In the east (esp Korea, Vietnam, etc) these types of services, the ones we see in all these videos from her and others, are as commonplace as nail salons are here in the west. It’s a gorgeous part of their historical culture of total wellness, which is so amazing. So just like we can get a manicure for $10-15 here in the US almost anywhere, they have much easier access to these things that are just a given. Meanwhile, even western-esthetic facials in the US are considered a luxury and are easily $60-upward. Check out Henry Rolling, his channel features salons from all over Vietnam with different services similar to this...kind of like a travel guide for ASMR services in-person!

Spa/self care services in many Asian/SE Asian countries outside of China are nowhere near as expensive as they are in most of the West (speaking proportionally, not just given exchange rates). Again, it’s due to the place of these services in their cultural history and the fact that they’re considered routine, not a “luxury”. It really doesn’t have as much to do with the specifics of China’s decision to lower the value of the yuan against the US dollar (it purposely ties its currency value to the USD to benefit its exports, instead of most advanced nations which allow market forces to determine their currency value). China only very recently lowered the yuan by 16% in late 2019 in response to US tariff sanctions; in the many years prior, their policy was actually to gradually increase the yuan value each year). So while the term “devalue” sounds like it would be the reason, a) this 16% drop from 7 yuan to 6 yuan per USD is a new thing and b) these services have always been much much less cost-inflated as a luxury in cultures where they are traditionally seen as “just another thing people do” to take care of themselves. Hope this helps explain it a bit! 😇
