This is soooooooo good. The sticking might seem "simple," but keeping it clean is NOT so simple. I hate when drummers dog on Travis Barker. The dude is no joke. On top of that, he's always trying to be "helpful" to other players. I really appreciate this video, because it makes me want to grab a pad, and just work on getting it clean.
I met Travis at Warped Tour 1999, he was hanging out side of stage on the ground doing rudimentary snare drum warmups, traditional grip at an insane tempo. He was originally a marching band snare drummer and it really shows, drum line was and still is some of the best forms of percussion with the most advanced stuff. Chad Sexton from 311 is also a drum line player from back in the day.
I finally came across someone who also recognized Chad Sexton and Travis Barker and their roots in drum line. You can really see it. Even though 311 and Blink are different. You can see/hear that level of training.
Alex Tom writes really good melodies and he is unique and creative when it comes to riffs, especially on his solo work. He sure wasn’t the best player in their earlier live performances but there is a lot to appreciate in his playing!

Watching this at 5am and I don’t even own drum sticks yet! Gotta wait a few hours until the store opens. I’ll be back Travis! 😀🙌
How is it going now after 1 year?
LOVED this Thanks 👌🥁🏴
Hey thanks alot bro. I was scrolling through UA-cam bored af and saw this and loved it. Definitely helped out alot. Always wondered what your mind is like playing the drums. Do more!
Travis, what is your mind like? What do you think about when you play? I'm sure by this point you don't do as much counting as you did in the beginning, am I right? For those who want to learn...will counting become a "without thought" process as you increase your skill level?
Thank you so much for this lesson! I’m just starting lessons WAY late in life. This is so helpful to get me going!!! 🎉🎊🥰
You are a really amazing drummer since I heard you on the first blink album you did, good exercises thanks man
Travis is such a great Inspiration. One of the greatest 💪
One of my favorite shows was seeing Blink in Milwaukee and Travis's drumset flipped upside down and he played the entire song that way. What a beast.
There is a reason why Travis is so greatly sought after by other artists for drumming. He indeed is a well oiled time keeper with excellent chops.

Say what you want about Blink, but this dude is a machine.
WOWZA...thank you SO much for such a great lesson and taking the time out for us....Travis you ARE A GOOD DUDE!!!!!!!
I’m primarily a guitar player but this dude really makes me wanna learn how to play the drums
Hi , i was since I was 10 , At 35 I saw him play Dammit live on UA-cam and just had to buy a set of drums and have a go...
After a year now Iv self taught and Iv never looked back . Best thing I ever did was learn the drums . Still have the acoustic guitar mind .
The adrenaline after playing a song from start to finish is amazing .
Hope you have a go at some point it’s so much fun 👍🏻
Yeah dude same here
Same
Been playing 20 years, great lesson there is always more to learn and different perspectives to contemplate
Is it just me that loves the sound of the sticks hitting the pad? 🤣
Love it, man! This stuff is simple, but gold! Travis, you're the best!
Travis Barker - 200BPM is a great tempo for medium-fast rock.
Literally everybody else in the world - This is our last song for the concert, and it’s the fastest at 200BPM.
Travis - I remember you from the Drumline at FOHI (I think that you were a sophomore...). Great to see you teaching those basics! You were a thoughtful and diligent student and your success speaks for itself. Keep it up!
Where you his teacher or something? Tell more
"a little faster"
200 bpm is 'medium fast'
@@Fev333r Doing music videos to your songs are a bit difficult cause of the pace of your drumming😂 I love the challenge though
@@Fev333r what's "fast fast"? :D
"a little more volume"
Wow 😳 being in band as a kid. I looked up to him!
