Great video I did one on this machine combined with the Boss HA-5 headphone amp with built in effects. It has the same metallic plastic silver Boss body and roland use to advertise the 2 together.
I bought one of these in 1996 when I needed something to take with a synth to a recording session (I didn't have a DAW at that time, and certainly was nowhere near owning a laptop or something) and it still works nicely. I have thought about sampling it and selling it on, but I quite enjoy the difference in programming - and the effect you get when you have an accent on the step after a cymbal or clap and it kind of pulses the volume of the decay up.
If you don't have the need and space to sell it, don't do it, even if you sample it, it is nice to have the original gear with you, at least I feel sometimes too attached to these machines.
First drum machine I owned then a Casio RZ-1. Be fun for nostalgia to play on one for a bit but can’t see using it to make music now. Mine was very noisy so unless you wanted that added samples would be best
Sometime in the mid 80s or maybe early 80s like 1984, 40 years ago don’t remind me😬 and so One of my older brothers worked at Roland and he brought one of these and lend it to me for a week or more something like that anyways it was strange but I had fun with it. It was a very first drum machine and I figured out how to play it and program it hey do you remember being a little bit bored and maybe a little disappointed because it wasn’t like the sounds? I heard on purple rain!😅
Love the part that you said you were disappointed because it didn't sound like purple rain, but what a great time for your brother to work at Roland. Thanks for sharing that story, it's great!
the drummer is our band hated my new DR100 when it came out SO much that we set up a drum-off between the two, just to humiliate my tiny new drum machine
Unfortunately today buying vintage equipment is very expensive. I got most of my synths a while ago when they were still affordable, and as you say, samples today are a great option if you don't want to have the actual machine.
Great review and demo, just subscribed a couple of days ago and enjoying your content!
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing to Nostalgic Explorer!

So few likes (at the moment) ??? That's incomprehensive. I give you 100s.
Thank you so much Gerald, it just came out so I hope it will get a few more later and thanks for watching!
@@NostalgicExplorer It certainly will!!!

Yes, there are many things out today that work better than this machine. This is indeed pure nostalgia. Cheers!
Now that you said this, prices are gonna skyrocket. Thanks for that. /s
good video!
I hope not, if not grab your while you can 😅
Great channel, love the videos
Thank you so much for the support 😊

Why doesn't this channel have more subscribers? The stuff you show is absolutely wonderful! 🙂
Thank you so much for the support and worth of mouth is always welcome!
It was my very first drum machine purchased new in 83 at the age of 15. The clap sold it for me as it sounded the same as the 808's
Probably the best sound on this machine. I like the hi-hat and cymbals too.
Great hats, how much is a 606 these days? The ultimate hat man... but this is close.
Yes, reallt good hi hats, the TR-606 price varies depending on the condition, but it can go between the 300 to 400 dlls.

The battle of the drummers.
Awesome!
It's the ONLY Affordable option?
Oh, wait, no, there are SoundMasters as well. But the DR-110 is often cheaper, and yes, WAY better.
Nice answer to my question. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for answering my question and for sharing these options!
Just get the samples. Very few vintage drum machines are worth the stupid amounts of money they command now anyway.
