Mastic is the main ingredient in things such as synthetic rubber and chewing gum.

Guys you don’t need to pay a fortune for that. Mastiha or mastic in English comes originally from island of Chios, Greece. We use that in raw form mainly in the food, and you can buy it fairly cheap. However, if you buy the pure version of it, it’s quite hard to chew it at the beginning but soften up slowly.
@@El_Goblino_ it can only thrive in Greece do research 😂😂😂 Mastic or Μαστίχα is greek and many have tried to cultivate it outside of Chios but to no avail..you can only taste the unique taste of Μαστίχα from Chios
Mastika is also a play on words, the way you pronounce "Mastika" (Mah-Stee-kah), in some languages is very similar to words that mean "Chew" or "To Chew", so not only is it playful because of the material used, but also because of the double entendre the world used has an actual meaning.
I use mastiha/mastic gum in two ways. I occasionally use it as an incense, but more frequently, I use it as a wood finish. I dissolve it in ethanol with copal and shellac flakes to make a basic varnish which I use in musical instruments and small wood items.
The word "Mastiknan" is the original Greek word for chewing. It's so cool to see how other countries say certain words. In Spanish we say "Masticar", and in English It's "Masticate". Thank you for sharing the Ethiopian way!!! I love languages!
Mastixa tree is the tree were mastic falls down to the ground from the damaged brunches of the tree.I live in an island called Chios in Greece were it is produced. The amazing part about these trees are that they produce mastic only in the southern island. That means that if a tree is grown in any other part of the world it wont be able to produce that mastic.Mastic can be used to produce several medicine and gums.I have a lot of experience myself as to how it is produced because a have helped my father since a very young age
In my country, we buy unprocessed, natural gum which look like small white rocks. It's healthier, but very chewy, and you have to add edible wax to it to make it softer. It almost never loses its flavour even after a whole day of chewing!
@@Cant_I_pee_in_peace Yes it is! I have heard that they add it because it can make soft drinks dissolve more sugar without getting oversaturated. Not 100% sure tho
Mastíha (μαστίχα) has been a staple of Chios for thousands of years. "Mastic Shop" goes way back, and they have a variety of mastic-based products, not just chewing gum (they sell pure chewing gum though, which is crystal and it's hard, not chewy). My favourite mastic chewing gum is Elma (Ελμα)
Mastication in English just means chewing, I think based off of some Latin root like masticare, which is why several languages have a word for chew that looks pretty similar to this. I guess the tree sap for chewing was literally just named "chew" lol
Mastic is greek The word mastic is derived from Greek: masticháein, 'to gnash the teeth',(chew) which is also the source of the English word masticate.

In relation to your factoid sharing, the gum is just some edible rubber that is relatively common.
