Awesome!!
Oooooo
i win .haha... hoping david. ..😊
Fingers crossed
To paraphrase a commercial from the 1970's, "They can put a man on the moon, they can send rockets to Mars! Why can't they make an IT that is a strong as sewing thread?!!!" I'll bet if there was a military application for IT, the gov't could develop an IT that could suspend the Brooklyn Bridge.
🤣
I ordered invisible thread once, but when I opened the box, it was empty.
ha ha ha ha
God what a scam😂
Magic
I used to do the floating cigarette and that one effect got me so much work and reputation ! It’s good to use the ITR as a filler like making the silk float before you go into the TT routine !
Totally agree!
One of your very BEST reviews David. I wish I would have seen this before I bought my first IT reel . I'm now in the group that doesn't hate IT but definitely will stay in the bottom drawer.
yea, I feel ya
Nice video. For more then 20 years I use the same thing, and that's loops. I make my own and Keep them in my FPS wallet together with Extreme burn. Mainly do just 3 things with them: Floating bill, the thing with the sunglasses, and the trick with the card from the deck ( a variation). I could loan a few real systems and I hate them. Loop are great, set up is easy, if you start with invisible threat , starting with loops will be a good way to go, in my opinion.
great advice
I completely agree. I have not found one magician who does not have a strong opinion on IT. I love it because it challenges me. I bought the Tarantula before having any experience with IT and it was a disaster. I bought a couple more spools of spider thread and had some more success with it after practicing with loose. I got Trickmaster’s The Ultimate Levitation System and practiced religiously. As for thread itself, I buy Gutermann Bulky Nylon and strip it. It’s cheap enough that you won’t feel guilty breaking or tangling thread (believe me, this will be the norm until you’re well-practiced). Loops are also great, but they can break easily. The tricks are amazing but never easy.
great comment !!!
One thing about Kevlar. It appears thicker than other ITs, but I heard once that it's invisibility in florescent light was excellent. I had an ITR with Kevlar, and tried it out at my office, which is lit completely with florescent light. The person I heard it from was right.
wow thanks for the comment
Who's afraid of invisible thread ! I've got roughly more than twenty or so videos on levitation and several books as well, and you are spot on in my opinion of Johns work and tutelage with IT. I've bought several retraction systems,, loops ( which I do like very much) that break often or fly to never never land, but Johms instruction of how to make and how to use invisible thread is so straightforward, honest, informative, and without narcissistic over tones, that one would wonder if he had lived thirty five hundred years ago and invented magic or was good friends with DEEDEE who plucked a head off of a chicken. However, the reel allows us to back away. Then we return and the bill slides up( floats up) to our hand from an impossible distance. Also the Zombie ball may be of good use ? All of which is stage presentation, while most of us are attempting to fool our friends, playing for small tables, walking around a banquette hall, or table hopping, so the best real practical IT usage comes from John.
I like how you rolled your eyes back when you said “expensive reels” lol
LOL
IT is how I got into magic. I was walking through a Vegas hotel and one of the demos in the Houdini Shop was an IT Effect. Blew my mind.
ha ha - they sell HOVER CARD everywhere - even Disneyland
@magicorthodoxy Is the Hover Card the one that you toss it around your body?
@@tbobbyelectric yeah
You forgot to include Steve Fearson. The floating ring/mint would not be possible without his floating cigarette hookup. He also has great quality threads and a teaching video.
great recommendation !!
Really great video, IT is tricky to work with and your advice is excellent. Fearson's vectra is worth mentioning as it's the strongest I've come across. Love my spider pen pro, but totally agree with you that having a kevlar iboss as backup is necessary as these things fail more often than you'd like!
:D
I have this Kevlar Boss. I think it is great. It WILL break. This reel is easily fixed. Loops is my favourite IT effect. I have made loops myself with IT but it's a pain in the neck to do. Thanks for this review.
Thanks Rob!
My experience is with Loops which I enjoy. It is tricky though.
Thanks for this video. Never researched reels as I thought they were all really expensive. I’ll probably try this one.
