The HS5s are designed to bring forward certain midrange frequencies. They are not designed to sound "nice" (although they do) and not totally flat. They bring forward problems and will rip the shreads out of a bad mix! They have a nice tight, non boomy bass, but it does roll of far sooner than comparible 5 inch monitors. They have a good depth to them and a fairly bright top end. They have a decent amount of detail. They need either headphones or a second set of more bassy monitors to get best results. They take getting used but excellent monitors. Very good for getting mixes to translate. They are a proper, quality reference monitor and look amazing.
The limiting factor seems to be the recording environment (equipment, placement, room response etc). All monitors sounds a bit too similar compared to better comparisons.
This new way to compare the monitors...... So much better! Now we can have a better ideia on how the monitors are compared with the original sound! Cheers!
for me, really nice separation in the higher ends for the yamaha's on the classic music. But more meat and potatoes in the mids and lows for the mackie's for the other genres
Thanks for the comparison. After working with NS10s I found the HS series from Yamaha to be a little underwhelming. After hearing them side-by-side I can say that I'm definitely willing to try the MR524s for the price. The low end cutoff seems reasonable considering they have a decent 10" sub to help. The highs actually sound less boxy on the Mackies and that's always good for me. Not about to lose the Yamahas yet, but who am I not to add the Mackies to my collection? Cheers!
Is it worth another $130 to go from the m524 to m624? I got the 524 pair for $250 and the pair of 624 would be $380. Im wondering if the bass is that much better
I watched this comparison with my MR524 monitors but the sound are treble boosted for each inspirations. I checked both of them originally and Mackie is a little bit better for guitar sounds with cheaper price. And both of them give you reference sound without any treble or bass boosting.
I think Yamaha has an overpowered mid-range boxy lows when it compared to the Mackies and overall Mackies are better to have. What is your opinion mate? And also thanks for this effective comparison.
Classic yamaha yes clear mid range , Mackies have bass port in the back , covvering bass better and highs . But since we all know yamahas mid range is a bit high then Mackies win there as well . No beating mackies , not these ones
Hi! Thank's for the video. I hope we will see very soon a comparison between mackie mr524 and jbl lsr305/305p(2nd generation). I want to buy 2 speakers(for music/movies) soon and oscillate between these two, mackie and jbl. Until now, I'm tending to buy mackie mr624. Wich do you prefer?
There will be Adam/Mackie comparison with JBL LSR305 but not with 305p MKII as it is still not available in Europe. MR624 should be very good monitor judging by MR524, but that is just a guess as I have not tested MR624 yet
That Yamaha needs a sub to be really good. Mackie has a nice sound eq but a little too forward sounding. I would like to see that yamaha with a sub. Can you do that? Nice video i liked the change to see how it sounds on my earphone as well :) PS: about the new formula, what if you put the original sound on the begining and again in the end? So you can use the middle ground to develop the box to box comparison while you give us an idea of how it sounds in the original. Anyway its nice to see those changes.
Feel like the tasman is flat and maybe actually at 0 but the Mackie sounds full and possibly ha a set eq to make things sound better kinda like headphones maser purely for listening not editing.
Mmmm sweet 524s...thinking of upgrading my edifier 2600 with these nice mackies. May i ask more comparisons please?? Dreaming of a digital stereophony comparison beetween 524 and 2600 just to see listen if the upgrade is worth..cos 524 cost more than twice as much thanks very very much.
Zakirhusain Vakil why? Its good to know how they compare to the original tracks. Not just how they differ from each other. The original tracks gives good context.
Did You watch the whole video mate? In each track there is a section where video switches between both speakers without the original track interrupting ;)
The Yamaha's are better. Not sure what y'all are hearing. Those Mackie's might be better for just listening of movies or music production, but I don't think they'd be good for mixing.
Remember they are pro or semi pro studio monitors for music production mixing correction..spotting and revealing little errors defects here and there...they are special tools..not for general people for leisure music listening..so..they are special. Not for everyone. They are tools for work..not toys to play. That is why you feel them strange. They are not designed and made to sound nice as hi fi speakers.
@@endrizo you are absolutly right! They are both absolutly great studio monitors. But i think the Yamaha's are designed for clears high's and the mackies designed for clear and powerfull low's. They're pretty bad for studio work as anyone can hear it is far off from the original track, very mid forward and lack details compared to maackie
