I am a 75 year old grandma who came upon this and clicked on it because I love the Avett Brothers. No Hard Feelings is a beautiful song that touches me deeply. Thank you for playing this and being open to appreciating their music.
When you truly love is when you are most afraid. My 50 year old son is dying and he sent me this song about a month ago. Now I know he and I get each other and only love counts.
I'm sorry 😞 my mum hates that I'm terminally ill and there's nothing she can do as it's genetics ❤❤❤ it's not her fault, thank goodness for genetics today and IVF to cut the so called British blue blood inbreeding out of my families awful blue blood!
I am so sorry! Thanks for sharing your story, that really touched me! I can’t imagine how you must feel listening to this song! I wish that you can keep your head up for your son and for yourself! With love from Europe
The Avett Brothers just touch my soul with their music. There are so many great songs ....but "Murder in the City", "Head full of Doubt/Road full of Promise", "Ain't no Man", & " Victory" are at the top of the ones I have heard. They are not as likely to evoke your emotions as "No Hard Feelings", but are all just amazing....Please try a few more of their songs. They are the real deal .
Thank you for doing this song. The Avett Brothers are my favorite band and I can’t listen to this song without getting emotional. It’s so powerful, sad and hopeful at the same time. Glad you checked it out and enjoyed it.
I am a long time Avett fan….my favorite band by far. I love seeing reactions from people who know nothing about them. They are brilliant songwriters. I suggest diving into their catalog…especially as a young dad. They are mid 40s-50 and mostly write about their life experiences. Their bass player, Bob, (the guy you paused on at the end) has a daughter who has battled cancer on and off for the past 10 years or so. The brother who mainly wrote this, Seth (also the main angelic singer on this), wrote this after a divorce. Their music resonates with me as I am sure it will with you. But, like I tell everyone, don’t just listen to their recorded stuff. Go see it live. I promise you won’t regret it. It is energetic, fun, heart warming and emotional all in one show. It will leave you wanting to be a better person and to love everyone. Their recorded albums are nothing like seeing them live. It’s a whole different experience. Just go! Also, their name is pronounced with a long A (Ayvett).
As we get older and love and family and friendships become extra important we all start to become extra aware of our mortality. I’m 42 and even though I attend birthdays, I find myself attending a lot more funerals as well of my elder relatives like aunts and uncles and cousins, etc. And it keeps trickling down. And as I get older I notice the ever increasing health issues affecting my parents. And it’s scary. And I think we all have to face mortality as we get older. It’s important because it should make us all cherish our loved ones more so because one day they will have to leave us. So we need to continue building good memories. See our relatives more frequently. Attend more birthdays and reunions and random visits, so when it comes time when we do have to attend the funerals it won’t feel like that’s the only time we see our loved ones. Life is fleeting and temporary. We have to cherish it and don’t squander it.
Love the Avett Brothers! So glad you had the opportunity to respond to their beautiful music. They are beautiful story tellers. I have seen them twice in concert but they have a very large base. They are considered Americana but it’s kind of blend of folk/country/bluegrass. Hope you will respond to more. Some of my favs: I wish I was, murder in the city, laundry room, I and love and you.
This is one of my favorite songs. They have a new one called "Forever Now" which is also lovely. They write exceptional, thought provoking poetry and sing the lyrics with their hauntingly beautiful voices. Thank you for taking the time to listen and be so open with your feelings. I think the last line is what we all need to strive for in this expression of life and as we leave thus world, "I have no enemies."
Parenthood introduces fear into a life in a way nothing else can. Your perfection of love and family, now you see what can be lost. Your not alone, anyone who has a family knows it
Bob (their bassist, guy on far left when it shows the 3 seated) has been dealing with a child with a serious illness for the last few years - so there’s that flip side to this song too.
I sincerely hope that you'll continue down the Avett Brothers rabbit hole, even if you don't share the journey on the channel. They're compassionate, intelligent, innovative, at times fiery and challenging, but at all times talented and passionate. They're fantastic on all fronts.
It of all the people I subscribe to,I really do love what you have to say when you stop video and speak what your thinking. I appreciate you during your thoughts also with that at times you make me think of something differently of what I was thinking or feeling the same as I
just a guy, randomly here because i've followed the Avett Brothers for years... I'm not a huge reaction video guy... I clicked this one for no real reason... 130am... but... you my friend get it. You don't get country, you don't Avett Brothers... you get IT. I'm a fan of you for that. Best to you and your family.
Ive have the same thing happen when my first child was born. I think its pretty normal, once you have a child you will get a new perspective on a lot of things. For me this song helped me get over that fear. Helped me to understand whats important, to let go of the anger and resentments i had. To actively find gratitude in as much as I can. Like you said, we will all face our time to pass and i want to have no hard feelings when i do.
The Avett Brothers are an American folk rock band from Concord, N C. Two brothers, scott and Seth Avett, along with Bob Crawford and Joe Kwon. Mike Marsh, Tania Elizabeth and Bonnie Avett-Rini are touring members of the band.( From Wikipedia) Another post from Wikipedia states they are Rock and Country and they are from Mt. Pleasant, N C.
