Bio: Ruslan KD is a Christian UA-camr of Armenian descent who was a refugee from Baku, Azerbaijan, before moving to the United States as a child. He started his UA-cam channel in the mid-2010s, which has since grown into a popular platform for discussing faith, lifestyle, and music. Known for his insightful commentary on Christian living, culture, and personal development, Ruslan has built a community of followers who value his thoughtful approach to contemporary issues. In addition to his UA-cam presence, Ruslan is a speaker, author, and advocate for godly ambition, often addressing topics related to leadership, mental health, and the integration of faith in everyday life.
Our mission is to encourage, empower, and inspire people to live a life that Blesses God, in accordance with His word. As the Psalmist proclaims, "Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O you who are of Israel's fountain" (Psalm 68:26 ESV), and "Every day will I bless Thee; and I will praise Thy name forever and ever" (Psalm 145:2 KJV). Just as Simeon, after encountering Jesus, "took him up in his arms and blessed God" (Luke 2:28 ESV), we seek to lead others in a life of stewardship, relevant engagement, and practical living that honors and blesses the Lord.

I think we are very prone to the idea of "authenticity" being acceptable, when used as a euphemism for our sinful nature. We all need to strive better, as Christians who are witnesses of the Grace of God. And for our fellow brothers and sisters, we have to be active in accountability, and firm in it. There is more love expressed in "I'm concerned for you. Let's talk it out..." versus "praying for you."

@RuslanKD as someone not in Montell's close corner, I can say prayer is my most immediate tool here. But if I had his ear as more than just a fan, then I'd personally feel like that's a God given position to speak loving correction and understand the man behind the social media posts.
With that said, maybe I'm just hoping that for those who are his friends like WHATUPRG are commenting "praying for you" that that isn't all he is doing, yah know?

I agree, we definitely need to pray for the most high's blessings on our brother. The changes we saw happened so suddenly, at least to me it did. Which makes me think that he needs us to pray always for him because every Christian that sticks his neck out to lead people into the light will get ambushed one way or the other. I'm hurt seeing the evidence of what he is dealing with. So just as his music inspired and supported people when they were in the weeds of life, we owe him our support now in return, even when he lashes out.

We aren’t going to act like all or even most Christians are “genuinely concerned” when our brothers and sisters in Christ fall short. The religious spirit is rampant in the Christian community. There are plenty of people who willfully cast stones and condemn out of their own ignorance.

@@goldengirl7625 some people are but most people are concerned. Who is judging him? When you see a believer backsliding you let them know, that is not judgement. People love mistaking correction for judgement. We don’t judge sinners but as Christians we know other Christians by there fruit and montells fruit is a little questionable right now. For example Kanye is out here acting crazy, his fruit is questionable. Voicing a concern is not judgment especially when you put yourself out there to public don’t be shocked when people question your choices and action especially when you label yourself as a Christian. As a Christian, why are you cursing like that? That’s concerning. That’s something he would have never did in the past.

