LANDSCAPE photography | Embracing UNPREDICTABLE Weather | Surreal SEASCAPES Amid CHANGING LIGHT

In this week's landscape photography episode, I take you to the dramatic rocky coast of Petrel Cove in South Australia. Originally planning to focus on the intricate textures and abstract patterns of the rocks, I found the light wasn't cooperating as I'd hoped. Instead of close-ups, I shifted my attention to capturing the grandeur of the entire vista. As the weather threw everything from dull light to sudden rain my way, I had to move quickly and adapt on the fly. Eventually, the conditions transformed, revealing a soft, ethereal glow that washed over the landscape, presenting an unexpected opportunity to craft truly unique images.
To make the most of these fleeting moments, I used focus stacking to bring the delicate movement of the water into sharp detail while blending the foreground and background seamlessly. With filters, I extended the shutter speed, transforming the scene into a surreal, dreamlike landscape where the ocean and sky seemed to merge. The result is a captivating interplay of textures and colours that goes beyond traditional coastal photography, showcasing the beauty that emerges when patience, agility, and creative technique come together.
