In this episode, I begin from Brant Conservation Area and paddle to Chiefswood Park, located within the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nations reserve. My total paddling distance was 41.7km, which is the furthest I've ever solo canoed in a single day. I paddled under 7 bridges including the Lorne Bridge (Colborne St W), the Brant's Crossing railroad bridge (formerly the Brantford, Norfolk, & Port Burwell Railway, now used by the Dike trail), the TH & B Railway Bridge (now used by the Dike Trail), Veterans Memorial Parkway, the Cockshutt Bridge (Erie Ave), Phelps Rd, and Chiefswood Rd. This portion of the river also include a 14km Oxbow! As I paddled through the heart of Brantford I pulled the canoe over to the side of the river so I could get a sneak peak at Brantford and stop at Tim Hortons. The municipalities I paddled through include the City of Brantford, Brant County, and Six Nations of the Grand River.

Many moons ago, a friend and I paddle downstream on Grand River(Hwy6) and had a picnic on an island. When it was time to go back, both of our might could not move the canoe upstream an inch. Had to go to someone's house and asked for help. The guy was so nice and drove us back to our truck. Great memories...

Thanks! It was a really enjoyable trip and also a lot of fun to learn about some of the history. It would have been really neat to have seen the Grand back in the mid 1800's when there were steam ships traveling up and down it.

Congratulations on the new solo paddling distance record! That's really interesting information about the Six Nations. I've never been to that area of Ontario, so I'm not very familiar with some of the history. A bingo hall would be an interesting place to eat at, but if it serves food than why not!
