Top Tier gas is a must for me. Yes, the gas is refined to the basic standard but then the specific detergent packages are added and Top Tier has been tested and proven to clean better and have more cleaning ability. I get the best of both worlds by filling up at Costco. I get the best price and a Top Tier gasoline.

Regarding the 500-foot-long cable: back in the mid 1970's I worked summers for Sears as an A/C tech. I was shown that if you kept the power cord to a heavy unit like a vacuum pump coiled up, the cord would create an electromagnetic flux and it would really heat up. We were told to uncoil them. Imagine how hot a couple of hundred feet of heavy-duty D. C. wire might get if the user only needs half the cord's length, and leaves the rest coiled up. Fire? Warning: this is the way I remember it from 50 years ago. --Old Guy

Yes, that's right, the gas all comes from the same refinery anyway, you showed a Shell station in the intro, I usually buy at Costco because it averages 5c/litre less than the others, try to buy Shell when I'm traveling only because I earn loyalty points there. All the big companies have joined Top Tier. Sunoco was the holdout, but they have upped their quality too. Truck stops, convenience stores, and Walmart still sell minimum spec fuels. Just search online and you will see that Top Tier makes a big difference over time if you keep you cars as long as I do.. Here's a story. My 2005 Ford Explorer had the gas gauge crap out. Pulling the tank and replacing the sending unit is costly. I read on a blog that Top Tier gas would fix it. I began fueling with Chevron only, and within two tanks the gauge worked again. Fast forward a few years. My bride is traveling up and down I-95 caring for patients as an in home RN. She's filling the Ford up a the truck stops. Guess what? The fuel gauge stops working. Back to Chevron and the problem is solved after a couple of tankfulls. Fast forward a few more years. I'm traveling back from New England to Florida and stop at a Buc-ees for lunch and a my last fill up on my way home... Well, they don't sell Top Tier. Before that tankful was burned by fuel gauge stopped working again. I stopped at Costco (Top Tier) to fill up, and by the time I burned that tankful the fuel gauge is working again.I have no explanation as to why minimum spec fuel seizes my fuel gauge, and why Top Tier keeps fixing it gauge other than my experience above. Plus, it keeps your fuel injectors much cleaner. Just search online and you'll find photos and technical results from testing Top Tier against American minimum spec fuels. I will never put anything but Top Tier in my cars again. Heck, it's the same price anyway.

Scotty, you’re right about the grades of gasoline. The difference with top-tier gas is detergent additives which helps keep your injector and cat clean. I know this for a fact had a 2011 Nissan rogue with a PO 420 code added a container of gum out multi fuel, injector, cleanand it didn’t clear the code so I decided to try a tank of the top-tier gas and container multi fuel injector cleaner. Believe it or not this cleared the code and it hasn’t come back since I changed to top tier gas.

Yes I am well aware but back then they made cars so much better. That Camry was solid as a rock and the Japanese made a great product. That car although mangled beyond recognition did what it was supposed to and that was to protect the driver at all cost. Matter of fact they still make a great product. After that car I bought a Tundra and now I am driving a Tacoma. I would only buy Toyota made vehicles and I never heard of a recall for the air bag for Toyota . At least they never notified me with all the Toyotas that I own.

That's not to say a good company like BP that's NOT Top Tier isn't great gasoline as well but you are getting better protection for your GDI engine with Top Tier and that is a proven fact.

Bernie's engine cleaner really work for me
Every video that Scotty mentions Bernie's cleaner I feel like I have to comment
    Recently purchased a 2003 Highlander
Car in Immaculate condition except when sitting for a couple of days on cold start would get a ticking in the engine for about 30 seconds on Startup
Did a few things like changing the oil to high quality appropriate synthetic
Replace the timing belt in all Associated parts
Yeah the cold start engine noise persistent
I then treated the car with Bernie's engine cleaner following Bernie and Scotty's suggested procedure
Now on cold start even after a week of sitting completely quiet
    Could not be happier!!
I also closely monitor my car and there have been no leaks or oil burning issues
Because some people had warned me that the old style motor flushes could cause that type of problem
I was willing to try Bernie's cleaner because Scotty recommended it
And now I recommend it also
For me it worked as advertised

All gasoline sold in the US must meet a minimum standard for detergent. That standard is pretty low. Top Tier requirements are significantly higher. The Conoco station near me is Top Tier and very competitive on price. I don't use off brand "Gas Sale" or "East Coast" gas. I've purchased ethanol free gas for my lawn mower and snow thrower when convenient because the ethanol absorbs water over time and I don't mind paying more for the small quantity.

Um, "heating of wires" is only dependent on current and resistance of the wire (I^2*R), regardless if it's DC or AC. Transmission over longer distance is easier with AC, since you can use transformers to increase/decrease the voltage and decrease the current (thus reducing I^2*R losses). With DC it's much more difficult to change voltage. And DC is susceptible to electromigration, where if the current is high enough, atoms can be dislodged and carried with the current. So in a worst case, one end of the wire will become too small and fail. I agree, "liquid cooling" of wires sounds like a really bad, expensive idea.

Scotty is wrong this time. From AAA's report after they conducted independent tests of Top Tier vs Non-Top Tier gasolines:
"Among brands tested, non-TOP TIER gasolines caused 19 times more engine deposits than TOP TIER brands after just 4,000 miles of simulated driving. Such carbon deposits can reduce fuel economy, increase emissions and negatively impact vehicle performance, particularly on newer vehicles.
Since TOP TIER gasoline is widely available, provides fuel economy and vehicle performance benefits and costs an average of just three cents more per gallon, AAA urges drivers to consider the gasoline when it’s time to fuel up."

