If you are an AvGeek - go for Ramp! There is nothing like it; howling engines, the smell of burned JET-A1, the high-level (positive) stress and checking your watch every 30 seconds - LOVED IT! But I admit, that I nearly crapped my pants, whilst doing walk-out assistance in a storm with 65 kts wind gusts. If you are about 12 yards away from the running engines of an A320 and you can barely hold a firm stand next to the nose gear...that's not extremely pleasing! If you are a people person - go for CS! I always enjoyed having to deal with irrate pax. If you have been properly trained by your airline, you will know the psycholgical tricks & steps how to defuse these people. It was always funny when they went completly ballistic and apologized to you 5 mins later. Of course, sometimes crazy pax need to be refused or offloaded...so make sure that you have self-confidence and the ability to stand your ground, even if these people hurl insults at you etc.! They are not mad at you personally; they are mad at the airline or at their own fault - do not take negative emotions home with you, because some idiot did not know how to behave!
I work on the ramp in Phoenix Arizona. I love my job. I couldn't be a customer service agent having to deal with rude and drunk people. I did my fair share of customer service when I worked retail years ago.
I applied to United and went to a cattle call interview! It was my 4th time applying and I got that far, I didn’t get the job but never the less it gave me hope. I now applied to SW and I have another interview! Your videos have been so extremely helpful!
Working as a gate agent myself I think you did a good job explaining the difference in a nutshell. It's great you get a spotter to help guide you on the jb, because we dont, your on your own. Lol
I made the transition from the turnaround coordinator to Lost & Found agent. Currently I'm only working inside and kind of missing the outside of an airport, but I'm happy with my job in a small company. Even though all the people that come to me, do so out of a negative experience (having lost some property on the plane or their baggage not arriving) most people are nice and easy to handle. (I like to think that my positive attitude makes the people be nice) Because I'm in a smaller company, I am able to do many parts of my job while mostly working alone. This ofc can be a downside whenever a major issue results in 10+ people arriving on a flight without their bags and me having to take everyones information on the spot. I'm happy with the job and the downtime I have right now. Back when doing the turnaround, there was a constant stress to be on time.
Decided to leave united and be a fireman and cdl truck driver. Airlines pay could be so much better but leave us in the dust. Some people has been working at united for 20 years and still get paid 15 an hour.

Well I was hired as a cargo agent for a major airline. I stayed 2 years. Unfortunately, the environment wasn’t a great fit. I was hurt at the job and decided to move on to another position for another airline. I was interviewed today for another major airline and I have a video interview at for another and just moved to the next step with another one. I am on transition right now because I did leave my job before finding a new one lol … but you were right, once you get in the airline industry it is hard to leave lol. But I am positive that will get one offer or all 3. Lol anyways think you so much for your help. I am hoping to find my place and the position I like the most. I have applied for CSA, airports operator crew. Can’t wait for next week to find out which offer I will get! Oh I did not get to use my benefits yet because of the pandemic - hopefully in the next position-thank you again 🤗🙌

Hello, I got a call yesterday. Mind you my first interview was on Friday and got offered a position yesterday. It is Customer Service Representative at one of the major airline. It is part- time. I was worried about the pay because they are offering me almost 5 dollars less 😩then my previous job as a Cargo Agent. But the good thing is all benefits starts on the first of the following 60 days as opposed to waiting for the 6 months probation.( in my previous job as cargo agent) . The training is 2 weeks in my city ( I leave in one their hub) but could also change. So today I received the offer letter and every other information that I need for background check. I need to send everything as soon as possible because the next training is in two weeks. If not I will have to wait until up to August. Or reapply. I was worried for the salary because it is very low compare to what I have been received as a cargo agent. However I just received another part -time job as an interpreter which is on call basis and I can do as many hours as I want. As you said the starting pay sucks but once you are in it is hard to leave lol. Anyway, I am going to accept the offer. I haven’t received a call from the other airlines yet but as a single mom with 3 kids the part-time will work better for me. I can supplement with the other one and they said there will be plenty mandatory over time. I am nervous but excited. I have been wanting to work for an airline for as long as I remember. My original dream is to become a flight attendant but I have a 13 and a 10 years old. I am a single mom with no other support at home yet. So I will make my way up there.Thank you again. I will follow after training 🤗🙌I am very excited. Can you type tell me about the customer service training ? Coming from cargo should I be nervous ?☺️let me know. Thank you.