I used to have loops - used them for rising card tricks
If you have the patience to fix them but I end up just buying g another when it breaks.
magicorthodoxy - haunted deck
LOL Im a professional in the indifferent zone. I love the effects but, you can be amazing without it. I throw it on know if it breaks I'm not gonna bother to reset it till after a show. It can be a pain, as lighting is really important.
quick tips
Light moves in a straight line, make sure the line is parallel not perpendicular to it. Fabric patterns hide, solid colors can reveal it. If you are at a hotel banquet hall, that crappy weird carpet hides it. If you where a shirt with a pattern such as "gingham" while hide it extremely well (lighting almost doesn't matter). If you are outside and its overcast that is the perfect day for IT. Low light is not necessarily good light-- its light direction
Different threads are more/less reflective. Kevlar is super refective, wooly nylon not so much (its too bad no one makes this in thread boss version anymore) and loops of IET is extremely invisible.
I wish someone told me this stuff when I was learning.
Great tips
I purchased some pre tied "rings," and enjoyed them but I burnt through them fairly fast just learning how it works and figitting with them.
The reel and spools are the way to go if this is your thing. It is fun!
Were they the loops?
@@magicorthodoxy yep. That's them.
IT can result in some good effects but, generally, I’ve found the set up to be too restrictive on the rest of my presentation.
Keep up the thorough and unbiased reviews.
Thank you. One of your best reviews ever!
There is nothing special about alleged Kevlar ITRs. They break just as easily as common ITR reels. Standard ITRs are far more resilient. The so-called extra strength that Kevlar reels have is really not worth the extra price.
I think you may be right
@@magicorthodoxy If anything, I've found that the standard ITR reel's thread is a bit more flexible and forgiving, whereas the Kevlar seems a bit stiffer and more brittle. I am NOT a fan of repairing reels, and prefer ones that are going to last a long time, before one day needing to be replaced. My rule of thumb for ITR reels is that if you can feel the weight of what you're levitating, you're on your way to the thread snapping. If your load feels virtually weightless, you're OK. For certain applications, and under certain prepared lighting conditions, you can even use a badge reel for super heavy objects. I have a video on my channel called "Mooned" where I have an LED lit-up replica Moon levitating, and I'm using a badge reel, under limited lighting conditions, and you absolutely can't see the black cord. Just thought I'd mention that.
Thanks for the great review David! I am new with using IT. I recently bought the Locking ITR by Sorcery Mfg. The thread keeps breaking. I don't know whether its Kevlar or Vectra. In one place on the DVD it says kevlar. On the large instruction sheet, it says vectra. So don't really know. I have been reading that Fearson's vectra is the strongest and best. What do you know? Should I invest in vectra original? This ITR is also difficult to lock and unlock under a jacket. Should I invest in the Venom? Any advice would be appreciated.
I've always stayed away from reels and thread. Might have to try that $15 dollar one and give it some practice.
I normally hate I.T.
Dude this video was great I've always wanted to know what these reels do with invisible thread
:)
I just bought a new reel because I'm coming back to magic and the one i had no longer works, and was pretty disappointed with the instructions that came with it came across your vid after a quick google search looking for instructions thanks for the book/ vid recs.
Sorry to hear that
Great video David! This opinion videos are filled to the brim with info
I try
Wow I wish you had done this before I bought tarantula 2. I like working with i.t. but I definitely need practice👍🏻👍🏻another good review thank you David 🤙
THANKS !!!!
Taruntualu and these can routine well together
Really great video! A very useful and complete guide for people new to invisible threads
Thanks for making this
:D
Great review. Only used loops & who's afraid of it which are both great. Will invest in a cheap reel now to see how I get on
:D
I shld start to explore IT. I have never ever used it cos i thought it was too risky.
Thanks for this review David.
:D
Which is the best ITR to buy because I am so confused which one to buy;
1.Venom
2.Tarantuala
3.Vectra cobra
4.Scorpion
5.Kevlar
Tarantula IMO
I have a spider pen pro and a tarantula, I've used the tarantula twice in a real life performance and I've never used the spider pen pro in a real life performance, although the tricks look amazing ( like real magic) I feel there's too much that won't go my way ( especially with the spider pen pro) so I ended up using loops as my go to and always have one on me
I've owned both of those
Very good advice and yes I have a cheap £3.99 version I got from Wish which lasted about 2 days but it gave me a chance to see if IT would work for me. Top video :)
:D
@@magicorthodoxy but thanks to a friend, I was able to take apart and fix. Also its worth taking apart so you can smooth the hole with a file to prevent it cutting the IT.
