Thank you so much after all these years I thought mine was broken because it would never hold a charge and the display was always turning off, but I couldnt bear to get rid of it because I have taken such good care of it (still looks brand new) and knew I wouldn't get any money for it. Now I can actually use it again! I watched the video and was skeptical that it would work, it just seemed so strange, but it did first try. Your audio is clear, the instructions are simple and straightforward. Thank you for your video. Shared it on my Facebook in case any of my friends still have a nano that they think is broken too.

I can't even switch mine off, I press deep sleep but the spirit of Steve Jobs just turns it right back on again.

Is your charger plugged in....mine was too until i unplugged it and did it
I had this problem too but I kept pushing the select button on deepsleep and it stayed off. Never mind, it automatically restarted a minute later. There must be some other setting.

You really do have to hit that rewind button quickly after the menu button. It took me several times to finally get it right.

On a 3rd Gen iPod Nano once I got to the Main Diagnostic Screen, with arrow sitting on Power, clicked to Sleep>Deep Sleep and then it completely shut down. Bravo Sir !!!!

Now that I actually know how to turn it off hopefully the battery will hold better and serve me better when I need to listen to this content. You can also hold down the select button and hold down play at the same time
+Alec King Thats how I have always done it too But I think that just temporary makes it sleep and DOES NOT reserve the battery.....

i just hold play then toggle the hold button that seems to turn it off
I just found my ipod bought years ago and hardly used. Hadn't a clue how to turn off or on. Thank you. My problem now is when I unplug charger it turns, off and it will only play music when headphones plugged in. Very frustrating.

Question: After doing this, can we just turn on the hold switch each time to power it off and then turn it on again to power it off? Or do we need to do this process every time? I ask because my daughter with Down Syndrome is using an old one and no way she is going to use this process every time to turn it off.

I had searched up if it’s needed to be turned off and people say it automatically saves battery life and goes to low power mode and not only that it also doesn’t ever get over charged. I’m curious is it necessary to turn it off like this every time?

Is there a hack available to change behavior and or menu (MP3 playback) of the iPod's. Why doesn't it go to deepsleep after 5 minutes of screen off doing nothing?