I’ve been a Montell fan since nights and days, honestly that album took me so much closer to loving worship. I actually went to his no blondes event and I remember in his early days he would jump in the crowd singing “I lay down my life for the holy God” and at this one he did the same thing but doing like some rage freestyle. That hit me hard I’m not gonna lie. I love his new music, i can’t lie, but it grieved my heart to see the transition. I felt compelled to leave a comment on this video for whatever reason. Literally created an account just for this.
This may be long winded, but as someone who has struggled with some mental health issues (depression, super low self-esteem, people pleasing behavior, suicidal ideation, etc.) I found myself drawn deeply to the type of music that Montell produces. During the height of my "bad times" where I was very distant from God, I would frequently listen to artists/projects such as the Weeknd's "My Dear Melancholy" or his highly praised "Trilogy" era, the early sing-songy, heart broken Drake days (although he was probably the least "bad" of this camp), XXXTentacion, Lil Peep, JuiceWrld and the rest of the "emo rap" Soundcloud scene, etc. Anything moody and pensive was my jam. Some other examples would be "FEEL." by Kendrick Lamar or "All Eyes on Me" by Bo Burnham. The common thread throughout all of these pieces of work was it's fixation and near fetishization of darkness.
It felt good to see my deeply held pain expressed in such raw and guttural ways. It felt like I was not alone in my pain, and in some respects, comforted me that other's were going through similar situations. But I soon realized something in my depressive stupor, in the midst of the long nights I would spend alone listening to such music, playing video games, getting high, falling into pornography and other sexual sins- all of it wasn't really making me FEEL any better. I was ruminating on the darkness. As a cow chews their cud I would meditate on my pain over and over, falling down even deeper into a rabbit hole of despair.
Eventually, I realized that this wasn't it. I began to realize that maybe I liked being the "ugly duckling" or the "red headed step child". I was, in some sense, proud of my depression, romanticizing it in a way. I fear this is a huge trap that few don't realize. There can not be freedom from darkness when the light is never an option. All too often, this type of music presents despair without hope, without the LIGHT. And that's where the Lord comes into play. This world is surely a place of great suffering, yet it also, paradoxically, is a world of such vast and unimaginable beauty. For the health and well being of our very souls, we must be sure to approach life with both sides of the coin- the light and the darkness. There will be suffering in this life, that is a guarantee, but there will also be laughter, joy, love, admiration, awe, etc.
I'm not really sure who this is for out there, but I genuinely pray if you are reading this that you seek the fullness of God and take some time to acknowledge what a magnificent blessing it is that he sent his son into the darkness so that we may be one day joined with him in glory. As for me, my journey out the pit hasn't been easy and is still not complete but has gotten so much better (praise God). Through the suggestion of Ruslan, I have gone into therapy with a Christian counselor who has helped me a ton, I've begun to seek God more (although I definitely could do more), and try to engage in positive activities (such as joining Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, for example) that will build me up rather than tear me down or stagnate me. The road is not easy but it is SO much better than succumbing to despair and becoming another statistic. God has a calling for you far greater than you could possibly imagine.

The craziest thing about all of this is that Montell is not the only one in this scenario at this time. The same thing is happening with Jonathan from Ecclesia and (maybe) with ØM-53. I remember that Ecclesia’s lead singer produced a Christian song with questionable visuals and then he became Cain Culto and is now calling himself a “non-binary witch priestess”. With ØM-53 we saw the band get popular from their album “Defender” and last year they released an album that was questionable if it was Christian or not. I thought Taylor Armstrong was going to go through the same thing, but thankfully it only happened in 2021 and Taylor Armstrong keeps making Christian music. The point that I learned from all these artists (2 of which who are my favorite being Montell Fish and ØM-53) is that you can’t fully trust them and that you have to trust God. But, it is sad that these artists have done this because their music was a better alternative to Christian music that’s played on the radio. All we can do for these artists is pray for them 🙏.

The image that he's portraying to us is that of an ungodly person. You guys can say "oh, he's playing a character". Playing a character is not an excuse to be sinful. As Christians, we ought to show a great deal of empathy, patience, and love to our brothers in Christ, but the Bible is the final authority and we should rebuke or correct (you may call this judging if you want) our brothers using the Bible, and if you read and follow God's teachings, you know Montell Fish has more likely abandoned his faith. I was a big fan of Montell Fish, I even showed my non-Christian friends his songs to let them know that some Christian artists are amazing at what they do, but now my friends can't tell if he's a Christian or not.

My theory is the same thing that is happening to Montell is what happened to Joseph Solomon. Both seemed to be sold out for Christ, until they signed a contract with a record label, bleached their hair blonde, and slowly but surely, little by little, drifted away from God. What people don't realize is when artists sign a 360 record deal (or any record deal) with a big record label, this happens quite often. They begin to talk about God less and less, until they are no longer believers.
Look at Lecrae and and Lauren Daigle... same thing. They started drifting away from "christian music artist" to just an artist.

