Love this pattern! I agree that k2tog is a struggle through the front loops, simply k2tog tbl or through the back loops. It’s essentially the same as slip slip k2tog as you are doing, just a little quicker. The result is the same. Why struggle? Knitting is for fun. Thanks ❤️

I always check with a knitters bible to check Ive the right stitches. the pattern was saying knit 4 together thought okay let's see where this leads....the stitch count was wrong and for some it wouldnt be at all easy. My advice to anyone is give this stitch a go it produces the most amazing results but follow the instructions to this video you wont go wrong. Happy Knitting xx
I think the confusion is over feather-and-fan and old-shale stitch. This pattern here is really old-shale, and it is what most people call feather-and-fan and the one they follow. The actual f&f stitch has that knit four together stitch. I have never knit it, frankly, two together is enough for me.
Also when you explained that the repeat was technically knit 2 together 3x. knit 6 with yarn over. and then its knit 6!!!! together. I was watching a different tutorial and that wasn't explained clearly so i was doing knit 2 together 3x. 6 yarn over knit. 2 knit together 3x, and then back to 6 knit yarn over. I'm not sure if i explained that correctly but thanks for pointing that out

I’m trying to think this through for in the round (say knit hat)... would my thinking be correct that multiple of 18 translates to 90 stitch round perfectly ... no additional stitch required since each repeat just begins anew all the way up and around? Hmmm, but how to decrease at crown?

Is there anyway you can show me if you are knitting a big blanket how do you do this stitch through the whole blanket without getting so many stitches adding on. I am a beginner at this and want to knit a throw blanket for me granddaughter so she can cuddle up in it.
Say for blanket, you add 5 stitches at beginning and 5 more at end...you knit those stitches each row...does the garter stitch shrink in height on the borders as you work through the blanket? When I have done garter stitch border on stockinette blanket, I have had to add short rows every so often to avoid the shorter row height of garter stitches.
Any tips on binding off the work this stitch because I don't want it to have a straight line going across when I finish it? Fiber Spider or fellow knitters, thank you.
I didn't realize the knitting in the back of the sts would make no difference. OR does it make a little difference? Would it matter at all if you ALWAYS did those sts the same way. You couldn't switch and do some in back and some in front......right? It is bound to make some kind of difference. Consistency is the key to this right? Whatever you do .....do it all the way through the piece.

Claire Jackson sounds like you ladies have knitted too many or too less of the yarn overs. It really helps to have stich markets after 18 stiches and then another marker after the next 18 etc. Honestly markers will help you massively.. good luck xx

Yes it eliminates the ridge. I like the results much better with every other row in purl stitches. There are a few variations on the feather and fan pattern. One is called Old Shale. Not sure which is which.

Hi. I casted on 36 sts plus 10 for 5 either side and when I was on the pattern row, the amount of sts never worked out correctly and my work did not look the same on the left as it did on the right facing the front!!! It was as if I had too many sts left over.
tracey wells if I may try and help here, cast on in multiples of 18 until you have reached the length you want then add an additional 2. The two is the selvage. I’m sure the sizing and cast on number while depend on your yarn size and needles ❤️🍀I hope this helps you

Well done, the explanation is very clear. If you have planned in a jacket a simple thread can mark the beginning and end of pattern areas.

A nice tutorial. This is called old shale, not feather and fan, though. Feather and fan is a slightly different pattern.

You could just knit into the back of the stitches and save time.

I think SSK is much easier than K2Tog when it doesn't make a difference in the pattern !!!
