  • For those who can't be at Mary's funeral on the 5th August 2013, here is one of her favourite tunes, accompanied by pictures of Smirisary itself, and other places that she loved that are close to where we live.
From our very first trips here, Mary and I used to visit the largely abandoned and ruined village of Smirisary. We would sit happily on the rocks, listening to the surf ahead of us and the wind in the grasses behind us. We'd imagine the lives of the people who used to live there and gaze to the islands far out at sea.
If you visited us we probably took you there, too.
The tune will be played during a period of quiet reflection during the service. It was written by the piper Allan MacDonald and transcribed painstakingly from pipes to fiddle by Iain MacFarlane who is performing it here live in Glenuig with Blazin' Fiddles. Like us, Allan would often sit at Smirisary imagining the past, and was inspired to write this tune.
So listen, and watch, and remember dear Mary.
