This rocked my world. We had just decided 2 days ago to go without screens for a week because we had alllll those red flags and knew it was time. Our biggest issue was the scripting. I’m praying we see that creativity come back for my 10 year old son especially
My son is experiencing speech delay and I never thought that screen time could be a factor. He is almost 3 but is consumed by his tablet. He has been tested and scored high on every area but expressive language which is baffling. I started researching myself and saw numerous studies on screen time and language delay. I have removed the tablet and I am confident that I will begin to see a big difference. I am also incorporating meaningful interaction and activities to foster his creativity and language development. Wish me luck! I am optimistic 😊😊😊 Thank you for your insight
Not to tell you how to raise your son but you have literally given your child that's not even 3 years old a tablet?! And let him use it so much that he is consumed by it!? Why?
Can’t speak for OP but I work from home and am juggling a full-time job, while caring for a toddler, and everything else that life entails. Sometimes you need help and tablets keep them occupied and happy while you are busy. I agree that it isn’t best, that’s why I am watching videos like this one, but please don’t judge 😭
I was totally expecting you to mention the behavior and attitude issues as number one. So true. And simultaneously I thought, man we as adults display much of the same negative behaviors! Then at the end you addressed that- very true! We (I) need to examine myself and my own habits and attitude 💙👍
I am almost adult. I do try to cut my screentime back. I have done two days below 5 hrs of screentime. I am just slow cut back. I don't have anyone at my age to play in my neighborhood and the 3 are in elementary or below. I am special needs too. In fact , I did my research essay on screen time in 12th grade.
My 12 year old has been a huge problem with his screen time since we met him. It has been a massive challenge as he's adjusted from foster care to a real family (we're talking years, not months or weeks). Unfortunately, my 8 year old just started to behave in the same BS ways. She just said, "I did all that work for nothing??" When she was told that there isn't time for TV today because it was already dinner time. We're to the point now that I'm going to get rid of ALL the TV cords if they give me any of the BS again.
I think most of this is a bit of bs, like some teenagers will want to be on a screen to interact with others, sometimes a screen can be an only eay to make friends or interact with friends you know. I wish this would be acknowledged.
Can this be reversed? My child has all these symptoms. I have worked from home almost her entire life and she would be home with me which I feel like crap about but my anxiety would not allow me to put her in daycare at the time. So she would be in front of her laptop or tablet to keep her busy while I was working . I’ve decided to take it away for a while but I just hope I’m not too late for her development
Love this video so much! The best video on screen time. You dont attack anyone or make parents feel guilty! Hope this video gets more views. I do quite a lot of content on screen time on my channel as it does do positive within our home! 🥰❤(will shout out this video in my next video... its too good)
YES!!! So spot on! Its so funny, while listening to "kids" part, I was already drawing lines for myself lol and THEN you said it 😂 yup definitely need to revisit "screen time" priorities in our family. Thanks so much!
We just remove all screen time that isn't for school or family movie/show time for at least a week but up to a month. After that we allow screen time back in for a certain amount of time each day or week.
I agree with this answer ^. When I begin punishment for bad behavior, I begin with the screens... (I have never had to remove them all for more than a week) it makes a huge difference when my son goes even a day without. Screen time is a reward, and it is important that he remember he does not need them. He has gotten better, as he gets older (about to turn 9), at self imposing breaks, but sometimes he begins to get hooked. His behavior reflects over use, just as described in the video. Usually when you first begin the initial "detox", it can seem like their world is ending. Just make sure you stick to it for the amount of time you set, and be consistent. I think it is also important to explain to them, and engage in an open dialog about why you have made this decision. Many families who aren't religious have their own hiatus they will impose on a regular basis (similar to the religious Sabbath, where they will abstain from all electronics for the 24 hour period every week). I prefer to use my current method (just removing as a punishment) because my husband would never honor or be on board with being told he could not watch TV or use his phone... is what it is.
@@yorkie_gacha5364 im a kid and because my laptop i might get into mensa. well, like she said if you are using too much screentime, you become less creative, thats just dumb. screentime gave me a purpose to think, physics. well i am too young to actually say that im a phycisist, but i do want to be one in the future. .it is true that you will fall behind, it is just how you use the device.
Love your content - we're thinking of homeschooling ourselves with 4 and screentime is SooOOooo hard to avoid!! Assign him creative things to do.
I'm all for science, but sometimes a little common sense goes a long way. Great vid!

well, your son might have autism since poor launguage is a huge symptom of autism.

Great advice, I’m a teenager assessing myself.
Getting major therapist/counsellor vibes from this hahaha love it!
I am impressed. Keep up the self-care. It’s hard being a teenager. Sending you love and respect.
Each child is different and these are great things to look for in our kids!

Ha, we have the whinny bad behavior it seems when we do TV and when we don't. So wish I had an answer to this.
Excellent ideas. Thank you.
Would anyone know a good kids screen time app?
There is an app in settings which is free find the word ‘screen time’ and it will tell you what to do next :)
I assessed myself and I'm doing pretty good :)

I've been trying hard to cut back on my kids screen time. It's so hard because of how they react.

How do we start at doing a detox of screen time?

I’m relatively young and have a pretty good portion of screen time but show 0 of these signs
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
No screen time! We're on a screen time diet! Teaching my children to live in the moment!
Your children will fall behind. Earth is becoming all about technology, you cannot starve your children of that. Screens are good for your child..
@@chillpill2016 I’m a kid and I took a month break from screen time by myself. And I was actually doing the opposite so yeah this isn’t true
@@yorkie_gacha5364 Wrong. Screentime is great.
Why is screen time great and why will they be behind? Be behind in what?? It's not difficult to work screens. Grow up.