I started listening to Montell's content maybe 4 years ago. I became a follower of his music and was genuinely blessed and uplifted by it. I went to a show at a Church right before the pandemic hit, featuring him and some other Christian artists. I saw him when the other artists were performing, and you could tell that he was out there praising and receiving along with every one else from the other artists, before even his own performance. Nothing phony about that guy at all.
I truly believe that Montell has been and is going through something spiritually. I noticed a turn in his content and art within the last year or so. This young man is anointed musically and is able to reach and speak to a lot of people through that anointing. And that makes him a definite target by satan. I honestly don't believe he's going in the right direction but because he IS anointed and gifts and callings are without repentance, he's going to attract an audience and even make it to big time platforms, but of course all of that is in vain, if not for the glory of God ultimately. I get his frustration with those who may not in his mind, understand where he's going with his art, but to lash out at the very people that supported you when the world didn't know you or even care, was disappointing and just messed up TBH. Ultimately, I agree with Ruslan, I think I unsubscribed to him and believers should to if they don't agree with the direction he's going artistically if not personally, but we should most certainly keep this dude in our prayers, because he truly needs that more so than the criticism.

In my opinion Montell has always been a wonderful artist with an incredible vision.... but the character and direction he created for this new "era" or "album" is englufing HIM and not just the fans or art itself. As a LONGTIME fan I've given the benifit of the doubt bc I get his idea for painting the concept of counterfeit love that relationships bring us that pull us away from the true love of God. It was hard to do but felt right because he posted small stories and short livestreams where he pleaded ppl to bare with him and that this was part of the plan... but at this point more damage is being done, the ratio of attention coming in that will even listen to whatever the pay off is is almost irrelevant to the alienation of the core fanbase and what not. Obviously no one is "too far gone" but I just wish this performance would end so we can see the love of christ back in front stage.

The problem with a lot of his Christian fans is that they are putting Montell in a box and judging him to their standards. It’s all over Montell’s comments. They are making assumptions about this man without knowing him personally. Saying things like “He walked away from God.” Montell has said time and time again that this is a character and a story. Even when he was doing the Jamie story early on he was getting a lot of unnecessary judgment and hate. It’s not fair to say he crossed the line and lashed out when he has been getting harassed non stop for being an artist and telling a story. He obviously had enough. I can recall my brother being picked on and everyone just sat and watched. The minute my brother stood up for himself “He was wrong and did too much” A lot of Christians do not give grace despite serving a God who died so we can have an unlimited amount of grave. Montell is trying something different to reach a wider audience, and it’s working. How many people who call themselves a “Christian rapper” will be on Jimmy Fallon? Only Christians will listen to them, and half of those Christian fans will turn on them the minute they step outside of those Christian fan’s box, or show that they are human, which is what Montell is doing. Ask Lecrae. Lecrae is one of the biggest artists in the Christian field who gets a ton of hate for no reason. He doesn’t even swear in his music. Montell has also expressed that he used to be like the very Christians who are in his comments now. Ironically, he did this when he was still in the Camp Luke Warm era. I personally don’t see how Montell’s fans are not spamming his comments out of being concerned. If feel like if they were genuinely concerned, they would message him privately with love rather than comment publicly to show they do not support his new path. If they don’t want to follow him any longer, then they are more than willing to unfollow.

Though i cant lie to say that its been pretty frustrating to watch him and RockstarJT act kind of hostile and standoff-ish toward their fan bases for the past week now and its understandable at its root cause, but after a while gets harder to see them in an optimistic light. I was originally all for the Jamie story etc, and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt as it seemed like he was going through a lot. But after his IG post, I was disappointed 😞. I get how hard it is for his Christian fans to see the switch in content, but that also doesn't mean we should be lashing out in his comment section acting like we know everything! We as Christians should be keeping him in prayer, and pray for his relationship with Jesus as that is the most important thing 🙏

