    Nice review! I just traded in my RG9 for this exact same bass. I couldn't believe how easy it is to play and having the EQ and active pickups is a definite plus. Keep up the good work. Take care, Sam.

      The EQ and actives are amazing on this bass for the price! The time I put setting it up on arrival was definitely well worth it. I use this one for something almost daily! Thank you for checking out the video Sam!

    Hi,
    Nice bass!
    Can you tell if the bass came with a hand tag of inspection, or was just that sticker of the quality control in the back of the bass?
    Thanks!
    Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘

      Sorry it took me so long to reply! UA-cam didn't notify of your comment D:! It is just a factory QC tag. Unfortunately mine didn't have any indication of further inspection which is probably why it arrived with the action out of order.
      Thank you for watching!

      I got two QC behind both from 2018 but it still had terrible setup

    I played one of these at GC recently and loved it except the J pickup was extremely noisy and the only thing that seemed to remedy it was to simply turn it off. Kinda was a deal breaker for me.

    • @cayetanohuett9037

      Could be that the pickup was set too high just lowering a small amount could possibly make a world of difference

    I have the white one. Love it and all but man its a pain to set up. still working at it. I like the action but I want it a little higher but I'm almost maxed out on bridge room lol. Did you have major fret buzz and have to dress the frets? I'm just looking for tips on this bass.

    • @CoryPlaysBass
      @CoryPlaysBass  3 роки тому +1

      Thankfully I didn't have to do anything major to the frets. There were no signs of sprout and they were actually nicely dressed. The thing did buzz like crazy and it took a few truss adjustments and bridge adjustments to get it JUST right. Now that I've had the bass for about a year, It did end up getting buzzy around the winter time. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@CoryPlaysBass Thanks Cory! I appreciate your help. The only sharp edges are past the neck joint and I have a few popped up but that's easy. I have two Kelly Birds that I had to work on. They still need work still. Mostly replacing parts and fret leveling.

    • @CoryPlaysBass
      @CoryPlaysBass  3 роки тому +2

      @@zackyallen2713 Kelly Birds! I actually have one I was going to review soon. The David Ellefson signature. Were there any problems that were common between the 2 that you noticed? I'd love to have more information!

      @@CoryPlaysBass I have both a JS3 Transparent blue burst and a David Ellefson 5 string. Both have fret buzz but my JS3 is way more controlled. Both have string alignment issues yet I fixed one really easy and are common with all KB's so make sure the bolts are tight. But it doesn't make much of a difference when playing. Both pack a punch and I am replacing my JS3's pickups with DE EMG pickups because I love them so much. Overall, they are great for what I do. I would recommend strap locks too. And the neck on the Ellefson is heavy but the body is basswood and is thinner than usual so it's not terrible. Hope this helps you out too.

    nice job, i got 5 string one with mahogany body (or poplar with mahogany top, Jackson wasn't very specific about it) and mine got terrible setup too with very high action in contrast to yours :D by the way is your bass very noisy when you boost tremble or mids? mine is a bit noisy than my expectations

    • @CoryPlaysBass
      @CoryPlaysBass  2 роки тому +1

      I didn't seem to have that issue so I don't have much advice unfortunately D: you could try changing the pickup height, although I'm not sure if that'll do much, or even check the shielding in the electronics cavity to see if any of the paint flaked off

    • @CoryPlaysBass
      @CoryPlaysBass  2 роки тому +1

      Sometimes that conductive paint flakes off in just the right way to cause a minor annoyance!

    • @cihansimsek1965
      @cihansimsek1965 2 роки тому

      @@CoryPlaysBass The shielding looks okayish with my very scientific 'mobile phone test' :D But still i am planning to make decent shielding when I am going to take it to a good luthier.
      Btw mine got clockwise working pots, probably yours installed wrong way :D
      The material (except the poplar wings which are heavy and cheap) and desing are wonderful but quality control...it is awful!!!
      Still for 500 dolars bass, after a good treatment from a decent luthier this instrument turns into 1000+ dolars worth one!
      By the way how do you find the tone? for me it is bright and midy and i like it :D

    • @CoryPlaysBass
      @CoryPlaysBass  2 роки тому +1

      Oh the tone out of the box is fantastic! The controls are a bit touchy but it's nice to have some extra control over your sound before running it through a preamp. Definitely would buy again!

    Did it need a huge setup before it was payable?

    • @CoryPlaysBass
      @CoryPlaysBass  4 роки тому +2

      It definitely needed some love as far as neck tension went. Buzzed like an angry bee! Getting the action on it was super tedious but as long as you know the basics of tension relief and intonation it doesn't take too too long.