This album came out 3 months after my mom passed. When I heard this song, I got the BIGGEST damn lump in my throat. Went to see them live later that fall and absolutely fell in love with their music. I’ve seen them twice since and they’ve closed both times with this. It still moves me even all these years later.
Your reaction to the song is every bit as beautiful as the song. You’re not alone. I play guitar/sing and every time I cover this song I break. But facing the depth of it all also brings me peace. This song cuts and heals. True magic in music.
I have been feeling the same lately about death. Every single day. I truly think that when you lose people that are close to you, it is absolutely eye opening about life and death. I’ve never heard this song before, thank you for reacting to it.
Aye! Vett! So many of their songs will make you feel something deep. They are my favorite band. I’ve seen them 27 times. Check out Jason Isbell if you really want your mind blown!!
I can literally %100 relate to what you're saying about just thinking about death like all the time and trying to fight those thoughts. Thinking about my own life / death, my kids, my family, all if it. I lost my sister ten years ago and it was worse then i could have imagined . Life is certainly high highs and low lows.
I feel you man. That's the power of music like this, it can unlock those feelings and put you in that place even if you personally haven't suffered a loss lately. It's kinda hard to categorize the Avett Brothers music genre wise. Definitely country influences, but their older stuff also has a lot of bluegrass and rock and roll influence too. They're just really genuine dudes and their lyrics show it.
I haven’t seen it mentioned but there is an HBO documentary on the making of this album with the recording of this song serving as the culmination. The emotion expressed during the recording is visible and the reaction to it (by the brothers and others) is thought provoking. Worth a watch!
Your not alone brother! Same here with thinking about my little girls. Mad love to your videos but more importantly mad love to you for opening up like some many of us probably wanna do. I know we all need it, great video 🙏🏼
These guys are great. Seen them twice in concert. This album was the first picked up by a record label and was produced by non other than Rick Rubin. The last albums were pretty much just them. They write all of their own stuff. My favorite might be Laundry Room, but I also love The Ballad of Love and Hate.
One way to deal with the anxiety of thinking about death, is to accept it. No one gets out alive. You are no exception. Your child is no exception. There is no escape key to avoid it. Imagine your own death and your child's death. Then imagine what you would be doing one month after your child's death. Would you abandon your remaining family and friends, your business that you spent so many years creating, your colleagues and employees? Imagine what your family would be doing one month after your own death. Would they remain in mourning forever, slowly wasting away? Soldiers are taught to expect death and injury in combat. Do what you can to avoid it, but don't let the death of your buddies stop you from completing the mission. What is your mission that you have to complete? Do you have a mission?
They are hard to put into a genre but I guess I would call them folk...The rabbit hole is deep with these guys. They realy do few gospel songs justice...Most of their stuff is fun with some top notch writing. Try out "Prison To Heaven" (Live for WFUV) That one is fun and great. Also a little bit deeper one is Ballad of love and hate. I would recommend their live versions of songs.
They got quite a large back catalogue. Check out these other artists, the skints, will and the people and the samantics all from the uk. 🏴🏴🇬🇧
Hey Black P just so you know i rock with you ....... i am not a religious man but agree that we can disagree ......... i almost died when i was 18 months old and live a hard live up until i moved to Ontario and i started to get some help........ I am now very good with me and did not go down what others kept trying to push down my throat ..... I am 50 years old now turning 51 in march.......... i understand you see the comments and just can not respond because of fear where it is going to take the confo........ I love watching your sparring videos ....... I also loved seeing you and don dress up and go to the streets to give people smiles .......
2nd view -this one gets me. Much Love BP -Check out the doc "May It Last" -it's about the Avett Bros and the recording of this album -well worth the time. See you soon -TC Bro
Fear not: We are born, live, raise the next generation, die. Some of us can't do all of these but with death we return to the earth and from dust another is born. Life is a great wheel with a small rapidly turning wheel of years within it. I don't worry that I will return to dust. It just is and nothing to worry about.
So the thoughts you are talking about are potentially an anxiety/depressive disorder. I think dark thoughts are common but since the birth of my first child the immediate dreadful dark thoughts that come in, like worst case scenario thoughts led me to see help and I was diagnosed with an anxiety/depressive disorder. I started meds and we are trying to figure out dosages still but it has helped, I still get like worst case scenario thoughts, but the impending negative thoughts have subsided. Thank you for being honest in your reaction.
Hopefully this doesn't get taken down. I love these guys, but it seems that they're up there with The Eagles in terms of blocking reactions. I like this song, but it's far from my favorite from them. "The Once and Future Carpenter", is one of my favorites from them. It covers the same subject, but in a more upbeat tone. Musically they're great, but lyrically they're in my top ten of any genre. Not necessarily the cleverest, but as poetic and thought provoking as anything else I've ever heard.
Where do your thoughts of death lead you? To fear living, feeling, and losing loved ones? Or to enjoying the time with loved ones and trying to make them enjoy their lives too? Follow your thoughts in the direction you want to go.
Murder in the city is an amazing song by the Avett Brothers
He needs to do this one!!!

