Strongyloidiasis (Threadworms) | Causes, Pathophysiology, Signs and Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment
Strongyloidiasis (also known as Threadworms) is a relatively underreported but prevalent parasitic infection that causes dermatological, gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms. Individuals can become infected by walking on bare feet and becoming exposed to larvae in the sand or soil. Larvae penetrate into the skin and migrate to the small intestines, where they mature into adult forms and release eggs that mature into larvae that are then excreted into the patient’s stool that is then released into the environment. In this lesson, we discuss the full in-depth overview of the pathophysiology of this condition, including the signs and symptoms, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.

I was on chronic steroids when I worked both in animal care and horticulture. Got immune suppressed enough to develop diabetes. That was years ago, I'm off steroids and the diabetes has resolved. Despite this and problems with my guts, weight loss and fatigue, can't get any Dr to just write an anti-parasitic. Guess I'll do it myself

Great lecture, thanks. The prevalence is probably much higher than 7-9% in some tropical countries. And it might also be transmitted by sleeping in unclean bed linen. Definitely something to be aware of, for people who often travel to tropical countries

I live in the tropics and give my family and my dogs antiparasite meds...ivermectin, medbendazole etc

Glad u mentioned IVM as part of the protocol. In Asia and other tropical countries - parasite zappers are common.

These can also be found inside insects. Particularly species of crickets & beetles. I've seen them squirm out, after killing these bugs.

@@doobieblaze1628 approximately one week later I add an appointment with the vet to get my buddies kidneys and yearly checkup and mentioned it to the dock who I've known for 20 years and showed him the pictures. He told me exactly what to do
