I don't recall seeing Ford open up and have fun this much in any other interview. Conan is so good at getting people to relax and have fun.
this interview made me love Harrison Ford even more! #indyforever
This is right when he started seeing Calista Flockhart. So yeah, he was now sleeping with a cute, younger woman. He had reason to be more carefree ...
Seth Meyers did a rare late night interview with world-famous introvert Brandon Flowers from The Killers. He was outstanding at getting him to feel relaxed and open up in a way few interviewers have. It's a Late Night tradition. ❤️ But Conan is absolutely one of the best; it's why his podcast has been such a success.
hes drunk or high
Yep. Sometimes Harrison can be a crank
Harrison Ford has a reputation as a bad interview, but Conan knows the secret to interviewing him, which is that he doesn't give a crap about the "mythology" of his characters. Talk to him about his craft, flying, basically anything OTHER than Han Solo, and he's a lot of fun.
@Kev024 ur all over this comment section being incredibly toxic, why are you so worked up about him. you;d be bored too if people asked about one small part of your life over and over again 1000s of times.
Conan also seems to be one of the few interviewers who seems to recognize that Ford’s quiet gruffness comes out of Ford’s anxiety doing interviews-it’s a pretty clear defense mechanism. His show so often gives Ford some bit to do, something where Ford can play alongside Conan instead of just having to be extemporaneously talkative. The Ford interviews always feel like an example of how to be a great late night host, tailoring the approach of the interview to what will make the guest feel like he is in safe hands.
Suzanne, a "bad" interview, or difficult to interview? There's a difference.
@@Snarkeroid It's probably Harrison himself on a sock account trolling.
as always, problem lies with interviewers, not the interviewees. Interviewers come in with agendas. If they could just treat the meeting as casual conversation.
"Are you kidding? I love stupid. Why do you think I came here?"
WHAT A LEGEND
Conan always got the best interviews out of Harrison Ford, both look like they genuinely had a great time in interviews together
Yes, he's also good with Graham Norton (every actor is really)
Conan is the ONLY person Harrison will open up with and play along. You can see he genuinely feels friendship and kinship with Conan.
I'd say he's confused about being Conan O'Brien's friend
@@Mixboy2105 Haha, yes, Harrison says that himself.
He just did Conan's podcast and said he kept coming back because he actually liked him and his show.
@@Charlezard.Man that podcast episode was gold 😂
This is probably one of his best interview, this and whenever he was with Ryan Gosling
This clip is 20 years old today, and I remember being captivated by this interview the day it happened. Harrison Ford being this open with Conan is just wonderful, and is memorable all these years later. The most underrated late show of all time.
He's younger in this interview than Tom Cruise is now. Him talking about Raiders here is like Tom talking about Minority Report now. Ain't that weird?
@@spenser9908 Not really. Minority Report is older than both me and my daughter. It's an old movie now.
@@HOTD108_ You were born after Minority Report?
@@spenser9908 A lot of people were, that movie is 21 years old now. About 30% of people alive today are 21 or younger.
@@levipeterken4020 Parents today were born after Minority Report came out?
Conan is the BEST host. Harrison and Conan should do a remote together.
Harrison is a legend…. He totally saved it and turned it around when describing the clip
"I love stupid" 😂 sums up my life
I remember this interview because it was the first time I’d ever seen a celebrity make fun of the movie they were tasked with promoting. The second time was when Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were doing the rounds for the final Twilight movie. Great stuff if you can find it . . .
Conan is the ONLY host that I have seen, at least in my generation, that feels GENUINE. He doesn't fake laugh or just stare with no emotion at his guest. He is honestly just gifted at hosting. Also love that he went to Harvard and acts like my classmates at community College 😂😂
Craig Ferguson
No big deal he went to Harvard. It’s overrated as a university
Harrison Ford has accomplished more than 99% of us and still acts more humble than a local high school popular girl 😭😂
and honest, love when hes asked if hed like to do a sequel, he says how much lol
Ifk i have accomplished a lot, and perhaps more than playing make believe. Love Harrison obviously
@@pyrobison2002 like what
Under every Harrison Ford interview someone says this is the only interview they've seen him laugh/talk openly.
