Roses and Neurographic Art to Relax and release Your Creativity | Loose Watercolor Floral Bouquet

  • Today I decided to start my painting session with another neurographic exercise. I found a different approach described on UA-cam - there is so much variation out there in how to do this technique, most of which have gone a long way from the original methods, and which, to tell the truth, I find more appealing. So today I got out my brush pen set from Poetique and set to making another version of this relaxing and inspirational art form.
    Many of us, myself included, struggle with loose flowers. There are so many things that can go wrong. At least, that’s what we tell ourselves. But if we loosen up first with a neurographic exercise, or some other kind of warm up, the challenges seem more like fun than trauma. After all, it’s only a sheet of paper, isn’t it!

    Wow, your floral painting is gorgeous. Love watching how you can flick paint here and there and make your painting pop. I enjoy neurographic art too, but hadn’t thought about it as a warmup. Don’t know how you manage to keep great tutorials coming, but I am so glad you do!

Painting in stages, come back and see what can be done to improve. Good strategy to follow. Thank for sharing. 😊wim

    Thank you, Diane. This was such a relaxing video. I love the idea of brush pens for the neuro art. I have done it with a sharpie. It's very time consuming and slow, meditative process, which I think it's supposed to be LOL I like your way of drawing the shapes first and the speeding it up a bit. I have watched tons of videos on this and some of them are sooooo slooooow. I'm having an idea of using Brusho with the neuro art, sprinkling the colors either before and then doing lines, or sprinkling after doing the lines. I think it might take the "stress" of choosing colors out of the process. Loved the flower painting too. I find your voice very calming and soothing and I love your humor. We're in the same age range, and I can imagine us sitting at a table together, having a girls night and painting the night away.

      Hi Renée, and thank you so much for your lovely comments! As usual it does feel as if we’re having a chat around the kitchen table! I so appreciate your loyal and supportive involvement in the channel. Your suggestions are great and I will try to incorporate them as we go along. I’m a bit wary of Brusho because it gets everywhere! But I’m sure I’ll get used to it! I have put up the sketch for you of the flowers that you wanted to paint, the forget me nots. I hope you enjoy doing it ❤️

      @@DianeAntoneStudio I tried with Brusho and it was a mess. The first one I did all the neuro stuff first. Then when I did the Brusho, all my lines activated with the water and ran all over the place. Second attempt, I did the Brusho background last night and the neuro lines today. It's got to be the ugliest background ever LOL I think I'll stick to doing the lines first, then coloring the sections, but not with Brusho!

    What an enjoyable way to spend time ... with you, Diane ... just listening, watching, making connections, etc. I, too, have been playing around, and learning, a lot with neurographic art recently, in tandem with doing the 100 Day Challenge focusing on watercolors. I am learning sooo much and enjoying applying various watercolor techniques to my neuro art. I use Micron pen to draw my lines and shapes, so no bleeding when I watercolor. I do however love the idea of using brush markers to speed up the process and get more warming up & relaxation out of the process.
    Thank you so much for inviting us into your creative space. Really inspiring!!

      @@DianeAntoneStudio The 100 Day Challenge is an artist-driven challenge to focus on one creative task per day for 100 days. It helps us to focus and challenge ourselves to show up every day. See #100daychallenge for lots of examples. For me, it's helped me focus more on watercoloring. Last year, I did hundreds of 2-3" abstract circles (mandalas, floral, etc). Someday I'll get some of them mounted!

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  2 роки тому +1

      Oh, thank you! I was worried about that aspect of the composition, especially as I had set out with two things in mind - the painting would have a variety of colours and the roses would vary in size. Neither of those things happened!!! Sometimes a painting just insists on being painted differently to what you intend!!!

