(my mom made a similar cake,in a loaf pan and dolloped topping as as she sliced and served it, in case the whole cake was not eaten at the same time then, the topping went in fridge( dad would sneak a slice and toast it with butter for breakfast!... the fruit is warm and a bit chewy, in this cake when lightly browned on the stove in butter or or toasted in toaster with fresh butter on top)... It is always better to prepare everything in advance including sifting the flour, cutting the fruit, preparing the baking dish and greasing the glass before mixing the cake ingredients because the longer you leave cake mixture once mixed the less likely it is to rise satisfactorily. Your cake looks delicious.

Yes, lol. It is a fruit cake sweetened with jam instead of sugar, served with fresh cream. I like the 'rope' idea though for separating the two halves of the cake.