"Hollywood Homicide" came out less than a year after this interview - and while the movie isn't that great, Harrison has some truly hilarious moments in it. Seeing the normally stoic and serious Harrison dry-humping the one-way glass in an interrogation room remains a favorite scene of mine. Worth checking out if you've never seen it! Probably the funniest movie he's done to date, and certainly the closest he's gotten to anything resembling "slapstick."
"If i take my Ginko Biloba i might remember where i put my viagra" is one of the funniest lines ever
Anchorman 2, it was mostly a cameo and he mostly played the straight man in the scene, but it's a pretty funny scene
Six Days, Seven Nights better example
He can be really funny if he wants to.
the chemistry between Harrison and Conan is unbelievable!!!!
For decades, people have been calling Harrison grumpy. His conan interviews are the only ones where he seems relaxed and is having a good time- even to the point of being silly, unlike his entire career of being serious.
For years I mentioned this interview to anyone who talked about Harrison Ford and they never believed me that he made fun of the title of the movie he was promoting. "It's a stupid name!" is burned into my memory forever 😂
Why do they have to be Russian? Lol 😆
I went to see this "Canine Teen" movie when it came out, and it wasn't at all what I expected! It was about a submarine, not a dog.
Funniest part of this interview is when they both paused and looked down like, "Okay, we are f'ing around too much".😂🤣
Ford is so charismatic that he can be ridiculing his own movie and you're totally with him and then he's serious about it and you're totally with him.
People I think don't realize how much of a loving guy Harrison Ford is.
He's a sweet person underneath
This is probably THE BEST interaction they had on T.V
4:41 cured my depression
"I love stupid" is an underrated line.
And K-19 was enjoyable.
One of my all time favorite conan moments, Harrison Ford has always been awkward but when he randomly went on bashing his own movie... I loved that, Conan looked a bit nervous too, he wasn't expecting that, Harrison Ford has never really given a shit
The way Harrison acts on talk shows is the way I act when I'm stoned and i'm trying to hide the fact
He isn’t stoned he has a bit of anxiety rude comment
PLEASE GET HIM ON CONAN NEEDS A FRIEND
Done!
Wish granted and it was just as off the walls as this lol
Harrison is funny as hell, he’s a dry and witty bloke who would fit in exceedingly well in the UK humour wise.
There's a pic online of Ford, carrying his bag, agreeably taking a photo at a UK airport with some short, exceedingly normal chubby British bloke with red hair - a big smile on Ford's face - and you can tell in the pic that the bloke probably said he was a big fan without being a wanker about it, hence Ford being happy and at ease to chat and take the pic. That's a longwinded way of saying, you're not wrong.
@@anthonythorne8708 Thanks for sharing, which part of the UK did you grow up in!?
@@wasteofspace20 I'm an Aussie but have spent years hanging out with UK folk at pubs and backpackers down here and get the humour. Quite relaxed conversations, some shit stirring, dry, fairly self-effacing and a likeable bunch overall, knock on wood,.
@@anthonythorne8708 nice, makes complete sense! I really enjoyed watching the Rugby World Cup with your countrymen around Greenwich in the summer of 2007. I’ve only had the chance to visit Perth and thought it was fantastic but Melbourne’s cultural elements have always interested me, the people from there, especially Latrobe U I worked with are always very impressive and quite global. You Aussies are pretty damn good at being honest about politics too, I always had a good time with your lot, you guys recognize the hypocrisies in any reality or person much faster than a lot of other cultures. I’ll follow you if you don’t mind, cheers!
Conan was and will always be the best late night host
Conan can bring the silliest side of the most serious people, like Harrison Ford and Larry King
Definitely, Don Rickles also has that same effect on Larry King.
K-19 sounds like the title of a movie starring a 19 year old cop with a dog as a partner.😂
I totally thought the same thing until they were talking about it and I remembered the sub lol
I was an extra on K-19, ran into him between scenes. Had a quick chat. Chill guy.
The "why do you think I'm here?" "You have come to the right place!" moment was something special.
Love their chemistry.
Fun fact: Harrison Ford worked as a carpenter in Los Angeles before achieving fame in movies, mainly doing home remodeling work.