    2013 Hyundai Sonata (120k miles)
    2013 Toyota Prius C (195k miles)

The first three were all sluggish and would act strange like they wanted to stall out after coming to a quick stop. Until I ran a few tanks of Top Tier 87 octane gasoline through them.
Cheap gas today is crap. I recall getting gas at a particular Wawa in Baltimore that would cause my Honda Odyssey to throw codes, but if I went down the street to the Royal Farms, the van never complained.

You're exactly correct about additional additives. Have a friend who owns a distribution fuel transmission, and I watch as named brand fuel tankers came in to fill-up. The driver poured an additive into top of tanker once loaded assumed the sloshing around done the mixing prior to delivery; so to believe different read at and gasoline station having you thinking is something special usually is hog wash. Never once saw a non brand named tanker like Triangle or Purity dump anything in their tanker once loaded; so is non brand fuel better, you be the judge as ones usually get what they paid for. As for toyota corolla, I just recently went from Alabama to Miami, and got 34.8 mpg running 75+ in an 04 Toyota. If go to South Florida two things are a must, buy a Sun Pass transponder for Express/tolls. And haul butt because unless like getting finger gestures don't pay any mind to 70 mph speed limits as those folks pass troopers down there running around 90 mph. Seems everyone chose Miami that date, and was like Daytona without the curves.
Almost forgot for toyota owners; it's my belief toyota purposely sets a CEL to activate after 200,000 miles just to get ones to drive-in to Toyota Dealership to get reset when "nothing is wrong" with tge car, just an extra $100 plus Toyota going get from your wallet. Forget the CEL if not flashing. My expensive scanner and friend's scanners show no codes, do the battery reset, changes nothing CEL will return, just drive and forget if not flashing. I have for 257,890 miles runs great. Don't allow Toyota take your grocery money.😮

We have a lot of Wawa conveniece stores that sell garbage gas that I got the worst mileage on. Purchased their gas in Pa., NJ & MD and seldom drive when traffic is heavy, use cruise control whoever possible and perform slow start at red lights. Now only purchase top tier gasoline. The few pennies extra more then made up with better fuel economy. Just had the original brake pads replaced on the front end of my SUV with 49.7K miles.

I have been buying gas at a Buc-ee's gas station here in nearby Daytona Beach, Florida for the past couple of years. It usually has the best price on the area, but I am not sure if Buc-ee's is considered "Top Tier." I have had no issues using their gas, so I continue to use it. The place is huge with 104 gas pumps, and their convenience store is over 50,000 square feet.
Buc-ee's has many gas stations in Texas, and I was wondering if anyone has used their gas, and had any problems with it.

The reason AC can go farther isn't because it goes back and forth, it's because historically AC has been easy to transform to higher voltage and back. At higher voltage it takes less current to carry the same power which means less losses in the wire. Nowadays there are devices that can do the same with DC. Or cars can just be designed to accept higher voltages for charging. There is a limit to this for cables on the ground, cause you can't be handling cables above a certain voltage, even when insulated (insulation breaks down at a high enough voltage), but this limit applies to AC too. So basically AC won't fix anything for charging cables. It really only helps for long distance transmission lines, like those on high power poles or buried underground, and even for those sometimes DC high voltage is used nowadays.

If people only saw how gas is distributed, I lived where a large depot was the raw gas was delivered by a pipeline to large storage tanks then the local tanker hauling for any brand ( contract ) would pull to a load station tell them what gas brand to mix up the raw gas is then mixed with what additives were required from bulk tanks and voilà there’s your gas . When the large storage tanks get low they sell to off brands because there may be sediments or the quality is low but if supply problems everybody get it .

I have a great deal of respect for your opinion, Scotty, but this one I'll have to disagree.
A few years back, when I first heard of top-tier gasoline, I found some selling top tier. I ran to almost empty (from a well-known outlet), then filled with the same grade gasoline, from Shell, and other top tier outlets (some brand name gasoline, some top tier outlets). From the gas I had been buying (I averaged 46 mph on a motorcycle). When I filled at Shell regular, I got 49mph. Subsequent fill ups at other top tier outlets, brought 49 - 50.9 mph. Tests with my Pontiac Montana yielded similar results, from 16-17mph to 19 mph even over 20 occasionallywith the top tier gasoline!
Scotty, top tier gas is better, and it is worth it!

Just the oil and filter changes and taking it in for recalls. Recently the check engine light came on and it was diagnosed with a knock sensor condition. Is it worth spending upwards of $800 to fix it? Is the car still safe to drive with this condition? Otherwise the car still runs great.

    @flyer617 5 місяців тому

At the same current, there is no difference in cable losses between AC and DC (actually AC will have ever so slightly more losses due to skin effect, but it is really minimal at 50-60 Hz). For the same amount of power, higher voltages require lower currents, so the highest voltage on a given cable will result in the lowest losses. AC level 2 chargers typically use 208-240 volts and DC charging is more typically 325-350 volts so DC would have the advantage there. Liquid cooled cables have been around for quite a while, they use an antifreeze mix which is very similar to that used in cars. Liquid cooling allows the cable to be thinner for its power carrying capability. they are pretty robust, I have seen them run over without harm although if it were mine I wouldn't do that since they are not cheap and cannot be spliced. Besides cost, the power limit on a residential DC fast charger is due to your electric service. If you had a dedicated 200 amp, 240 volt service for just the charger, NEC (electrical code) says you can go up to 80% of that which is just over 38 kW. That's not bad but nowhere near the 150, 250 or 350 kW charging from commercial DC fast chargers which typically use 480 volt 3 phase power connections.