I deconverted from fundamental christianity last year, around the same time that Montell transitioned into this new phase (I´ve been following him since 2018 basically) and I do understand his frustration and need to lash out. I´ve experienced personally, how a lot of christians simply base their interest of you within a christian context, so that you feel like there isn´t any love for you outside of being a christian. It´s why all the "I´m praying for you"-DMs are not only useless as a sign of love but counter-intuitive because when people try to experiment with things outside the christian bubble or leave it entirely, people within that bubble so often just dumb their entire experience down to "being on the wrong path" and that isn´t a good precedent for a genuine conversation, yet alone a good connection. It´s simply very tiresome constantly having to explain yourself to christian people (when in most cases you know you have good and valid reasons) just for those people to then reject your explanation or not listening properly. Adapting a IDGAF-attitude then doesn´t seem so illogical, since I don´t own my faith or any explanation of it to anybody other than myself. It´s a private thing. The people I actually talk to nowadays about my faith are the people who are interested in me beyond my faith. But I don´t think Montell as a public figure gets to choose who those people are.
That being said, I do think he could have had more nuance and openness in his transition to his newer stuff. The shift was very radical and the sudden rise to fame doesn´t help at all and just reinforces stereotypes. Creating a space for conversation or just simply saying goodbye to his old fans without any bad feelings would have been very helpful.

Respect. And couldn’t agree more. Religion is such a personal experience yet in the church we’re taught to cross a lot of personal boundaries at times when people choose something different.
Sure he could always do things better but he’s human. And it’s ok to make mistakes, every experience no matter how it looks on the outside can ultimately help us grow.
Personally, my worst experiences have helped me grow the most.

I agree with you Ruslan to some extent. I think the issue is that we have "professional" Christians. Christians should be able to make music freely without worrying about every song being "wholesome". He could also be processing his feelings through his art, which I think is totally fine, because Christians who are not professionals also deal with things and it's nice to see that others also go through things. That's one of the reasons why I like NF's music. When Montell's stuff is released, then you can decide you want to continue to listen to his stuff. This backlash from Christians obsessively asking if he is Christian and telling him to get deliverance is pushing him farther away if he is in fact really struggling. This pushes real kids away from the gospel, the obsessive probing and holding people to unrealistic standards at all times. I think you should definitely Pray for him. Maybe ask if he is okay. Don't ask if he is Christian. Because what the comments are saying is that these people only like Montell while he is Christian, not because he is Montell. And that is an issue that often comes up. Do people only love others while they are Christian? We are supposed to love the sinner, the one who is struggling. I think he is exposing the unhealthy ways that Christians interact with the young generation and that should be a conversation we should be having as a church.

Truthfully speaking as an artist, yes it’s ideal to say Christian fans shouldn’t hold him accountable but it’s unrealistic. As an artist you’re accountable to your fans that’s why you build a ‘brand’. Even secular artists live in accountability to their fans and don’t act carelessly so they don’t contradict their brand. But when it comes to the Christian community we shouldn’t hold accountable or question??!! I think that’s too much and an unrealistic expectation tbh.

We just prayed for the brother and hope he genuinely comes to the faith fully IF that is the issue - Again - we don't know.
We would love to let it go, But we can't ignore clear scripture "stay away from every appearance of evil" "be not unequally yoked - yes I believe this Can apply in careers (not every christian does) - Point is, their are clear fruit verses, Now if Montelll was just falling, stumbling , having issues, I GET THAT, I am struggling with some things RIGHT NOW, but my heart is right there with God crying out. Always crying out - Montells difference is he is accepting what he is doing, He is even cursing those who try to help. We are to love even our enemies, and he's cursing those who are to be his brothers, There is an issue here, A big one, We aren't trying to be his "accountability" buddies as if we are perfect, But I mean... The early church was beast mode, They'd kick you out for certain offenses, I wonder if I'd be kicked out! I'm FAR from perfect, But we can't be faulted for being worried about a salvation issue, Fruit etc. If we could all just Be what we wanted out here in the world... What would separate us? --- It's concerning and i think the issue is more we need to pray and let God reveal all things, as he alone knows all things. He knows the full parameters of a persons heart where WE fail.
