i have tried these caps. they are like how you would use an airbrush. I think it's how familiar a person is with new tools, it takes time to get used to them.
I was thinking the same. So.. i am used to using an iwata eclipse airbrush, not spray paint, but it seems that someone who is used to a dual action airbrush, like myself, may feel that this cap is more natural for them to use if they are just learning to paint with cans. With dual action airbrush pull back controls paint volume and push down controls air volume. Completely independent of each other. Spray cans cant be controlled like that - it is more like a single action airbrush. Doke is an expert at cans already so it just doesn't make sense for him to retrain his hand.
this cap is like an NYC Fatcap, with the difference that you can not push it and the “tilting” just makes more pain in the wrist. I tested them too and decided not to make a video. 😂
I paint mainly with brushes watercolor, oil paint & acrylic and the transitions of this caps reminded me when you’re good at oil painting & want to transition to watercolor … the brush strokes & hand motions are completely different. I think this caps make you focus on your technique more & don’t allow you to use short cuts.
@@coreartalex6708 I was just going to say this. Respect to both SMOE and DOKE as they are both obviously really really good artists and content creators ! But maybe this cap just takes a little more time getting used to. Imagine if you had this cap first all these years. I wonder if the old cap would make much sense maybe kind of “basic” 🤔 just some thoughts haha
Agree, These cups give very nice and interesting lines. I think it would be cool to use them in places where you need some contrast in lines. And yes, I imagine these cups might fit very good for calligraphy stuff. For example, for modern calligraphy.
If these caps had some sort of pressure control, like a protective ring or something that prevents from pressing too hard, these would be a next level caps.
I haven't used them, but I can see in quick situations ("illegal" lol), having a variety of sprays, with out changing tips, would be handy! 2-3 cans, one type of tip, with practice, could get yo piece bombed up quick!
Not really needed though since you got your different caps loaded for outline fill etc and you can squeeze thinner lines out of fatter caps with probably the same amount of practice as it would take to get used to this
Probably should have at least two versions on the cap small to medium medium to large Otherwise as you can see just getting the pressure right can be a pain
that’s just how I feel all the time trying to do stuff like this. feels like I have 0 control, and I’m always nervous doing anything at all. maybe it’s just something that you need to take time to get used to, since you’re so used to normal caps.
Switching from single action airbrushes to dual action is hard and needs a lot of hours. It seems to be same with these, that is dual action cap. If one would master it, how good then? I remember those feelings when I started airbrushing, too much trigger pull and spidering paint😅
I feel like a lot of UA-camrs, because they are filming themselves, must feel a lot of pressure to get things very right the first time, but do not worry! We are here for the journey 😁 the practice and the learning!
awww!!!!!!!!!!!! that's all in one nozzle (cap) IS ALL THAT!!! Thanks for posting this video and sharing your knowledge in the art of Spray painting... love your work and dedication to graffiti may all your endeavors be fruitful.
It's an interesting proposition, as you've done hundreds to thousands of pieces with traditional caps your muscle memory/technique may just be too hard wired into yourself to quickly adapt to a different mechanic. However I personally really enjoy your works & content for the fact you constantly try to break your norms and try new styles & challenges. So your ability to adjust is probably considerably higher than average, but regardless you gave it a fair shake and made a solid piece & video. I couldn't ask for anything more and I'll keep coming back for the next one. Keep up the great work👍.
I think it's one of them " the more ya practice with it the better you get" remember when you first started spray painting, you had to keep working at it. Love the video, keep it up
i’ve seen other youtubers do videos on caps like these but this is definitely the best one! it is good that you were honest about how you truly felt about the caps. thank you so much for another great video and all my love is sent your way. 💙🇺🇦
So essentially the new cap works more like an airbrush. Very cool! Thanks for sharing. One cap to rule them all... Also, it must be said that muscle memory for you is not something that is going to go away in a day. Like all new, more intricate things it takes time to master. It's hard to beat something that pretty much already does the job and you have so many hours of use with.
Maybe they can design and implement a restrictor of some kind. It can limits the pull back and be able to switch to between thin and fat. Sort of the reverse of a gas pump handle
Can you show us how to make paintings on glass. What paints to use and how to varnish them for long lasting pieces. no clear videos online about this. Up to the task?
I love the character you did. :) Would be nice to see more like this :D And I love bloopers. :D I could watch a whole video of it. xD Pretty curious what you're up to in NYC. :D See ya next week. :)
These caps remind me a lot of flexible nib fountain pens. The pressure applied changes everything. Maybe the way to make this cap more accessible / easier for fine control is to have a variant of the cap with a more rigid body (i.e. you need to apply more pressure to get it to go from thin to fat spray; this is something you see in flexible nibs as well). I think these still have a lot of potential and will likely have a steeper learning curve getting the muscle memory and confidence that goes along with it for the various widths this cap can produce. If you can stomach it, I would love to see more content with these caps/hear any more feedback on how you think your control develops, if any.
