The foraging spin toy with the wooden balls in it is a totally brilliant idea. It's like a slot machine -- sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. Again, just totally brilliant idea and I'm so glad you shared it. I found the same spin toy at Drs. Fosters & Smith and ordered it already. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos -- I've learned so much and am excited to be able to apply what you've taught me when interacting with my CAG, Kona.
Katrin C, I 'm not sure but ,if anyone else wants to uncover parrot training cd try Dalz Parrot Tips Discovery ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.
African Grey’s are tropical birds. Not really suited to cold outdoor temps. Southern California stays relatively warm throughout the year I’m assuming. For the health of your feathered friend it might be wise to aid on the side of caution and bring your parrot indoors as seasonal temperatures begin to fall. Love your videos. You are doing a great service in educating people about companion Parrots kept in captivity with humans. Keep on spreading the word in enlightening folks who otherwise are ignorant about these birds.
I hv observed thru my AG that she digs when on my bed and is territorial to anyone but mr. While doing this i observed it is a nesting ritual. Only mates and young are allowed in their nests in the wild. She only did this scratching and became territorial when she was in season for mating. The rest of the year, she did not exhibit these traits.
Thank you!!! Great video! I live in the mtns. Gets really cold and damp here. Decided to bring Buddy, my Macau, in at about 55...too chilly for him. Thank you again...
Great! Really fun and inspiring to modify the foraging toy to give her more activity. I just taught my conure to step up consistently from one of your other videos. Next, when she starts to fly, I will get her to come onto my hand. Only she learns pretty fast so I think she tires of the same trick quickly.
We're going to buy an African gray, but even though our balcony is HUGE, it's against the rules to build an aviary. Is is ok if I keep him in a cage for the night and let him out when we are there?
I love how you matched your Christmas tree to smokey 😂😂😂😍😍 me and my cockatiel kiko love watching you and learning new tricks and ideas to keep her entertained :D love your vids keep doing what your doing it's great!! Also kiko says hi to smokey she likes having conversations with the videos of her haha it's adorable I don't think she understands that smokey can't hear her hehe xxxxx MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!❄☃⛄🌨🌌🌲😘🐱🐦 Also could you do a safe foods and not safe foods for birds, because I've seen some people giving their birds things that they definitely shouldn't have, I have a chart which I found on Pinterest which has some but I think it's a good idea to spread the message in making sure people know exactly what they can and can't eat
talking of drafts it might be a good idea to sheild part of the aviary so that she can choose to be protected from drafts, rain or sun as she chooses. Not sure how to do that without compromising the design of the cage though, and your aviary may already be protected enough anyway
Great tips! I’m going to purchase that foraging toy and try it with my red head, green cheeked Amazon. She’s pretty stubborn. We recently acquired an African Grey that use to be her flock mate 20 years ago. Your videos have been very helpful to us. Thank you and have a fun and safe holiday!
BJGvideos their is some familiarity on both parts but they are still building trust with each other. My Amazon seems to show more recognition and is using the soothing tones she was raised with like, “it’s okay, it’s all right”, and “Sweet, sweet bird”. It’s been a transition for the CAG as he was on a seed, cheese ball, frosted mini wheat diet. 😕 We’ve put him on pellets, fresh chop and he is taking to it well. Full vet check up and after a changed diet in the last 3 months he is doing very well. We are working on stepping up and biting as we build trust. He is such a sweet bird and so much quieter than our very spoiled Amazon. I’m in touch with their original owner who now lives in Australia and found out she actually owned the CAG, Sebastian, a year before she acquired Ruby the Amazon. So they are 25 and 24 years old!
Hey man been loving your vids. Just got a 10 week old grey African. Trying to do it all the right way. I feel like we are trying too hard to give him attention and it’s overwhelming him but not sure if that’s a thing. How much “alone” time do they need? Also when we hand feed him and after he’s full, he chirps loudly every 2 sec for like an hour after. Any ideas what this means?
Is plain water enough for spray bathing my gray or should I buy special products for bathing. Also as maintenance should I spray him with a lice product. He's not showing problems.
Great information! Thank you for the link to the foraging toy. I ordered one for my cockatoo, and found some other fun items to add to the order. Happy holidays to you and your birdie!
My grey digs in her cage, but very rarely. That's where she's territorial though, but I think due to the scarcity of the digging that it may be a coincidence.
I just got my first ever bird today , he is a budgey and is kept in a room where a lotof people come in and out of he is screming a lot so I would like to know if I have done anything wrong?
