@@SpectralEvolver Never used. I working with a hardware granular synth called GR-1 Granular Synthesizer. Very easy to operate. But I have my eyes at Kyma for years to get at some point.

Hi, these are very helpful for a beginner like me! That said, I hit a snag I’m hoping you might be able to help me with. I’m using the very latest version of Kyma 7. You found and used a “Replicator for multitouch pen control” prototype but I don’t have that anywhere I can find - it’s not in the prototype strip and I also searched all through the whole Kyma 7 folder - no go. Closest I have is a prototype “Replicator for Pen multitouch polyphony (using _?VoiceNumber suffix)” and I tried to use that but it is differently constructed Sound with less objects - I tried dragging the Multisample Sound into it (both replacing and adding in a mixer) but couldn’t seem to get there. Any help appreciated!
Hi Scott, I sent you an email. That prototype will work, but it's hard to say exactly where the hang-up is without seeing the signal flow graph and parameter fields. I'm sure it's just a bit of code that needs adjusting.
Very cool. I'm just starting to look into Kyma, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the techniques in this video as I've actually been using a similar approach in Ableton using the Ableton Sampler and Max for Live Devices to randomize samples (via midi) and modulate parameters on the sampler either while playing by hand or just recording multiple passes to see what comes out each time. Then, of course, I can chop those recordings into new samples. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
That's excellent! When you say 'while playing by hand' what device are you using? MIDI keyboard? And I think you're right on with making multiple passes and chopping/reusing the most desirable parts; that's what I would have done here if I pursued it further.

I've been using the Sensel Morph, but that's just meant standard midi for me until very recently because Live JUST became MPE compatible within the last week or so. Now I'm planning to begin mapping MPE controls to my patches in addition to the max modulation devices I've used so far. Up to this point I've only processed eurorack sessions in this manner but need to start going through my field recording files as well.

Could you please explain a bit more about that "evaluate" function? Is it something one could ask Kyma to test newly typed capitalk or smalltalk algorithms without actually compiling and running them ? Or what is exactly it for?
Hi there! It's a convenient way to evaluate expressions directly in the parameter field as well as other places. Say you wanted to know what 100 hz is in nn. You could type 100 hz nn and evaluate it. You can do arithmetic, concatenate units as in the previous example, etc. Perhaps a couple of useful ways to think about it are understanding the expression deeper, or getting the result of the expression for use elsewhere. this was super cool, looking forward to trying this. i'm brand new to this type of audio environment, only ever used a DAW. to a newcomer, how would you explain your choice in using Kyma versus other languages like MaxMSP or Pure Data? i'm trying to pick a place to start.
Hello and thanks for the note. Good question. I guess I was lucky because I was lent a Kyma system to get started all those years ago. I never even new about other sound design language options; everything was new to me. I've stayed with it because it's elegant, sounds amazing, is all about the sound and is backed by lovely people among other things like being very stable for performances. I use Max a bit as well but it's just for connecting things; I don't consider it a serious sound environment, but that's just me. Pure Data I've never used so I couldn't comment on. Csound is another language that is amazing (and it's free) but unless computer programming is your calling it will be very, very tough. At the end of the day, I just want to generate and perform interesting, emotional sounds and I've found that to be most accessible and rewarding in Kyma. Hope that helps in some way-
This is great, it would be cool to demonstrate what X and Y movements on the ipad do by starting with just one finger (one sample) down but it is very useful even just like this. I see you mention the SumOfSines book. I went looking for it and found out it is from 2012. Do you think it is still relevant to the current version of Kyma? (I already have the other two books you mention)
Yes, I think it is still relevant and I can recommend it. If you like my tutorials I think you will also like that book. A lot of what I share either came directly from it or was inspired by it. Dr. Stolet, who I know personally, is an excellent teacher. SumOfSines is simply the most straightforward, pragmatic book on Kyma. If you're just getting started, or you want an emphasis on live performance, you will especially benefit from it.
Hey buddy sorry to be a pain in the butt but im just running some samples through some modules in kyma and when i add a record to disk module to the chain the previous modules in the chain disappear they are still there but they aren’t visible what do i do to make them visible again ?
Hello, it's hard to say without seeing the whole flow, but if you are just trying to record, you could use the 'record to disk' option under the 'action' menu instead. Like this: ua-cam.com/video/PWV_g4QYteE/v-deo.html

Command ‘a’ to select all and then command ‘y’ to evaluate. You can also control click on the disk icon.

I don't have Kyma open at the moment, but if you follow my code exactly in the parameter fields you can use the 'replicator' prototype.