Yes. That birdhouse in Witness? He made that!
As old as my underwear
probably because he was a better carpenter than a restaurant waiter.... like the job the rest of hollywood does
Harrison Ford gives some of the best late-night interviews
K-19 is actually one of my favorite submarine movies... still remember how much it hurts me to see the radiation leak disaster as a child
If you like submarine movies, you should watch a German movie called "Das Boot" (The Boat). The best submarine movie ever made.
LOL But he is right
I too love stupid. Like most of the Conan bits with Brian McCann: absolute gold.
Show the interview where he couldn't stop touching the chair. "This is fantastic fabric." The one where the young starlet opened and seemed like her and him were.. hanging out before the interview. :)
One of Harrison’s best interview!
I wish Harrison had more chances to act like he does in the castle arrival scene in Indy 3.
Lol. I was waiting for this clip. Conan was talking about this when Joel McHale was on recently.
This isn’t the first time they posted this, you could’ve looked it up instead of waiting
@Kev024 You can find plenty of other interviews about Star Wars. Plus the original trilogy happened like 20 years ago from this interview so what is the point?
@Kev024 Episode 7 was not exactly a thing at the time this interview was made. So the only Han-related questions Conan could ask would have been from the original trilogy. Or did you think this was recorded last week?
@Kev024 This was in 2002, dum dum
@Kev024 you really thought this was a new interview? 🤦♂️ 😂
conan: let's take a look at this clip
ad: that's my cue🤗
I think that film, K-19 is Ford's most outstanding performance of his career.
Whoa what a tonal U-turn! Only Harri Ford can pull that off - not a peep out of the audience when he starts discussing the film. What a guy!
Who'd've thunk that Harrison Ford and Conan O'Brien would be such a dynamic duo... Harrison Ford's recent appearance on Conan's podcast was hilarious.
One of my favourite movies but even more so after hearing him say there are many amazing young actors in it so nice that he gave Recognition to them. You are an amazing actor Harrison and even more amazing human being
Hearing them talk about Harrison doing more comedy makes his comedic role in "Shrinking" even better. If you have Apple TV+, I highly recommend it!
K-19 was a good movie
Harrison FORD,and CHEVY chase,should do DODGE ball2❤😂
Harrison Ford is literally the best! ❤
This interview is gold.
I have been looking for this clip since it aired! All of these years, I’ve been trying to describe that silly thing with the flailing hands they do… but, it turns out that my memory had made up a lot. I had misremembered Harrison Ford doing that, but he was on his feet, and was doing it across the stage like Steve Martin “getting small”.
Oh, well… it’s still funny as hell, and I’m glad I finally found it! Thanks for uploading! 😎👍
Don't worry, it's even funnier that he does it as a sudden chair dance or something
Nobody remembers the Harrison Ford film "Cowboys & Aliens"
Yes I do. I had a friend who was an extra as an Indian.
I remember watching this live. It’s such a classic 😆
Conan just has a way to have fun with anyone
That being said why HASN'T Harrison Ford been in a Coen Brothers movie!?? That'd be AWESOME!! 😀
So disappointed the Farrelly Brothers didn't cast him in anything after this. I feel like we missed out on our chance for an all-out slapstick Harrison Ford comedy.
Lol, I remember my brother and I watched this live. We were cracking up the whole time.
I was shocked to see him in Anchor man 2 I thought he killed it. I laughed so hard when he turned into a werewolf lol
Norm MacDonald once said about Letterman: “on the Letterman show, there’s a joke. The audience are in on it, the home viewers are in on it, Dave is in on it. And the joke is YOU, the guest! Once I figured out that, I started having a lot of fun.”
Reflecting on that statement while watching this video, I think that THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY is the butt of Conan’s running joke. As a partial outsider, or at least formerly behind-the-scenes player, Conan fell naturally into parodying Entertainment, while also balancing a reverence for it.
What a brilliant clip this is!
Two individuals having fun
this is one of the greatest interviews ever seriously lol
7:15 damn Peter Sarsgaard looking like a baby!
I have nothing to compare him to. I IMDb'ed him and Widowmaker is the only thing I have seen him in.
