Man... idk if I would have cut up the huge saw blade. But this is really cool. I'd make a sheath that holds the extra parts. Pretty cool
not to mention the interior of sawblades are often made of softer metal that will not hold an edge. Only the teeth are hardened....normally.

Sehr cool. Vielleicht eine kleine Anregung für Version 2.0. Das Schaufenblatt so bohren das man es alternativ auch an den Stiel schrauben kann. Dann könnte man das System auch richtig zum schaufeln nutzen.

Maybe you don't know but I've been kicking around this idea I need to bounce off of somebody. I happen to have a lot of these large circular saw blades with the removable carbide teeth. These are old enough that the carbide is crazy thick and high quality. There's a specialized tool that locks them into position with no fasteners. My sawmill has been permanently converted to a band saw mill so these circular blades are surplus to me. I keep thinking about cutting out a straight section of one of these blades with the carbide tooth in mind. Presumably it would take a little bit of trial and error to find the ideal angle, but my idea is to make it cut off tool or grooving tool for use on the lathe. If you look very closely at these carbide teeth, they are very smooth with no chip breakers or anything, but they are widest at the tip and have clearance the full length. Because they are twice the thickness of traditional inserts and arguably six times the length and Mass, I theorize they might be useful as a cut-off tool for rather large work, that requires a lot of stick out. But I cannot decide if the properties of the blade itself lend themself to avoiding chatter or not? The interface with the carbide is simple enough that I could easily replicate it in HSS, but the circular saw blades are certainly high quality steel and obviously it would save me a great deal of time and effort. I've already taken measurements and it looks like very minimal sanding will allow it to fit in a standard aloris tool holder for cut off blades. Can I ask for your overall thoughts? I think you know a lot more about metallurgy than I do, do you think it would be wise to temper the steel? Any tips or thoughts are quite welcome, maybe you have a different idea altogether?
great idea ....a bit more weight on the hatchet end ,would definitly take hunting it would be light and usefull on the game and making a camp .i hate packing a folding saw and an axe

This would be awesome if it weren't for the lack of mechanical retention on the handle. Any bladesmith in the world will tell you they'd take mechanical bonding for the handle over chemical a million times. Glues have existed for centuries, and there is a reason why even today any bladesmith put pins through their handles. Please be safe and put pins on yours before it splits down the middle or even worse breaks in your hand while splitting a log or digging a hole and the scales go through your flesh.
Yes and no, it's unlikely this axe will see the sort of force to necessitate that. Should he have added pins? Probably, but not the end of the world.
