    Thanks. One of the best pieces I heard on the issue. This is how an expert explains complex issues in an understandable manner! Why don't we see more knowledgeable and fair people like the prof here on the media?

      @@ihedelft It was very balanced which is great but there was one small mistake in that the roseires dam that Egypt is monitoring is in Sudan not Ethiopia they aren’t looking over any of our development projects

    Thank you Prof for the good information and your professional optimism. Benefit-sharing as David Gray suggested should be the governing principle to manage scarce water in the region. Greed will not serve anyone.

    An excellent analysis, with all historical, technical and economic justifications. In fact, I get a few more new information and convinced and optimistic in seeing this great dam at full capacity in 3 or 4 years ....

    Pieter: A wonderful summary of one of the most watched and important projects in progress globally. Congratulations on the depth of your knowledge as well as the very logical way you summarized this issues. As we all know, the eyes of the hydrological world are firmly focused on this effort. All we can hope for is that the filling proceeds as planned and that the Countries understand that water must be shared and benefit all riparian partners. Richard Meganck

    It's unfortuante the Egyptian Water Minster failed to understand the benefit sharing concept. Anyways, is building one mega dam better than four smaller dams? Thank you Prof 🙏

    "we will make Ethiopia great again" we are her child's, thank you very much for this great analysis, we never want to harm Egypt they are our brothers and sisters but we are looking to development we all Ethiopian people are watching the dam very carefully, 60% of Ethiopian population have not electric city our elder mothers are making food by firewood, they carry a lot of leafs and wood for source of power, Egypt doesn't care about that but we worry about Egyptians peoples really that's true we don't want they to be drought so we said many times we are looking for fair use only we are not blocking the river and also we are filling the dam in winter season so that will not affect the flow of water to Egypt, but Egypt is interfere in to Ethiopian politics to destroy Ethiopia like Libya, they are wasting so much dollars for that, even they don't care about dying peoples in Ethiopia, they are paying for ethnic protesters for disturb our internal peace and unity there is many evidences, so Jesus will pay for their bad did

    Just for background information: how much time (in years) is needed to fill the dam?

    • @ninjitsuscorpion5163
      @ninjitsuscorpion5163 4 роки тому +4

      It can be done in 2-3 years, but considering the downstream countries it will take 5-7 years.

    • @pietervanderzaag311
      @pietervanderzaag311 4 роки тому +5

      @@ninjitsuscorpion5163 This is indeed the range of time that is now considered (5-7 years), also by Ethiopia. The precise length will depend on whether there is sufficient rainfall and river discharge in the coming years.

    • @hebrondinberu2964

      We're told that it would start producing full power by 2023. 3 years. That's what I know.

    • @Churros1616
      @Churros1616 2 роки тому

      It could have been done in 2 years, but Ethiopia takes the downstream countries Sudan and Egypt in consideration. Besides they only fill it in winter when there is more rainfall. So it can generate power in 3 years, which means this year, since they already started in the winter of 2020, but it will take four to six years to fill up the reservoir to its maximum.

    There is enough water in the Blue Nile for everyone ! Does anyone care to report on the current water level in Aswan Dan ? Where on the internet is Aswan's live water level mentioned ?

      Thanks. Please try this site of the Technical University of Muenchen: dahiti.dgfi.tum.de/en/210/water-level/ Data are based on altimetry from satellites. Or try this one: ipad.fas.usda.gov/cropexplorer/global_reservoir/gr_regional_chart.aspx?regionid=metu&reservoir_name=Nasser
      Both sources confirm that the water level of Lake Nasser / Aswan High Dam is currently at a record height.

    Very balanced view but on correction is egypt is monitoring the roseires dam locates in Sudan not in Ethiopia we don’t want pseudocolonialist in our development project we ain’t stopping them from wasting water in toshka let along when they used the water in a relatively efficient matter

    What u said wasn't entirely true u need a deep dig research as nobody in Ethiopia was or is being forced to contribute and such as flaws I think ur judgments are rather sharp & reilastic + logical.

    Unless Egypt admit the reasonable and equitable utilization of Abay(Nile) River in positive assumption of Grand Ethiopian Rennasans Dam(GERD) it will case of Gastro Eseophagus Reflux Disease (GERD)for her(Egypt)

      ALL riparian countries of the Nile river were ALREADY working hard together IN AGREEMENT! But 2009 Egypt (with its then new water minister) suddenly disagreed and blocked the plan of benefits sharing, in order to remain in the position of having the vast majority of benefits only for the Egyptian population.
      Therefore, Egypt shouldn't wonder why all other riparian countries can not trust the Egyptian government. Instead, these countries had an agreement signed in 2011 on how to use the Nile river for mutual benefits. But again Egypt (and this time along with Sudan) refused to sign and left the Nile Basin Initiative...

      Ethiopia need not to get permission from Egypt to do what she want to do and she is not as fool as Uganda did asking to construct her dam. Do not asume and expect Ethiopia to ask permission Egypt to do what she want do, but Unless Egypt admit the reasonable and equitable utilization of Abay(Nile) River in positive assumption of Grand Ethiopian Rennasans Dam(GERD) it will case of Gastro Eseophagus Reflux Disease (GERD)for her(Egypt).

    it is Egypt's arrogance that led to this dilemma, if they contributed positively to the NBI, everything would be better for all, but their arrogance had paid off now, they wanted all. no one should have his share of it. so let them suffer

  • @Churros1616

    That’s a lie .. Ethiopia refuses to sign any binding legal agreement according to international law regarding the filling and operation of the dam which makes Ethiopia the owner of the nile thus giving it the power over Sudan and Egypt which a major regional power like Egypt will never accept.. simply ether Ethiopia signed a legal agreement with the downstream countries or inevitable war !!
