I was looking forward to this video all week. Despite everything, I'm sure the trip itself was extremely special. She was down and out in the desert and made it to the hill country from South Texas. Someone looking at it in the desert then would have never believed it. Can't wait to see it back and stronger.
I've owned a 1997 hilux for 25yrs it won't die. I found a 1983 hilux r18 petrol has been sitting in an old barn for 20yrs I'm going to buy it. The condition of the hilux is beutifull.
I admire your tenacity, with tunacan. Reminds me of our trip in a Daewoo Espero which was overheating and did the same thing pulling and waiting for it to cool down and then proceeding. luckily we made just into the town, Katima Mulilo and the car died for good.
I know it's obvious but, that must have another good running, descent condition and tested properly 22R Engine to retain it's original form. Rebuild it properly with good parts and reliable shops. Good show bro, heads up!
Knowing these trucks, their overheating issues most likely started with a bad water pump or a cracked/warped head. The water pump was the issue in my 1980. Luckily it didn't cause any other issues.
Dude put another 22r in the truck. Dont fool with all the adapting youll have to go thru with trans and driveshafts and all of that. 22r is a good motor. Get reputable work done and use factory gaskets. Youll retain the value of the truck as time goes on much better and it will keep the spirit of the truck true.
I’ve got a hilux single cab 93 with a engine conversion, we fitted a Ford Windsor V8 engine and we converted the transmission (a340 hilux automatic) from automatic to manual automatic! You guys should try to do the same, would be fun to see! Can’t wait for new videos
I have a chevy 350 in Brownsville with I believe is a 3 speed transmission supposedly the engine was slightly modified it has not been turn on in several years , if you guys are interested in it.
@@TheOnlyBlackInMeWasWillieBrown I guess you have no idea what an adventure is, but no need need to know, just go and do whatever you want, and have fun
Tuna can just wants to die but you guys dont let 😂😂 keep on driving her… this reminded me of the samurai adventure from Carrizo springs to 956 that was a slow 60mph trip but fun and funny as hell with my old man 😂😂
The truck rolling as you hop out to get something real quick at about 21 mins, i know it all too well in my 87 4runner hahaha. Putting my wooden ebrake takes too long sometimes haha
Motor Mart on Old 83. Ash Ave and N 11th St in Mcallen. I've taken heads and blocks there to resurface and they machine them down instead of putting them on a grinding wheel
Excellent video and I'm glad y'all made it back home. I was behind you leaving Oxford Ranch and thinking to myself "Dang that little truck runs pretty good" Could not tell you had engine troubles at all. Hopefully you have it running soon. PS: that was my Landcruiser in front of you at the light in Fredericksburg at 24:58 PSS : Please consider leading an overland trip to Mexico ( or include me next time you go :)
I tried walking to my car to travel a couple of hundred. Couldn't even make it to the front door. Seem to have broken my ankle. Don't recall how. Mongrel!
how bout adding a brand new engine and give the ol truck more love and life, dont give up. just curious, if the truck can survive once more with"minor tweeks and live a few more years without issues or breakdowns fix the truck as is and move forward, either way, cant wait for more videos, theres always hope,
More people need to do this! I road trip my 1999 Land Rover discovery and it’s actually very comfortable and reliable.
That truck is worth rebuilding completely. I would order a long block & let them put the head on with torq specs. and for warranty reasons.
Now that’s adventure!!! So calm and collected…. I’d be all stressed out …. Great job gents
Jacob kept me calm😂 “no pasa nada”…
This needs to be on a “Toyota let’s go places” commercial lol. Awesome content man! Y puro 956 alv cuh 🤟😂
Puro 956!!

Thanks for always supporting bro! A true miracle🥹
BEST truck ever.wish I still had mine .18r petrol

I like how you immediately disregarded his warning to use your blinker when you pulled back onto the road lol
Can't wait to see Tunacan back on the road!!
Keep the Tuna Can rolling brother,God bless you all.
Thanks brother🙏🏼
Such a sick find and build to be. Cant Wait!!!!
love to see another one with the repairs on it
Took my 1980 Pontiac Firebird on a road trip. Nothing like a simple solid V8.
Good job gentlemen. I did enjoy seeing my same age Toyota doing that far. It's a successful journey. Never say die. Love from Africa
I loved it! I can’t wait for the video of Tuna Can! Thanks
I remember I took a Datsun 620 on 2 cylinders and 35's from Boise Idaho to a town just north of Baker Oregon. Took about 7 hours
gotta put the tercel body on tuna can, make shift 4 runner!
BIG TUNA 🤙🏾 hang in there lil buddie

