Another favorite of mine. I remember the day he passed, I was 7 and my older sister was upset and crying. I was wondering what was the big deal. Since that day there have been two artist that have effected me like Elvis's influence on my sister. Prince and Neil Peart of Rush. Even as much as I love those artist, Elvis would've been on another level globally. I remember in was non stop on the news, conversations and continued for days in my house. You can't get more iconic than Elvis.

@JeromeDukes You are so right, Jason. I remember when Elvis died. I was 12 or 13. It was like the world stopped for a few days...everyone was so upset ♥️

I can remember watching this concert on TV - Elvis was a fantastic entertainer and singer. Always been one of my favourites, and the world lost something special when he passed away. I think a lot of folk in my generation can remember exactly where they were when the announcement came through that he had died.

THAT RUNWAY from the STAGE: Thanks to the genius of producer/director Marty Pasetta who had that runway built. Pasetta told Tom Parker that he wanted to build a runway for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no. Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to because Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis, but Parker still said no. Fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the runway. Pasetta told Elvis he needed to lose some weight & Elvis lost 25 lbs. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Without that runway the concert would have had a different feel if Elvis did not have the opportunity to get in close touch w-the audience.
This concert was a benefit to raise money for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund. It was expected to raid $25,000 but raised $75,000. Elvis bought his own ticket for $1,000. Thank you again.

@carolhayar3037 Very cool. Elvis always loved his fans. It is too bad the colonel had so much control over what Elvis did

Elvis' jumpsuits were made of stretch wool gabardine, the same fabric used for ice skaters, for ease of movement. They were lined in satin or silk. His costumer was Bill Belew who then had to pass the torch over to Gene Doucette due to Bill's overwhelming work load. Bill 1st began w-Elvis by creating the famous 2-piece black leather slacks & jacket he wore for his '68 Comeback special. Both Belew & Doucette can be seen on videos w-more details & sketches of some of the jumpsuits. Thanks.

@@carolhayar3037 Hey Carol, that is crazy that it was made of wool. He must have been so hot! 🤩

    • @carolhayar3037
      @carolhayar3037 4 місяці тому +1

Absolutely, but aside from the fabric, they were extremely heavy, & being on stage w-those super hot house lights & stage lights is enough to make you feel like passing out, even if you're not wearing anything. Btw, the 2 piece suits he wore in Vegas in 1969 (which they stupidly didn't film) were stamped w-little crowns on the inside lining. Thank you so much for Elvis. I've been watching & listening to him since 1954 when I was 11 & I still have a stash of original 45's which I can play on a newly bought "phonograph." Have a great weekend.

Elvis covered this song & his (like so many covers he did) was a bigger hit, went gold, and charted all over the genres: number 6 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, #22 on HOT100 chart, the next year it went to #2 on the the Country chart... then it finally went to #1 on the Cash Box Country chart. In the UK, it went to No. 9 on their singles chart. Yeah.... Elvis owned this song alright!

    Amazing performance
You may want to check but if memory serves me right this is not the first time that the french melody had english lyrics
David Bowie wrote english words to it ahead of Paul Anka writing my way .
Elvis was and will always be king
68 Comeback Special : If I Can Dream is so beautiful
My favorite Elvis Album is Elvis in Memphis and favorite song off same album is
True Love Travels on a Gravel Road
Hard to mess up such a good song . Even Sid Vicious did a decent version

Hey Jesse. Elvis is one of a kind...incredible. I will be happy to listen to those 2 songs you suggested. I have never heard them before. He added so much to any song he touched. He will always be the King 🤴 💜

You might tear up 😢 watching it

BACKGROUND for the SONG:The original French song entitled "Comme d'habitude" was composed by Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibaut & Claude François. The English version (My Way) was written by Paul Anka who re-wrote the original version for Frank Sinatra. Anka changed the lyrics & subtly altered the melodic structure. The original French song has nothing to do w-Paul Anka’s written version as we know it, for the translation of "Comme d'habitude" meaning is “something that happens regularly” or “that isn't surprising.” There is a video of the original French version w-English subtitles on the internet.
Sinatra’s daughter Nancy said Sinatra did not like the song to the point of hating it. Sinatra said it was "self-serving" but performed it many times anyway.
Sinatra did have a very good voice, but like many singers "back then," little emotion went into a song. The emotion that Elvis put into every song that he sang, came from his soul & his gut -- even the up-tempo ones.