Hello, I really like the approach you take with your parrot and I have a question for you. I am going to adopt a 10 year old african grey parrot. I am 40 years old and I don't think it's fair to get a baby as it will surely outlive me. I live in the west of Ireland where the weather is just not ideal for these parrots and they shouldn't be here at all, but at least I'll try to do my best with one that is already here He's an only seed bird so I'll have to convert him and all that. I have a lot of foraging toys, an avian light and all ready for him but in the summer we get like 2 or 3 weeks of really good weather when I go to the river and swim and try to spend as much time outside as I can (like everybody else here). I live in an apartment so I don't have the space for an aviary. In the summer I would like just to be able to bring the bird along. As the bird is not a baby I imagine is going to be hell to try and get him used to a harness, I was wondering how would you go about it? I would like to give this parrot the best life he could possibly have. Thank you for everything you do to try to help people with their birds.
a co phai la nguoi viet nam k. e rat thich con vet cua a va dang tim mot con nuoi . a co vet con k ban cho e con duoc k. e dang o my . mong a tra loi cho e nhe. thanks
I placed the link in the video description box. That site has a lot of really good bird supplies -toys and food included- so just click around. Their shipping is also very fair and is free if you spend a certain amount. I swear I'm not sponsored by them, haha.
I have the same issue with Tukufu, she will easily forage for treats but not her pellets. Would you recommend not putting pellets in a dish and instead make her forage for them? I was thinking about doing that, but I am afraid she will starve because she isn't motivated to forage for the pellets, lol!
I'd recommend offering her fruits and veggies in the morning while putting her pellets in foraging toys. I've found that after she eats moist foods, she'll really crave for her pellets.
Thank you so much, I'll have to try that. Also thank you for the tip on temperature. I've always been worried about that since they are a jungle parrot.
I need help! Whenever my sun conure lands on the ground after she flys, she will go poop right where she landed. What can I do to change this behavior?? Shes about 5 months old if that helps
wingsNpaws ive somewhat potty trained her to go potty on a stand and her wings are clipped but not recently. I guess it will just take time but thanks for the info
Isn't "acclamation" (at 1:29) another word for cheering on or praising someone? To applause? Like "critical acclaim" from the box office. I guess the word that he was looking for and should've used here was "acclimatization". Like adaptation or the process of becoming accustomed to a newer climate, or weather conditions, altitude etc. Other words.. conditioning, habituation etc.
What brand pellets are you trying? Try Zupreem natural for cockatiels (the formula is the same as for large parrots, just a smaller size). Most pick eaters will take to that brand and if you want to convert to a different brand, it becomes easier. Try handfeeding your bird the pellet, so (s)he knows its safe. Also, feed your bird veggies and fruits prior. Once Smokey gets moist food, she will always eat pellets after.
also, what fruit and veggies do you recommend feeding and african grey, im curious because I recently bought him from my dad, and at his house he was on a seed only diet
Hello! My father and I are adopting a 14 year old Congo Grey named Ruby. I have done research in preparation for her arrival and have found your channel very informative. I know that they are sensitive to scents and have already gotten rid of our scented candle, my main concern now is incense. We are Vietnamese and burn them every day. What do you do when you and your family are burning incense? We are getting a chemical air purifier (allen fit50) and I don't know if that's enough. Should we keep her cage covered also? We are excited about her arrival and are anticipating the adjustment period (that hopefully isn't rough for her) but I don't want her to get hurt, but we also can't stop burning incense.Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you anh!
Hi Ashley, we don't burn incense. I would recommend that you keep Ruby's cage far from where you are burning it, because the smell can be overwhelming.
Another awesome video my friend. Thank you! PS. Where did you get the aviary frame? Would you be willing to provide a link? Happy holidays to you and your flock.
Same here. For many years my Timneh would exhibit such behavior, ...would dig and then look at me expecting to be taken out of the cage. Dig more if needed until taken out. Nowadays he just vocalizes to be taken out. No digging anymore.
Hey...I bought a new parrot.....And i would like to ask you for some tips....Is there any way that i can communicate with you?Like email or social media or something?
I just bought it from the store.....It is scared to come near me.....It moves to the corner of the cage when I open it.....How can i make him trust me?If i use the harness now it will be scared of me even more.....
Spend time with it daily. At first, even just walking by, speaking in a friendly voice, and offering a treat. You need to build trust with him first. Good luck! 💕
Athul Prasad Bird is still getting used to a new environment. Talk to it, sing, leave the cage door open and put toys on top to encourage it to crawl around, and so on.

