I made the food prep commitment years ago and have gradually built up my arsenal of canning and dehydrating items. I scrounge thrift stores for useful items like prep bowls, big pots, kettles, trays etc. I now have 3 dehydrators, 2 are Excalibur, 1 is a 6 tray, the other is about 11 trays) and 1 is a Nesco which I also love for being so flexible and to stack how ever many trays are needed. We have a large garden now so canning tomatoes, freezing peppers, zucchini, berries keeps me busy. It took me several years to get a nice set up including a dehydrating station and pantry. Its one of those things that anyone can do gradually and start small if they need to. You can take advantage of good sales and can or freeze great hauls of fruits and veggies. Its become a hobby and a passion for me. I love this simple back to basics life. Check out you tube for many dehydrating vids.
good advice.. my grandma had a nice back yard garden and canned food all the time... I would say 50% or more of the food she ate came from the garden.. and store bought food was mostly meats or things she just did not grow...
yes, it's what people did - eat from their garden! It's nice to see many people returning to those ways.
You're truly amazing! A wonderful real explanation on things! Thank you!
WOW!!!!! JUST WOW!!!! So much information for the entire year. EXCELLENT ADVICE AND MORE!!!!!
Thank you for this video. It was well done. I am new to preserving and need encouragement.
This was beautiful! We have a big canning pot and just acquired a food dehydrator. I agree that the trial and error method is probably the best teacher but seeing another person’s pantry and equipment was really helpful here. Really appreciate the planning and calendaring advice as well. Thank you!
Love this. Thank you so much.
Excellent video, thank you for sharing it :)
Very good advice 😀..starting my own.. gameplan too 😀
We’ve been doing our pears green lol, thanks for the info. So I need to put them in a brown paper bag for a few days till they turn yellow. Thanks
Hey Roxy it looks exactly like mine and mine is a Harvest Maid. I have 9 stacks that I can dry at one time. The house smells awesome when you are drying fruit lol.
Hugs
Michelle
Please. Can you do more canning/ preservation tutorials please?! And thank you so much for this video.
aw man wish i had all that space to grow stuff..
Mine was expensive when we bought it about 20 years ago but they are a lot dearer now.
Wow, very nice set up. Can you tell me what brand your dehydrator is? And would you care to share your Dilly Bean recipe or do you have a blog?
Love your video
+Nancy Elswick Thanks!

.
Thanks, Michelle! I've always wanted one but the price range is either too low or too high.
Oh yes thats the life I want .
where did you purchase the plastic containers for you dry goods?
How you make your syrup ??
but how did she preserved them and how long does it last before going bad
Its an American Harvester I believe. Anything with an heating element at the base, an open center to allow air to filter through and slotting shelves would be the best. My dilly beans are from Linda Ziedrich's Joy of Pickling - a great book but its a fairly common approach. I do blog at culinate(dot)com under the "dinner guest" section but you can find out more about my writing and work at preserve(dot)com.
the kinda woman that makes you fell safe at home
would it be possible where you are to store your canned goods in a cellar instead of a refrigerator to cut on costs?
+Michelle Miyazato Did you see at 5:42 she takes her canned goods down into her cellar and talks about where she stores the canned goods (from boiling water bath or pressure canning methods)? Vacuum-packed or freeze dried food items may need to be frozen.
"The pears plummet to their pear demise."
So they... *puts on sunglasses*
Perish?

way to go and keep that saying in your head