    • @firechick561
      @firechick561 2 роки тому

      @@DianeAntoneStudio That's interesting bc I was struck by your variety of color...the red in the roses & leaves is striking & drew me in & then I noticed the different hues of green & had to study it to see if there was a pattern to which colors you chose. : ) IMO you accomplished your goal, just maybe in different elements than you planned!
      I have seen another UA-camr ( Kristy Rice) who uses so many colors, especially in her leaves. I am drawn to all the subjects you paint as we were dairy farmers w/ assorted animals , but I was surprised that I liked her 'fantasy florals'. Your leaves reminded me of that, only yours are natural, which I really love.

    Loved your video! Such a good point about creating your own art instead of copying someone else’s. I don’t quite have the confidence to do that yet but as you said you just have to take a risk because that’s where your own magic is.

    Very, very pretty and inspiring. It is a good reminder for us to paint in our own unique way.
    Your "circles" made me think it would be a great way to keep your previously chosen colors for palettes rather than the usual small rectangles. How pretty can that be when you’re wondering what colors to use for a painting!

    Hello
    I think sketching some neuro art and coloring in is a great idea for warm up. Lately I’ve wanted to do something while the TV is on in the background. I have trouble sitting with idle hands(I usually knit but am between projects). Anyway, I’m going to give it a try. Also thanks for the Art quote a wonderful one to remember. Thanks Diane.

      That’s a great idea Kim, and you really will benefit from it I’m sure. I knit too because I can’t stand having idle hands but sometimes my fingers need a rest! The neurographic art technique is ideal. Particularly good with the brush pens. Have fun!😊

    That was really nice to watch, I love painting florals.
    I know what you mean by being afraid of mucking up a piece of work half way through by continuing further, I go through this almost all the time, sometimes I have to stop to take a break and gather up my courage to re start.
    I love this khadi paper it's possibly my favourite watercolour paper.

      Thank you so much! I could have stopped painting about halfway through the process and the result would have been pretty, but I wouldn't have learnt anything. Wow! Using a brush is so much faster than using a ink pen. I JUST saw this the other day ago on Let's Make Art and gave it a try. It IS fun and kinda relaxing. And as you j7st sa8d....a fine liner is a harder way to go and doesn't look as nice. She said a Sharpie w9rks well, but mine was dried up as was my other water proof pen so I ended up using a black ballpoint pen....don't recommend it, it just didn't look right. I know there isn't a right or wrong, but it was wrong hahaha. I totally agree with your views on Twitter and social media in general, very destructive

    Beautiful. I have a question. As a beginner, if i want to upgrade my paper or my paint but could only do one, which should I upgrade first? Thank you.

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  Рік тому +1

      Hi Kim, I would always say paint before paper. I am recommending for beginners the Kuretake set of 48 colors which you’ll find here amzn.to/3EtMezY My reason for recommending this set is that not only is it inexpensive (48 colors including two metallics for around $40) but the colors are great, very intense, and most importantly they dry the same color they are when they are wet. So many people get disappointed by watercolors and switch to acrylics because the bright colors fade back when dry. This makes it very difficult to create a vibrant painting. Kuretake solves that problem. Also, these paints work well on any paper, even copier paper takes them, and you will find they mix and blend well too. So I would suggest you get a set of those and then buy watercolor paper which is not cotton, but cellulose or bamboo instead. As a beginner you don’t need to spend a fortune on materials, just to get the right ones! Here’s a suggestion for paper suitable for learning using my techniques amzn.to/3Kq40I5 There are many others you might like to try but I would start with the inexpensive but tried and tested Strathmore (if you are in the States that is.) Hope this helps, best wishes for happy painting, Diane xx

    You make it look too easy. I was fortunate to find several sketch books that have khadi paper from India. I haven’t used them yet as I want them to be coffee table books eventually with watercolor paintings I do.

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  2 роки тому

      Looks can be deceiving! What a lucky find - are they older sketchbooks? Don’t do what I did though and save a nice sketchbook for a point in the future that never came! The sizing in the paper can deteriorate over time. That would be a shame. Thanks again for your support.