Thanks david! ive only had loops and Ive been looking at tarantula for a while. I might pick this up!
Hockstoon tarantula is a great street opener, (mint effect)
I got my first sorcery shop ITR in the 90's when they were 4 or 5 inches long with safety pins to pin it inside your shirt. The thread boss was a 1000% upgrade. I had the vhs tapes from sorcery shop too. wooof
I remember those !!!
Hey David, great review. Everywhere I check the kevlar I Boss is sold out or discontinued.
Penguin?
My only experience with invisible thread is the "floating match stick" trick that came in a bundle order from Amazon with my Memento Mori cards. Fun little thing, confused the hell out of our roommate. Easy to break though.
oh yea, I made one of those after I found out how it worked
As always a great review from you. I myself own venom and have the ups and downs of it as well. But venom is my reel
Awesome
Smae
Thank you... I've blown a lot of money on reels... have a few of the I bosses is the best way to go. That and loops. Love loops.
Yes loops are awesome
No matter how good you are Sooner or later. the thread is going to break. I have tried reels and one trick called Wonderbar. It looks great but I just do not have the patience for IT anymore. To those that do it, good luck. Your right. Just see if it is for you.
Thanks for sharing
Hello. I just discovered your channel when searching for invisible thread. I have a question. I am not a magician. I want to get kevlar invisible thread to hang a crystal star Christmas tree ornament from the ceiling down over the tip of my Christmas tree. It could be a really cool illusion. Would the kevlar invisible thread be able to hold up 1/4 pound? What do you think of this idea? Thanks.
Probably not, you're better off with fishing line
Today if someone films you with their phone the flash can expose a part of the thread
Yeah that's always been a problem with cameras. Obviously it's a bigger issue now since EVERYONE has one, but there are ways to get around it, at least somewhat. The simplest being to make sure your shirt is the same color as the thread you are using.
Hey David, what do you think about about joao muranda’s Astonishing bottle? I like this effect but I have heard that the gimmick’s a bit fragile. Could you please do a review of Astonishing bottle?
I've heard that the Method is great. But unfortunately after a few uses the materials begin to break apart or that it hasn't been built as well as it could be - sad
The old stuff doesn't go out of style, but it does go out of print! Can't find Michael Ammar's volume 1 anywhere.
I have both the large and small version of the ITR, I had great fun playing with them. The ideas/uses, though, are hard for me to come by. Also, I haven't used my ITR's for many years. I just looked at mine and they still work but the elastic is yellow and likely to break any time. I never managed to find a replacement elastic. Do you know where to get those? I haven't looked at any magic sites for many years.
penguin magic has a live Q and A box in the corner you can ask them questions during business hours
I brought most and must admit for strength etc I love venom
I bought one of these and never got the paper.... do you think you could send me a picture of the manual?. The thread already came off the wax and i don't know how to take it apart
What are your thoughts on Occultatum by Menny Lindenfeld. My birthday is on Thursday, and I have been thinking about this product for a while. Great video as well...as always!!!
So I think there are just better effects. It's not as strong as many other tricks for the same amount of money
Tim Röttger what would you recommend for a similar priced mentalism effect that is powerful yet practical
When Mic hael Ammar was on Carson he planned to do his floating bill but the it broke. He was ready for that situation and went right into his mismade bill. So yes, magician's at all levels struggle with IT
This was an amazing review 👍
thx
This is just so helpful! Thanks so much!
Ive been thinking about doing dome thread work. Ive only focused on cards and money for magic. I was debating over venom or tarantula 2,but ill start with the i boss first thanks
:D
That is a great review, thx for this.
Outstanding vid
Excellent advice.
THANKS !!!!
I need your help David
A week ago one of a street magician figured out my friends mobile phone pin number.
