Great battle report and a really Fun game to watch ... PLEASE make a ton of these Civil war battle report's 🙏🙏👍 Many many thanks for showing and please keep up the good work
Great battle report! What makes it even better is that the 20th Maine was represented....and did a great job holding the line BTW, I live a stones throw from Joshua Chamberlain's Birth Home here in Brewer Maine and just visited his brother's grave (Thomas Chamberland) in Castine. I feel bad for Mikey, playing a dice game can be a real bummer, no matter how good your tactics are...the dice just wont cooperate. This was compounded by Jon consistently making successful saves throughout the scenario, but hey, that's how it goes sometimes, on the table and in real life. I've got the starter set otw and have a few people at the local game shop who are interested in starting an ACW group. I'll be using your video to showcase the games to others. Keep up the good work, this gets a thumbs up!
@@jamesyoung5597 You'll be excited to Know that Mikey and I are going hard on the project now. I currently have 7 regiments on my paint table 3/4 the way done. We're both nearing completion of the big starter box. We have plans to get even more. Some of these sceanrios have 30+ units per side! We may have to cut down the order phase to a recap in those larger games to keep it flowing. Thanks for the support as always :) - Jon
Oof I'm still finishing my 28mm Revolutionary War armies, but I am so tempted to get this starter set.. Grew up on the Civil War; books, movies, reenacting. Thanks for the battle report, keep 'em coming!
great battle report I like your style. I do believe the lateral movement of the unit behind the 20th Maine was illegal. If you are within shooting distance of an enemy you cannot make a lateral movement like that but we all make mistake when playing these games and its all for fun. I realize I am 2 years late on this but I am just starting so its new for me. I havnt even looked yet but I hope you have done many other battle reports like this one. Thanks for the video.
@@tri-starwargaming do yall play napoleonics as well? Though we play 28mm in that. Bolt Action, and a song of ice and fire are the ones most often played right now.

Not sure (might have missed it) if your artillery was limbered or not but for manhandled they are restricted to one move only per turn, so max 6". At least once you'd ordered a Union artillery unit to advance as far as it can. Maybe it's different for ACW?
Tremendous looking game. Im enjoying Black Powder. I find the game changes from turn by turn which I think is Tremendous. I'm currently playing the game in 28mm napoleonics. We are having an event next year in Epic which I'm building to but then would like to look into ACW. Appreciate your fully painted battle which I find looks absolutely splendid. Look forward to watch more. Looks like the game plays well on a standard 6 x 4 table which is great
Fun battle report. Thank you for putting it out there. I too am just learning the game, therefore have a few rules questions - 1) I thought you had to shoot at the closest unit unless that unit is obscured in some way. On a few occasions you shot past units. 2) Are you required to test when you are just shaken or only when you exceed the stamina level? Looked like you were testing when only taking three casualties rather than four. 3) In order to shoot over the heads of troops, don't your canons need to be on a hill or the enemy you are shooting at has to be on a hill? 4) Towards the end of the game you issued a rally order on a disordered unit. That question has come up a few times in the few games I have played. Can you rally a disordered unit as it requires an order? I would love to know you thoughts. Totally helps as we try to figure out this amazing game.
Can you timestamp these? 1)You are correct about shooting at the nearest target unless it's obscured. 2) yes, artillery has to be elevated or the target does. 3) "normal" break tests need to be taken when a unit has exceeded its stamina. Not when reaching it. 4) Rallying only works on units when they're not disordered. I don't remember these exact moments in the game. The rally would have def been a mistake probably from multitasking as well as the closest target mistake.
Units acquire casualty markers when they take casualties. You do not remove stands. In the Glory Hallelujah source book, there is a mechanic called "whipped" which basically states that instead of units being removed per the normal rules, they will retreat when they would be removed and only be fully removed from the table if they were to retreat off of the edge. - Jon
Each infantry regiment has 5 stands from the box but Jon and I decided not to build them at full size. In the game they have small(2), regular(3) and large(4)units with(*) being the units stamina. We match the amount of stands to that. Also, they come out of the box on plastic that matches their color so you don't have to paint🤷♂️-Mikey

When pointing out Gen. Jackson. Nice 3rd national Confederate flag or the red tip/blood flag as it was known due to the red end so as to differentiate it from a flag of truce/surrender, as the 2nd national was all white and if a wind was not blowing and so exposing the St Andrews cross and stars of the Confed battle flag it could and did get mistaken for a flag of surrender. I think it was Ft . Moultrie outside Charlston SC in 1963 the Federals went up to it thinking the 2nd national was a surrender flag due to this and almost got slaughtered when the defenses open up on them at about 300 yards range, and canister at that range was devastating.
