we played with his old band martyr after my set he came up on the stage and shook me with excitement im honoured to know he liked my set and style i retired extreme music well actually i retired music but. .i hold that memorable show close
His words from 13:15 onwards - pure gold. I couldn't agree more, that sound is an instant musical turn-off for me. The drummers with an organic sound are the ones we all talk about, and still talk about in years to come.
Thanks for the amazing interview. My favorite channel for drumming interviews. Saw them perform the whole ep in London (didn't realise it was all one song lol) but haunting, technical and incredible. One of my favorite bands and this guy's drumming - he can do it all for real - is wicked. Cheers!
been lucky to talk a lil' bit with him while he was on tour with Cephalic Carnage ! super nice human being and super incredible drummer !!! thanks for sharing this interview !
I've met patrice a couple times great drummer fantastic human being humble too I opened up for martyr and he approached me after my set he was impressed with my music and I'll hold that close for a long time
Very smart guy and an awesome drummer. I like to call him the ''Stewart Copeland'' of death metal drummer!! He should make a ''Pat work in progress Hamelin'' DVD ;) Tks for making this drumtalk video!!
He's such a technically proficient player. I've seen him do it all honestly the only other drummer that I know of that can play so many different ways is Romain Gulon. That Obscura live video is just incredible, I try to play along and he just leaves me in the dust. But its fun to try.
The part where he talks about the difference between his more brutal bass drum and his smaller jazz bass drum and why he uses them for different parts is the most wonderful thing I've ever heard and I wish more drummers in extreme progressive metal would do that. One that comes to mind is Ne Obliviscaris. Ive seen them live and clicky triggered bass drums don't fit their music in my opinion.
Esti que j'suis content qu'il soit dans Gorguts. Quand il parle de la technologie.. Il a tellement raison. On est rendu dans une air du metal ou la précision et la vitesse est rendu trop intence. Ça crée du metal plate et du faux talent. Be Genuine For fucks sake. GREAT drumtalk.
@@zolikar1 sure, if you come by you can watch it :-) problem is, if I remember correctly, that the audio recording stopped during the show, which is why the Pleiades' Dust clip has only camera sound instead of a board mix. and that's the reason I filmed Gorguts a second time one year later
Patrice is absolutely right. Quantize your music. Your drums and you just lost the groove. I prefer analog to digital too. I’m so glad I watched your interview! Keep on hammering away. I know to do what you do your techniques have to be perfect to play so fast. Or you’ll have a F- - - - - - heart attack! Very cool interview!
He has great spirit and positivity. It's funny how people who play really dark and aggressive music are usually very happy and fulfilled
this comment... :)
Well that's the power of compensation. If you have an outlet for your dark engergy, positivity will occur :D
I dont think its super dark really or aggressive. Its more like a bad acid trip but in a good way.
Gotta appreciate the lack of bullshit from Patrice. Great drummer!
That's the first thing that amazed me in this video. He's so honest, brutal in his honesty actually.
Seems like a very humble a fun guy. I like to see that in metal drummers. You can be in a death metal band AND smile. Cheers, Patrice!
Key from "Key and Peele" sure is Metal
14:13 Damn his sentence about the "grid symptoms" is so fucking on point

Guy Snowden he just described Lars Ulrich on AJFA.

Well y'a l'air d'un criss de bon Jack. Quand les shows vont reprendre j'espère te voir live à Québec
wow, thanks for this! Been a huge fan of his since the Martyr days. he's just sickeningly good. 👍
Warp Zone!!! Fuck they were good...
Super Interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pat is one of the most insanely underrated drummers out there \m/
like his work with Martyr
1:11 "All those basic, trash metal bands." hahahaha
David Choi yeah his accent kinda gave the wrong impression haha
What a positive person! I will listen a bit more of his music...
I tried to write a crazy long comment on how much I love this. But. This guy knows his shit. And is technically amazing as well
Amazing drummer. Beneath the massacre my favorite band of all time!
So Nice that he sound Just like a friend talking about stuff. Humble, friendly.
Love this episode.
Patrice is Phenomenal. I saw him with Martyr in Sherbrooke. Insane Drummer...
Whaaat that sounds so bad ass !! I love Martyr, and a show in Sherbrooke eh? Pretty cool
I saw in drummondville Martyr
love this guy!
So cool he address Colin for the master he is.
Dude is insane.
This guy's the real deal!
been lucky to talk a lil' bit with him while he was on tour with Cephalic Carnage ! super nice human being and super incredible drummer !!! thanks for sharing this interview !
I watched him yesterday, and he is one of the most relaxed players I've ever seen
I've met patrice a couple times great drummer fantastic human being humble too I opened up for martyr and he approached me after my set he was impressed with my music and I'll hold that close for a long time
nice guy, amazing playing!
Excellent interview. What a charismatic guy.
Excellent !!!!!! Thanks for this drumtalk !
clever point of view of this guy
RESPECT!
Man that grip change I fucking love.
I love his voice, and his Blast Bleats
Great video, stay real!
So, you have 2 different size kick drums, with 2 different double kick pedals going to them!!!???? Did I hear that correctly!!!???
It is rare to find individuals who can laugh off on their own limitations, and in a way inspire you to be better yet stay attached to the ground.
I’m surprised Martyr was not mentioned, his work with them was amazing also…
what an awesome guy! much respect!
Powerful interview! Patrice is both inspiring and sensible with his statements. He also looks somewhat like a young Sid Haig. :)
Love me some Patrice.
13:16 that's the real shit right there with the drum fills 🤣🤣

I love that guy
Patrice Hamelin is one of the best ! Thanks for the video !
A quand le prochain album de Martyr ?
Probably never. Dan's focus seems to be on teaching and Voivod.
Incongruous is my favorite album of all time
Cool guy! Quebec drum force! :)
Amazing considering his crippling learning difficulties , really well done :)
A BEAST.
Wow, I didn't know colin marson from behold... the arctopus was in goreguts
cool guy
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Et de lautre coté il faut du talent pour jouer vite.. haha
I wonder if hes making reference to the original Beneath the Massacre drummer
A young Captain Spaulding
Metal. Drummer that play trad grip and single kick are rad af. Thx t this to motivate....
"Close your eyes.... Is it tight?......its tight!" lol
Also love his crtique on production, because before i knew who he was, I thought he was another plastic studio drummer when i heard BTM.
Too ironic.
hehe because never recorded any albums with BTM. But it was a great challenge.
@@patmartyr ahhhhhh. This makes much more sense.
Anyone know where can I find the original live videos showed in this?
yupp, on my hard drive
@@drumtalkofficial Is there an option to watch it?
