When it's an extinct variety, carefully grown from 87 year old seeds, it deserves this level of enthusiasm.

I still remember a tomato I had in 1961. Can you imagine something so good that you can remember it your whole life? I've yearned for that ever since. Some tomatoes have come close, but that one was absolutely special. Cheers! It's been fun watching this.

I grew up in Chico California in the 50s and 60s. We always had a garden and plenty of fruit and nut trees. The taste of fruits and vegetables back then was so good. I to this day still have not had any fruit or vegetables that tasted that good. I really miss the flavors

I'm excited for you Luke. It's quite the accomplishment to get a tomato from an 87 year old seed. It's also great that you are saving the seeds. I'm sure that the tomatoes will become even better as the plant gets accustomed to producing them. To any extent - thanks for sharing the great journey with us. Looking forward to some seeds! 😉

Luke, you are so passionate about what you do and you are a pleasure to watch. Thank you for this tomato saga! I've been following it from the first and I'm so happy to see this taste test today!! I would love to have a few seeds, but how are you going to secure the actual growing of these plants once the seeds leave you? Wouldn't it be a shame if people bought them and then didn't follow through and grow them??

It's absolutely mind boggling how much negativity has been in this series. I don't understand it. I get how it's hard to believe that something like this is possible, but everyone immediately went to you faked it. Some things have to be taken on faith. It's incredible that y'all were able to bring this back from Extinction. Keep the seeds, make the plants have a real future of existing and then focus on letting the seeds go out. Unfortunately, there will be people who buy these seeds and then grow them for one season and that be that. I really look forward to the day they are available, but nurture and grow these, the one seed to make it happen and it did! Truly a miracle.

I had what's called a Blueberry Tomato the other day - I'm not sure if it's a rare variety or not, but here's the thing - I normally don't eat tomatoes, especially the big ones. This one was very small, about the size of, you guessed it, a blueberry. Well, as my one video from the other day states, this was actually kind of tasty, and I wouldn't mind having more - just need to wait a day or two.

Luke! don't give up on this seed. here's a suggestion for next year. graft one of these onto a more resistant cultivar of tomatoes. you can find lists online for popular choices. it may help with some disease issues and long term health of the plant.

I dont know how you watered them during the hot weather you had, but when watching another video, the man that was growing the tomatoes recommended watering in the morning before too hot, and water the soil, not the leave or tomatoes to avoid causing any rot on them. Hope this encourages you. Much 💖.

We have the opposite in Netherlands, quite wet and normal temperatures this last July and a little on the cool side for the tomatoes and gherkin. Before that ups and downs

I grew the black cherry tomato this year. It tastes very different, also. They are very good, tangy, acidic with a salted taste. Very unusual.

Do you believe it is a determinate or indeterminate type? I'd be so excited to get even one seed from the Crimson giant in my garden

An old trick is to hang red glass Christmas bulbs on the plants while the tomatoes are green, the neighborhood birds peck on them and find out there not good to eat, so they leave the real ones alone when they ripen. Or so they say.

If someone's already said this, I'm sorry. (There are hundreds of comments) but if you made a playlist on your channel devoted to this whole process people would love it.
So exciting that you've just achieved the de-extinction if this tomato variety, bringing the past alive, literally.

Hey Luke, just a question not related to this. Yes, I know you grow hydroponics, but what do you think about the Mittleider Method of growing and would you use it or no?

The interior pattern was fantastic. Hope you do well with your hydroponic set I would like to buy a few seeds in a few years. I believe it would be a experience and gift to a few people who would appreciate it. It's not just a tomato, It's a time capsule.

Great vid and congratulations on the tomato seed find and plant. We have same temps here and higher in day , over 90's. I have had good results by watering 3 times a day if need be. I use compost in water to make liquid fertilizer once/ twice mo as needed, tiny amount organic tomato/ veg fertilizer, also epson salt. Great production on tomatos.

It’s good. Thanks for taking me through your journey! I have a 10’ tomato plant I have only got 2 tomatoes from. More are growing on it now though. I have an 8’ that I have gotten no tomatoes from. Blooms keep falling off that one and the shorter ones which I think are probably cherry tomato plants. The ID tags got lost or mixed up. I’m in SE Texas though. Probably got things in the ground too late. I do have a cucumber plant that is doing really great though. Blooms all over and a few cucumbers coming out. Not that you will ever see this. Just felt like posting. Great job on that 87 year old seed!!!
