i watched like 5 vocal coach reaction to this Ernie's perfomance. 4 including you, talk about dynamics. im not a music expert but when so many vocal coach touch about this point, i know u are a knowledgeable in music and knows what you talking about. glad that u explain what is dynamics at the end of the video. there is this one vocal coach who reacted to many malaysian singer and he said "what i noticed about many malaysian singer is they are so well in doing dynamics in their singing". i guess dynamics is really an important thing in singing since i heard it a lot when vocal coach reacting to some malaysian singers.
just to note that the audio gain in the video that you are reacting to is the one making it sounds distorted, actually, the original full live performance video from the same channel does sound better (and quieter) than this video. I think the uploader increased the audio gain before publishing it to youtube, it was not that Ernie blew the mic off with her voice xD. Anyway I really like your 2-minute "dynamics" sharing and I learn something new.
Audio gain will not distort the sound if its not already distorted. There was very very minimal distortion already on the original video. Thats because ernie placed her mic close still while belting. Its very minimal but its already there. The reason why she still kept her mic closed might be because she is afraid her voice might drown a little with the huge orchestral arrangement if she had moved the mic even for a bit.
