GREAT! I'm a fan of Mikael and Gunilla since I saw them first time on Hahnweide 1999
Since 2002 I fly planes on my own, but I still dream of a Bleriot XI
Best regards to my flying hero Mikael and his great wife Gunilla

The bleriot was way ahead of its time, the first airplane to begin to take modern shape, and there wouldn't be another monoplane built for 20 years

And you totally forgot Santos Dumond Demoiselle, a predecessor for modern aircrafts.

Robert Esnault-Pelterie, a Frenchman, invented the aileron in 1904, the star engine (radial) in 1906 and the controls as we know them today (stick for ailerons and elevator and pedals for the rudder). He designed and built a monoplane (engine included) and flew it in 1908. Every aircraft manufacturer during WW1 were using his control system. Starting in 1912 he became interested with space exploration. The Russians paid him homage for his work when they put the first satellite (Spoutnik) in orbite in 1957.

Those wings look like they would fold right up if you put too much strain on it, those first Pilots back then were some Brave mofos

The Blériot X1 had no ailerons. It used wing warping. The wings had to be flexible. I agree with you, it took courage to fly in those machines.