*reads Indy 4 script
Harrison: 4:18
I love how tense the audience got when they didn't realize that Harrison was being sarcastic about the movie title, leaning into his desire to appear in goofy comedies. That was a hilariously precarious couple minutes 😂
He was being a little too honest lol
I knew he was going to fit in one more "bleahhhhhyayaya" before the end! LOL
K-19 was actually a great movie
I remember watching it in theatres with my dad and brother
I always get confused with K-19 and U-571 (also a great movie)
Harrison Ford enjoys wigging out with Conan.
Conan’s compilation of his pointing acting is still the best but I love that he takes absolutely nothing seriously
Notice how Harrison lights up when talking about being $tupid.
Craig Ferguson couldn't make Ford do stupid faces. So I have found a new respect for Conan. He really makes the guest feel comfortable.
Soon, this will end as well. The last one of his kind. Craig left us 6 years ago and the huge abyss left in late night will only grow bigger when Conan leaves us.
What Harrison doesn't mention is he had diarrhea and just couldn't handle the scene with that swordman 😂🤣
That's what I heard and so they decided to make the scene quick because of his terrible bowel issues.
these two should be in a comedy movie
This show was in 2002. Indiana Jones was scheduled for 2004, consider how long Harrison had to wait when they started in 2008. Lucas had waited so long and guess what, it was a horrible script. Crazier than fiction.
imagine how bad the script woulda been if they had soldiered on in 2004 and just gone with what they had then!
And again, indiana jones 5...
Tbh the alien plot was more realistic than the holy stuff they did before, the only problem with KOTCS was the execution. Too much CGI, overacted and Indy became a superhuman despite being the oldest he'd ever been.
Are we not gonna talk about how Mr. Ford pronounced the word “nuclear”? It was “nukeelar” 😆
I noticed that ... was wondering if he’s trying to pronounce it as a Russian would or did he really have problem pronouncing this word .. probably the former ..
At the time, George W Bush was president, and pronounced it nuke-u-ler, and I suspect it was still a common dialect variant among people.
6:04 "and i play... a russian submarine" oh? 👀
Ford is most DEFINITELY buzzed here. Slurs quite a few words. No wonder he was relaxed, and that coupled with Conan being the best at his job is what made this a good interview.
He’s the perfect level of buzzed for a Conan interview. He’s still coherent and witty, but just loose enough to have a lot of fun with it
How the hell has it been 21 years and the Coen Brothers STILL havent utilized Harrison Ford? Time is ticking....
Pretty sure he already stars in a slapstick comedy. It's called "FTC audio whenever he's flying."
Love you Harrison !!! 💓💓💓💓
Hope Harrison gets on Conan's podcast.
Lol he was just on it
@@devanworkman8745 Wow in a year, wishes do come true.🤣
I want to see this full sequence!
3:25 Instant replay
to be sharing a birthday with a hollywood star, i'm glad it is harrison ford. from solo to indy and everything else inbetween simply amazing, even k19, shame i can't find it to watch anywhere
"I love stupid" - Harrison Ford
Omg it's the savage pirate that stole my ship
I forgot how funny Harrison Ford is 😂
Seems like he had a shot or two beforehand 😂
Conan broke Harrison Ford.
In another world, Conan O'Brian and Harrison Ford would have starred in a Zucker Brothers comedy
I love the thought of the Coen brothers being a comedy duo. I suppose they are in a way… but you don’t often hear Fargo mentioned in the same breath as Dumb and Dumber. Dark comedy and satire are usually not equated with slapstick.
Despite the title, this is actually a pretty good movie. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow (who went on to win an Oscar for The Hurt Locker).
The story I heard about the Indiana Jones scene was that Harrison was having some "digestive issues" and couldn't stay on set long enough to shoot the scripted scene. So they went with him just shooting the guy.
That kind of movie would be just like a steve Martin film.
I remember when this movie came out. Wasn't really interested..... but then saw this interview.
Ok but honestly, I’d buy a ticket to watch Harrison Ford watch paint dry. He’s a freaking treasure 😂
Always loved Harrison Ford...but after watching this, I love him a little bit more!
K-19 brought to you by smokers of K-2... Still waiting for Harrison Ford in a Wayans Bros film lol