@joanholman3105 thank you and stay safe ❤️ educate, never hate 🌹 💐
“When you truly love is when you are most afraid”….few words ever spoken as true as this.

They have a catalog of beautiful songs, such a talented band.
The Avett Brothers deal with this subject throughout their catalogue of music. Try "Through My Prayers" or "Murder in the City"
Thank you for doing this song. The Avett Brothers are my favorite band and I can’t listen to this song without getting emotional. It’s so powerful, sad and hopeful at the same time. Glad you checked it out and enjoyed it.

Agreed, I’m 59 with a sweet 3 yr old daughter and at times the fear is palpable

Ugh. I love this band so much. Amazing live. So many good songs. Too bad this video didn't get more views!!
This is perfection!Avett brothers❤

As a Bible believing Christian this song encourages me, cause Jesus said He defeated death, and we have nothing to fear.

Their song We Americans! Just as thought provoking.
YES! I often use that line “stolen land built with stolen people” because it’s way too true.
These guys are great
I saw them in the concert, they had so much energy!
The Avetts run from more on on the rock side (kick drum heart, vanity) to folk and country. They like to explore their sound. I love them!
I have been feeling the same lately about death. Every single day. I truly think that when you lose people that are close to you, it is absolutely eye opening about life and death. I’ve never heard this song before, thank you for reacting to it.

This is on a playlist I put together after my mom passed on 1/16/23. They are amazing. Highly recommend Through my prayers. It’ll get ya though.
I’ve been waiting for someone to do this one. Beautiful. It’s about the divorce of the guy in the middle. It’s not country.

It sounds like folk music maybe a little country sound but definitely sound like folk

You should check out Murder in the City by Avett brothers. Its so good and deep
If this moved you, listen to their song Murder In The City…amazing
Jesus got you! Just find him
It's not just you everyone has that fear.
Listen to Eva Cassidy , she died young of breast cancer
Music hit you….
Why does no one ever mention that the third guy never sings? He just sits there. What is going on there?
He’s the third member of the band and not related to the two brothers. He doesn’t sing, just plays instruments.
