Coin sound is reused from NSMB.
Coins are different looking.
Star coin sound is reused from NSMB
Damage sound is reused from NSMB.
1-1 secret underground is relocated.
it also has a different layout.
Underground theme most likely reused from NSMB.
Propeller mushroom is a propeller P.
The goal flag has a skull instead of a Bowser icon.
Goal castle looks different.
There's a player ranking screen.
In 1-2 it plays the overworld theme underground.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was kind of a half sequel half its own thing. The original New Super Mario Bros. got a direct sequel on the 3DS called New Super Mario Bros 2. while this game (New Super Mario Bros Wii.) got a few follow ups of its own called New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