Seems like it employs similar mechanics as a dual action air brush. There’s definitely a learning curve. I’d like to see you make future videos after you’ve had some time with the new cap system.
I'm no artist but have had experience with spray cans...I see the idea is great but could do with a control say to reduce the amount you press=less spray for thin lines etc So maybe just two settings full and fine could be a little tab to choose 🤔 just an idea they could take on board
They would definitely have their applications but not something I'd use consistently or for every piece. I can definitely see they would be great for characters and backgrounds.
Im by no means good at any of this, but maybe the problem with control has not only to do with not being used to it, but because in the same travel distance of a regular cap, youre now going through the entire spectrum of cap sizes. So you would need surgical precicion to get your desired result.
hey doke try the silver trick take a montana spray paint black stopper grind the plastic circle down to about 1 ish mill you get hex trick lines ...peace bro with a grey dot nib,,,,
Hey my brother from another mother, I think you need to praxis more with the new cup. You compare something that you used for a lot years to something that you think used for the first time and aspect the same result. I think it's deserve more praxis, but you need feels comfortable with it on the end. Big hug you are on fire I love your style!
Im a complete newb, I've never done any graffiti - although I have spray painted a few things like some Honda radio bezel, interior trim pieces and 3 sets of wheels (12 wheels) So I've never done anything even remotely close to what y'alls have, that being said- could it be a muscle memory issue? I just got my first two graffiti type cans of paint 3 days ago, haven't tried them yet though. Waiting for my next day off to give it try, like I said I have never done anything like graffiti before so I don't even know where to start. Maybe somebody wants a fresh canvas, well I'm open to absorbing all of the knowledge, wisdom, technique styles that all of the experienced (old heads) want to pass on! Any suggestions for an honest to goodness legit graffiti newb/virgin would be greatly appreciated!
Great Charactor !! And really Fun graffiti at the school !!! ...do both / combine / ... a character spraying your tag in NY ... on a train.... hahaha!! Good Stuff !!
It would be interesting if there was some type of switch or other mechanism on the cap that could act as a depth stop or limiter for the amount of pressure. So maybe when you press in one place it will go full speed but if you press in another place it will be blocked from going past half speed, something like that. But for a little cap like this, maybe not a practical way to incorporate that, having the one hinge is probably hard enough to make.
Maybe if they added a little more resistance in the cap so it's easier to get that in between pressure you were struggling with idk. Also I'll say my dad custom painted motorcycles with an airbrush my whole life. His control is absolutely crazy with it maybe you just would have to get more used to it
For a easier time Add a small rubber o ring under the cap before installing that will limit how Much you can depress the cap. This will set it to different thickness . If you get different thickness o rings you can really adjust it and the rings should be all you’d need to improve the design
my point of view is this, as I see it has the same system of an airbrush the more you pull back the more loose paint, so for those of us who already understand that system because we do airbrushing together with the fact that we also have a good spray management I don't think it's so complicated it doesn't look so difficult it's just a matter of practice hopefully it won't take long to get to mexico to try it
If you ask me, it's more trouble than it's worth Sure, it's better objectively, but it needs getting used to, and anyone starting out will obviously be used to the normal caps. Muscle memory is an amazing thing. When you do a certain thing for so long and then switch to something else, it can be very foreign. Imagine someone who learned how to ski at a young age and then as an audit they strapped on a snow board. Technique as they know it is gone. Sure the basics are still there but the application is totally different. All this to say, one day of using something different is not a good indicator that something is good or bad. It would take commitment to re-learning technique for you to present an actual honest review of this product. You may end up with the same results, but one go around is far from a good test.

I found that cap around 2 month ago and I'm hyped to try it. It's like a double action airbrush. I believe it needs a lot of can control.
The the caps are boss nice work glad he finally made them n got them out!! One love from Perth
Or add a lil gromit around under the cap too makes it so u cant press so much

Awsumm, she looks really good! Glad your sticking to your creativenesses! Have fun in NYC. Don't forget to see the statue of liberty!
The bending feature reminds me of the spraycaps on whipcream cans x'D
Are you part of an event in New York or are you just doing some collaborations? Would love the opportunity to see you paint in person.
Definitely airbrush inspired. Keep digging, you may end up really liking it once the muscle memory kicks in
perhaps if the cap had an extended back that could be pushed on. then it could work. it would be more comfortable

Pretty curious what you're up to in NYC. :D See ya next week. :)
it should have a small lever for more control. it makes a bigger travel so smaller ajustmets can be made on pressure.
Doke where do you buy ur spray paint?
Looks like there is a learning curve, the more you use it the more you become familiar with it you should keep practicing with it💯❤🔥🔥🌠🌌