I know the guy with blue shirt and glasses with his son (he is my neighbor in mission), great video guys, i have 4 -4runner
I don’t understand English very much but I just enjoyed seeing you guys driving hilux
Don’t sell it, tuna-can must survive 🤘🏼
Nice truck brother , I'm trying to get my first gen back on the road as well lol
You guys are bad ass. I have a white 2005 Tacoma. Their great trucks
Tuna can, ❤ made it I love you Toyota ❤❤❤

Been waiting for a long video on this truck. Found you on IG, love the backstory. Please make more vlogs. We’re invested with you on tuna can!
Glad to hear thank you😁
put a 3.0 radiator in it, gut the thermostat if you not in cold weather have a extra water pump and blue devil pour n go with you!

i was just wondering if you thought of any rain, and a camper top just in case, as well being or stay dry.
I feel bad for the guy who actually got your ticket 😂 that dudes definitely got a warrant for his arrest.
It don't matter that it looks like a rolling pile of junk this beast will never die
It's not a pile of junk. It has potential. Remember that
Can’t wait for tuna can’s comeback! Greetings from EP Tx
Cool you took it to the Limit 😆
so jelous of you guys. Great video and great adventure.
Why they clearly have no idea what they are doing. They are begging for a motor which means they can't rebuild one.

Awesome, great ingenuity!! Reminds me of good times in my 84 dolphin, so did you end up fixing it?
If the viscous fan isnt performing, you can wrap a boot lace around the drive side and the free moving viscous part.. it would drive all the time..
man, that headunit is the most out of place thing i've ever seen 🤣

try some steel seal for that head gasket stuff works great
Needs an ALH swap! Awesome video
Duncan boi!

Intake manifold gasket is common for loosing coolant on these.
Good job 👍🏽
Great old truck. Another 22r.
I Subscribed as soon as you mentioned you guys were from Edinburgh, Tx! #956 That Yota is Tough! Saludos from Pharr
Question. How did you keep all of your accessories charged? (ipad, cellphones, etc)
Anker 2000w power station
32:10 damn the low compression.

Unless you're going diesel, I would swap it with a Toyota engine. LC Engineering makes new 22r and 22re engines.
I tried walking to my car to travel a couple of hundred.
Couldn't even make it to the front door.
Seem to have broken my ankle.
Don't recall how.
Mongrel!
Awesome vid
Where can I get one of those walkie talkie holders?
I just drove my 83 toyota 4x4 18 hrs one way only stopping for gas , then back home another 18hrs!
Nice!!
Toyota simply the best

Love the vid.
I liked the alu cab
This video had me all stressed out 😂
4AGE Garage YT channel, has the exact same car but swapped a boosted 4AGE in it! He drives off road! He also does mod comparisons with the dyno.
Don't know who has more heart Jacob or Tunacan?
Great adventure! Thanks for sharing.
Keep it Toyota. Try get a 5L Diesel 3.0L (2,985 cc) . With regular service they last 350-500k easily.
What size tires and rims do you have on tuna can?
How do you have that tablet mounted? Id like to hard mount one in my 80s yota.
It’s a stereo from Amazon with custom made brackets using stock holes for the screws on the dash
You guys in san antonio tx?
You can still find good machine shops in mexico.
"Another Mexican"😂😂😂😂
In Africa they runs these Toyota trucks that’ll make this look like BRAND NEW
Probably still more reliable than a new American made
OK machine shop. El paso, they do all my personal and shop work.
My suggestion is put a new 22re into it i have a 1990 one with one of those motor it never dies
Good video
When Tuna reaches the end of its lifespan with you, pass it on to me for a couple 100,000 more miles with me
Good yob gang !
Wow😮
was a good video new subscriber here
bro hmu. i know a some good people that work on Toyotas here in Weslaco. would also like some pointers for my 90 toyo pickup
definitely a cummins R2.4 but please dont put a pos chevy
Definitely have to consider a Toyota v8 swap for sure, my vote is 2uz-Fe if you can fit it
Those are junk motors and the problem with a v8 swap in these trucks are cooling them.
@@TheOnlyBlackInMeWasWillieBrown what? How are they junk?
where in central texas is that
Llano, TX
its 20r engine or 22?
I Was trip with toyota kijang 1992, 1500 CC, 4 Cyclinder, Gasoline with 1200 Km, Its Ok.❤❤❤
Just needs a clear-coat
Do a youtube short that tuna can died and then ask for motors!
Great idea!!
@@OverlandNomad might be able to find a diesel from an old usps delivery car.
If you can't keep a 22R running,I don't know
We’re honestly dumb
Water is evaporated
Need antifreeze
Hermosa toyota
Put the 1KZ-T 3.0 turbo diesel from the Hilux overseas
Let me know if you sell him! 😅
consider om606
Put in a 3uz lexus v8
Blue Devil
