ginger Baker one of the greatest in his era!!
I definitely discovered The Police through Spyro🤟🏻Some of my favorite music in video games ever. And I still remember a lot of the songs in my head😂😂😂You are a great influence sir! One of my first musical influences! 💚💚Much love!
OH so this explains why the full quality uploads from the Spyro OST have random things in the titles of songs like "Potato" and "Avocado". I wondered why they had random words in them, I thought it was some kind of enigmatic puzzle...
I just read "A Spy Amongst Friends," and was surprised. Did you know Kim Philby? Do you remember anything about him? What did your father say about him? You are one of my favorite drummers of all time. Thanks for your time.
Aw damn I missed this Q&A. As others have said I grew up with the Year of the Dragon OST long before I had heard Message in a Bottle in Guitar Hero 2. There's still not a lot of music like it. Dude is straight up a genius with a quick mind.
Artisans Homeworld is my most favorite song because of the use of bells/glockenspiel. I honestly play the game for the music. Also, great work on Highlander II
I haven’t seen it mentioned in the comments about his favorite tracks, so I decided to do that for y’all. Potato = Lofty Castle, Avocado = Dark Passage.
i think that way too about composition, the limitations of digital instruments can bring out some interesting results when arranging rather than playing a physical instrument
I can't remember where, but I heard someone say that among the tracks that were switched were the main theme of the original game, and the theme of Misty's Bog. Do you recall if that was the case? I ask because I found it confusing as to why they used an alternate rendition of Misty's Bog as the credits theme throughout the origin trilogy, and if this is what happened, then it would explain so much.
How did he even come to be the composer? I’ve been curious about that and can’t find an answer. Did he reach out to them? Did his manager? Or was he the one that was contacted? I’m so curious and to the how and why of it all because going from The Police to making the Spyro OST is a crazy leap to me.
That last answer explains the names of UNUSED tracks, such as, in Spyro 3 we had "Grape", and "Cherry". EDIT: Should new Spyro 4 come out, I legit hope they will get you onboard to make music for it. Spyro's soul will always lie within your compositions. Its totally irreplacable. 💜
My God Stewart. Sting could have used your help on his Rushing Water song. He had a great riff but the chorus is a mess!! In my head I hear you doing a xylophone in the back ground with his vocals and bass underneath. Instead we have the car crash of a chorus. ugh! That song could have been huge.

It's so nice to see that he seems to regard his work on Spyro so highly to this day.
I love the way he's just walking circles around his studio. Gotta get those steps in!
I knew him from this game before The Police. One of my fav soundtracks!

I just want to meet Stewart one day. One of my inspirations and seemingly a genuine nice guy
He's very kind. Spent a few minutes chatting with me right after the premiere of his opera The Invention of Morel.

Reminds me of Leonard Bernstein

He mentioned "Potato" first which is Lofty Castle theme, which happens to be my all time favorite as well
Mine too. So glad the Spyro album is back on Spotify, I'm waking up to Lofty Castle every day
I love you stewart
“I had an organ” like most of the soundtrack wasn’t OOZING WITH THAT DELICIOUS ORGAN!
A hammond organ*

A lot of current synth music uses Spectrasonics' Omnisphere, which I'm pretty sure still has a lot of the samples from Distorted Reality!

You could play silver hair version of Ted Danson if they make a biopic. Also thanks for all the music
Sadly, I have never played this. We were a Nintendo/Atari clan. But, my younger boy played as Spyro a lot in Skylanders.