Can you tell me a magic trick that teaches this I would love to buy it and learn it
I am asking you cuz you know almost every trick :)
Please Reply....Thanks
There are many methods, look at Peter Turners work
@@magicorthodoxy Thankyou so much i guess the experience by Peter turner would be best buy !
Been curious about IT...
IT can be fun
Nice review, did you say $15.00🤯
Thanks for putting this information here.👍👍

It would have been extremely helpful if you had included the names of the individual products you mentioned, in the dropdown. Yes, most of these can be found at Penguin Magic, (as well as most other dealers). But, having the specific product names makes hunting them down SO much easier.
Cool Review
thx
very nice david thnx
:D
How much weight can a thread hold before breaking.
each type of thread varies in strength ... but again .. only float light objects
Thanks, I have a special magic trick I would like to develop, do you have experience how much one thread may hold?
I use IT only on social media not for a Live stage as its non dependable
yup
Ps and yes start cheap , I love working with it but you might hate it
will this kevlar boss IT carry 90g?
Could you recommend any English website that would sell the I boss?
it's discontinued
Ok thanks 🙏
Do you know any other thread reels for a similar price?
@@cjkillz1855 if you are still looking.. you can find stuff on ebay
What brand is the strongest IT?
I prefer Kevlar and Spider thread. However, others prefer the elastic thread, which is used for loops.
Couldn't agree with you more even with a real it's too much set up, so much can go wrong and has I've had it break on me so many times I've decided it's not even worth it.
Thanks for watching !!!
comments on Steve Fearson's work?
yes, please - make a comment - Steve is great
5 minutes into this video and I have anxiety... 😕
sleight of thread is more fun than the deluded click and reel
Actually... if there is no Flux Anti Gravity Compensator included, there is no need to invest more then 15 Bucks (in which currency you can imagine) in the first place.... But maybe I'm just oldschool...
Mine has a flux capacitor
In wich video is the scene from 11:30?
Oh, I'd love to win something from you. Love your reviews!
I love venom, because its Very silent.
awesome
Ahhhhh!!!! Let me winnnnn
Do you know any other thread reels with a similar price?
Use the search feature at your favorite online magic dealer - or ask their customer support
Spider Pen Pro
Venom
Invisible
All good
I might start using my IT again been a whole haha
I love the venom hook up but I think the real itself is overpriced. You could do the cool venom tricks with the kind of cheap real you show. On the other hand, I HATE loops with a passion. Making them is frustrating, feeling them break in the middle of a trick is horrible, they are expensive... I hate those...
LOL
I use the magic makers reels for the venom hookups
Buyer beware: cheap, garbage reels are EVERYWHERE in today's market, which has changed dramatically in the past few years FOR THE WORSE.
Knockoffs are everywhere, and Sorcery Manufacturing does not make their own products anymore, so even they, the real deal, aren't as good as they used to be...
😊👍
Dose anybody know where to get this awesome thing
these will work www.penguinmagic.com/p/17608
15 dollars? I always got this on ali express for $1.50 usd.
Yea mine wasn't used LOL
thank you for this review. IT isn't for me. i prefer Bat\Raven type gimmicks for any kind of PK work. but this is valuable information for others.
Glad it was helpful!
Not maney it reviews out there thank you can you refer me to a video that exsplain lighting for it,or loops, ect please .
fpv avitar I could be wrong but ask penguin magic. There's a section in one of their Penguin magic monthly magazines (September 2018) Dan Harlan talks about it, I think.
My advice would be doing things in the air and having a busy background in the line of sight of the thread. As for things like the haunted deck, same principal (like granite like floors). Using shadows to 'push' things are a good form of misdirection in lighter situations (if you're feeling ballsy).
fpv avitar I HOPE you see this because I've scoured through my magic stuff and these comments to help YOU. CORRECTION Dan Harlan talks about it in Penguin Magic Monthly (JUNE 2016) it's how to use IT in several lighting's and shows how it compares to different designs. Unfortunately it's not a video. It's 2-3 pages of reading. If you don't buy it, I'll give you the short version. He still tells you be mindful of the certain amount distance in order for IT to not be visible and it's also the busy backgrounds you experiment with as I've mentioned before. Good luck!!!
Layman dont should know whats is a ITR
you're right