One question regarding Ramp....Are you out in the elements all day or are you able to get inside for breaks? I'm curious what the breakdown of inside/outside is for a typical day. I think on most days this is not an issue. More curious about extreme weather days. I have many questions regarding both and will see if I can find your answers on previous posts first. Thank you for watching my videos. Between flights, there is definitely a place that you can go inside and escape from the elements. Ramp is great because you don’t have to deal with disgruntled passengers, but the cons are extreme weather. Customer service is great if you don’t want to lift as many bags and if you want to stay out of the elements. You can ask me any question here.

Both have their pros and cons. Ramp is so refreshing because you don’t have to deal with customers. But customer service is fun as well because you don’t have to lift as much and you get to meet interesting people.
I’m 53 and was thinking of applying for ramp (for the benefits) but a lot of ppl are saying that’s too old to working ramp and that there’s hardly any older adults working ramp. What do you think? I exercise almost daily and is a feisty 53 yr old. 😊😊
I’m not sure. It’s going to depend on your airline as well. Are they going to have you throwing 130 bags each flight? And how many flights would you have per shift? If you’re at a small station and only have a flight or two a day and only have 40 bags a shift, that’s doable. You have a cute personality. Did you ever think about doing customer service? For the flight benefits? We do have a few older people doing it. But since they’ve been there a while, they are not always thrown in the pit doing all the hard work. I’m just playing devils advocate. If you feel you can do it, you should go for it. I think it’s a great job. Let me know what you decide!
It sounds like you may work for a smaller airline. I'm an old, skinny person. I don't guess older ramp workers get a pass for being old and skinny. What's the oldest, smallest new ramp worker that's come in, not used to doing it their whole lives? Who decides which function each person does, like the things you listed? Like bag room, loader, off-loader, 'in charge?' Can you get away with just driving trucks around, and maybe moving bags to the conveyor? Can you get away with never working the cargo hole on your knees? Do you really do that now? I don't want PHYSICALLY DRAINING. And if I were, I'd only want a couple of days per week, and no consecutive so I could REST in between. How old is too old? Have you see newbies quit cause they can't handle the physical? When I see rampers working at the airport, they don't look like they're working that hard. It's like construction workers where one or two do all the work while the other guy 'supervises' by watching! Would it be a big help physically to be just a part-time ramper instead of full-time? Would that make a difference in whether you'd take the job or not? Are you ramper now? You seem smart and I like how you give concise information quickly whereas so many youtubers talk so slow and drag it out.
I’m 55, female, recently laid off, 5 feet 4, medium weight. I don’t like dealing with a lot of people specially customers and thinking of taking a ramp agent job. Although I’m starting to have lower back pain, should I just not apply?
It’s totally up to you. But, working the ramp might mess up your back worse. Maybe there’s another department you can get into that’s not as physical and away from customers.
So, is it possible to go ahead and do passenger agent customer service and do ramp I was offered both I would love to be behind the scenes in front of the scenes is it possible to work both jobs? I actually do to go to orientation for the ramp position on Monday I'm still waiting on results for background check and drug test for the customer service passenger agent position.. It’s going to totally depend upon the airline and station. My station is cross utilized. That means that we are trained for both customer service and ramp. Most stations are not. Many times you have to choose one. So inquire with your station about their protocol. Congratulations on getting hired at both! That is a wonderful accomplishment. Blessings on your new journey!

@@TheBohemianTraveler the wife is Mexican and we travel each year to visit her family near MEX. Delta hub is at MSP and has direct flights. I'm told if I go Southwest, I get deals with Delta, also. Not sure if it's the same deals. They said it would be about $100 each for tickets there. Costs 3k for the 4 of us normally. Can I work just Monday through Thursday? Possibly one day a week? Do you think I might be limited in any way because I'm hired by a 3rd company instead of directly? Will they actually let me transfer to a different department after 6 months? I want to work as little as possible so I can still work another job at higher pay. $14 an hour is not enough at full time. I do have a few other questions, is there a way I can send you a PM? Sean A I’m not sure about how your schedule will work at your station. I have been able to work 1 day a week for a while with trades and giving away shifts. Hopefully you will be able to manipulate your schedule as well. Yep, $14/hr does not cut it. Tell me your email address and I’ll email you.

