I am doing a Victorian Christmas this year too. I went with. Burgundy color, no red. I added nutcrackers, ballerina, rocking horse, silhouette portraits in gold frames, small beaded coin purse, pocket watches, paper doll clothes, even some playing card like queen of hearts. I also purchased the clip on battery operated candles. I also have a cone shaped feather tree. Love your ideas.
I just love "Victorian" anything! Thank you for such a lovely video. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Sending kind regards from the Yarra Valley (where we are experiencing summer temperatures of 41 degrees), Australia.
We were still using most of these ideas in England in the 1960s. We had a table-top tree (maybe 4') decorated with small blown glass colored balls and foil-wrapped chocolate ornaments. The tree also had foil garland and a single string of maybe 50 fairy lights. Paper streamers were suspended between the room corners and the central light fixture. Christmas cards were perhaps the most important part of the decor. The room had pelmets; narrow shelves above the windows that hid the curtain rods. We put the cards we received all along these shelves. In later homes without pelmets we made the cards into garlands to string them up. Special foods were displayed either on a sideboard or as a table centerpiece. We did NOT put gifts under the tree; there was not enough room to have gifts out for days on end. The only elements of this that survive in my American house are the chocolate ornaments (cheap and nasty from Aldi or expensive from World Market) and the food on the sideboard. The centerpiece will be the homemade fruitcake, which we will ice a few days ahead of the Day and keep under a glass dome. No one sends cards any more, which is a shame as we used to repurpose them by cutting small pieces out of the fronts for use as gift tags the following year.
Now it's e-cards and emoji's if you're prone enough to receive one. Albeit some of those animated Chrstmas tree Gif's are mesmerizingly catchy and creative. But we all know, that it's really all in what you express and pour out through your words in the card that touches the heart esp. towards your parents. Well, at least with mine, this is the time when I'm able to thank them profusely for being, well, "my parents". And not to diminish the aesthetic importance of decor during the holidays, in fact, it's the precursor, isn't it? The colors, scents (in fact, sipping on clove-doused tea as we speak, oohh that smell) is what derives within me a spiritual introspection that exudes unlimited appreciation, love, and a unifying desire for all. You sit with these thoughts and warm-fuzzies while loved one's are corralled around you. Each of whom are probably thinking and feeling the same thing.
A month ago I clicked on one of your RenFair/LARP videos. I enjoyed it and went back and watched all od them. Then on a whim I started watching your decor videos. I've never had an interest in decor or interior design, but again I enjoyed it, watched another, then another, and so on. I find your style to be intreguing, easy to watch, your voice pleasant. Also your explainations and references makes the whole subject of the video entertaning. So I suscribed. Thanks and I'm looking foreward to more videos.
We went with a dark academia tree this year - a big change from the Gatsby theme for the last eight years. Now for the rest of the house in the New Year.
I don't usually decorate w' food because hungry around this time the year, but in 5th grade the other kids brought in stuff for gingerbread houses the classroom and I completely forgot t' mention the supply gather t' the mom and had no candy and such for any housebuilding project and just walked around the class a bit mooching odd items and thinking THIS BETTER THAN HALLOWEEN HAUL and YOU'RE ALL WASTING IT!!!!!! Um, but they wouldn't part w' much but I recall one specific Hershey Kiss as the highlight and probably some M&Ms somebody neigh completely stingy????
Them Victorias ne'er had any Charlie Brown stuff. I still want more the Ralphie-Story Era my speed a bit? My dog wins First Prize and they send him a Leg Lamp a bit........... har har. Also, Island o' Mifsit Toy was on last nite.

My house was built in 1900, and I would love Victorian Christmas decor.
Pomanders! We've been making those for years, absolutely love the scent.

I forgot the crackers, which were on the table for Christmas lunch and usually again on Boxing Day (the 26th).