Sadly, I feel obliged to comment on Smokey's behavior on your bed: it is a sign that her needs are not met in the context of captivity... Wow, I love your enclosure for the bird! I’m getting a parrot soon 😚😊😊

Great tips and love the enclosure, and your whole yard! Smoky is amazing!

I'll keep that idea in mind for a future video. Smokey says Merry Christmas to you and your flock!
When you think about it screaming can be a make-shift alarm clock
Except it may sometimes not turn off and may occur intermittently throughout the day.
lol, my bird is my alarm clock, it's convenient when I don't want to sleep in but not so much otherwise XD
@@wingsNpaws Makeshift snoozebutton :D

Smokey kinda has the same color as the Christmas tree. Thanks for the video. Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas♡♡♡😊🎄🎄🎄🎁🎁🎁
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you and your flock!
Really like ur video…
Even I’m thinking of getting one…
I just want to know… can African grey can be left alone for 8-9 hrs.?? Bcz of job…

Can you give me tell me where I can find a reputable African grey breeder ?
In a few scenes, there is a dog in the background with christmas sweater, is that snuggles? it would be good to show her as well from time to time.
What a clever, beautiful girl.
Hey man been loving your vids. Just got a 10 week old grey African. Trying to do it all the right way. Any other foraging toys?
Is plain water enough for spray bathing my gray or should I buy special products for bathing. Also as maintenance should I spray him with a lice product. He's not showing problems.
I'm getting a baby grey soon...I want to make homemade perches for him. What kind of trees and or plants are safe/dangerous for him.
Java or dragon are both very good and not to bad to work with just make shore its untreated
Great information! Thank you for the link to the foraging toy. I ordered one for my cockatoo, and found some other fun items to add to the order. Happy holidays to you and your birdie!

Shes so smart and beautiful i cant! 💕
My Amazon is going thru her breading phase. It is tuff to deal with sometimes.
Merry Christmas to you and Smokey

Jaklantern From my experience with parrots they like to poop more on flat surfaces, but to fix this watch WingsnPaws potty training video.
That is normal. Is she clipped? Once you flight train her, you could potty train her to go in a specific location in the room.
wingsNpaws ive somewhat potty trained her to go potty on a stand and her wings are clipped but not recently. I guess it will just take time but thanks for the info

I want a video on cocktail bird
I would prefer a video on the martini bird.
That's a great foraging toy but it's quite a bit too big for my parakeet. Do you have any you recommend for a budgie?
I don't, but I'm sure if you google "budgie foraging ideas", you'll be able to find some.

I live in Australia, and I have lovebirds. Since they're from Africa, do you think they'd survive Christmas? Love your videos 👍
Adorable
Another awesome video my friend. Thank you! PS. Where did you get the aviary frame? Would you be willing to provide a link? Happy holidays to you and your flock.
I have a video, pretty recent, on the aviary. I think it'll answer your question.
wingsNpaws thank you!
Smokey matches the tree :)
She does! Just a hint of red.
What to do when your parrot bites you hard?
Always great advice 👍
Smokey!!
Hello!
Which material you used to built the aviary?
Is it custom or you bought it made?
Sunny Sharif He did a video about that a few weeks ago.
Thank you!

Hi
Hello.
wingsNpaws omg I love ur vids
I thought the thumbnail was a big pile of african greys :S
Link is dead but found the forager in caitec website. SKU: 7-11085-00907-8
I post your wonderful videos on the bird forum I am on. Please join us. Avian Avenue. It's a great place to meet other like minded bird people.
Dianne ALLEN Hi Dianne, thanks for the invitation! I think bird forums can be a great place to learn; however, at this time, I don’t think I will be able to commit to one. I am a member of a few, but on top of my work and personal obligations, I have to pick and choose what I can handle. A 15 min video that is posted on here, for example, is really a full days work. I really do appreciate you reaching out to extend an invitation; I think it’s important that we continue to do what we can to keep learning (I’m still learning a lot myself). Tell the bird people at Avian Avenue that I said Hi and they’re always welcome to reach out to me thru my videos. Take care, from Smokey and me.
Aww thanks for your reply. We all love your videos.
Sadly, I feel obliged to comment on Smokey's behavior on your bed: it is a sign that her needs are not met in the context of captivity... Denying her access to the bed is the way to go, but it does not solve the problem: exotic birds are wild animals who do NOT belong in our homes as pets, and though this is difficult to accept, it is the truth.
CVersailles One of those in every bird video I swear.