At my station it is supposed to be a rotation. However, some people are more comfortable at gates so they put them at gates more often. Other stations bid for their position. Bidding is based on seniority.

Generally I don't. Only in irregular situations. But when I do, I just go to my locker, get my vest and get on the ramp. It's not too bad. Oh yes, and take off my scarf. LOL

had a eye opening experience with them recently. during the cattle call, they just say what you want to hear and sell delta. they interview you pretty hard. you should do the same and try to see if these people are who you want to work with day in and day out. something tells me, they have a ton of turnover because of their fake culture. they are not half as nice as they pretend to be.

I’m not actually good at stacking. The main thing I do is make sure that I don’t have to put it high. I keep those bags on the bottom.

I want to do both is it possible to do both I think doing one full time and one part time would be good but I've never worked in the airline industry this will be a new beginning a new career I always wanted to be in the airline industry but I have kids and I'm a single parent now my kids are grown and I just think it's time to do me I've noticed that there is a process with this whole hiring thing there is also training and exam do you know what kind of training and questions on the exam might be on there?
It’s going to totally depend upon the airline and station. My station is cross utilized. That means that we are trained for both customer service and ramp. Most stations are not. Many times you have to choose one. So inquire with your station about their protocol. Congratulations on getting hired at both! That is a wonderful accomplishment. Blessings on your new journey!
Do all airlines use sabre for booking. Do you use sabre in your job as a ticket agent?
I do not use Sabre at my current airline.

@@TheBohemianTraveler the wife is Mexican and we travel each year to visit her family near MEX. Delta hub is at MSP and has direct flights. I'm told if I go Southwest, I get deals with Delta, also. Not sure if it's the same deals. They said it would be about $100 each for tickets there. Costs 3k for the 4 of us normally. Can I work just Monday through Thursday? Possibly one day a week? Do you think I might be limited in any way because I'm hired by a 3rd company instead of directly?
Will they actually let me transfer to a different department after 6 months? I want to work as little as possible so I can still work another job at higher pay. $14 an hour is not enough at full time. I do have a few other questions, is there a way I can send you a PM? Sean A I’m not sure about how your schedule will work at your station. I have been able to work 1 day a week for a while with trades and giving away shifts. Hopefully you will be able to manipulate your schedule as well. Yep, $14/hr does not cut it. Tell me your email address and I’ll email you.
Thanks so much for your explanation so my question is that if you are working as CSA fan you choose to be just in the ticket counter or gate ? Or this is all about rotation areas ?
At my station it is supposed to be a rotation. However, some people are more comfortable at gates so they put them at gates more often. Other stations bid for their position. Bidding is based on seniority.

Hi I just got an in person interview scheduled for next week its seasonal as baggage handler/ramp agent do I still receive the benefits of flying for free and health insurance ?
I’m not sure about health insurance. However, I’ve heard that the seasonal workers get travel benefits for Delta. It’s a great gig congratulations!

Generally I don't. Only in irregular situations. But when I do, I just go to my locker, get my vest and get on the ramp. It's not too bad. Oh yes, and take off my scarf. LOL

Depends on the airline. Many people do you want full-time. I know at the place that I’m at now, it’s harder to get full-time shifts and part time.

I’m not sure. It’s gonna depend upon so many factors. I would like to do a video about picking the perfect airline. I hear that Southwest has high job satisfaction, but the great thing about United is that they have so many routes, that when you travel, you don’t have to do a lot of traveling on other airlines. Which one are you leaning towards?

Is Delta a good airline to work for?
had a eye opening experience with them recently. during the cattle call, they just say what you want to hear and sell delta. they interview you pretty hard. you should do the same and try to see if these people are who you want to work with day in and day out. something tells me, they have a ton of turnover because of their fake culture. they are not half as nice as they pretend to be.
I’ve been with the three majors, and Delta is definitely the best in my opinion.
