    Seeing your Video reminds me of one of the MOST important things I did when I had my house built. PICTURES ! We took lots and lots of pictures of the house DURING the construction process. BEFORE the insulation and sheetrock covered the walls and ceilings. I even held a tape measure in place on some of the pictures so I could find where critical pipes were located if we needed to find them. 25 years later, I can say I have been really glad I took those pictures!
    You never know what will happen over time. In my case, I found where an air conditioner coolant line was run. IT had a drywall screw stuck in it ! That is the sort of thing where pictures DO help. Too bad my DRYWALL guy didn't see them ...

    Your attention to detail, while admirable, removes all the fun of an opportune flush when your nemesis(older brother or sister) is vulnerable. Trying to run while laughing your ass off is a gift that keeps on giving in the never-ending sibling rivalry.

    Brought back some childhood memories. My Dad was quick to fix the problems. He built our house that I was born and raised in. Moen is top notch! We bought a new home and the kitchen sink hose busted just in time for Thanksgiving! Lol! They sent us our new hose and a sprayer nozzle! So easy to work with. You do such beautiful work and have much to be proud of. Can't wait to see y'all living there and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Many blessings to you?

    I am a retired plumbing contractor. When Moen first the market 50 or so years ago (I was about 17). They had a tough time making inroads until contractors realized they were the BEST for back to back installs.... just turn the cartridge 180°!
    That being said the best for wearability is far and away, Symmons but too expensive for homes.... I did put them in my home though.

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  6 років тому +2

      Fred Levine I worked on lots of Symmons in commercial applications... never cared for them. Expensive and complicated although they do last.

    One thing we did was take photos of the wall with an extended tape measure so we will always know whats behind the sheet rock.. Another thing we did was take a magic marker and put a mark on the floor exactly where the center of the stud was. We did this so when we sheetrocked, we always knew where the screws were going. I know pros would never do this, but it worked for us

    I've built 5 houses and remodeled a few more over 45 years. I've always been a fan of Moen Faucets. However, in my last remodel I tried Kohler for one bath and Moen for the other. What I noticed almost immediately was that the Moen faucet seems to have a lot of turbulence through the valve body resulting in noise. With the Kohler, you could be next to the wall of the bathroom and not know anyone was showering. With the Moen, you could be anywhere in the house and know when the shower was being used. I also was in Facility Maintenance for large corporations. In one facility we had 32 bathrooms with 4 sinks/bathroom. I replaced about half of them with Moen faucets and found they didn't stand up very well compared to the American Standard they replaced.
    My latest house has Kohler. One thing I probably should have done is gotten Temperature/pressure balancing valves. We have an on demand water heater with the temperature set at 120. When Hot water is being used, say in the laundry, and you're showering, there are temperature fluctuations, usually hotter. I think this is caused by the On Demand water heater trying to catch up.

    Great job and the plumbing looks great, and them nail plates I think are one of the best things they made for the plumbing and electrical when it comes to doing the drywall coming from someone who has been doing Drywall and taping for 25 years or better.

    Sometimes you can just re grease the moen cartridge and it will work like new again but the cartridges are cheap enough to just buy a brand new one. I been using them since they came out I love them.

    Before you dry wall hears a tip. Use 1/4 ply wood in kitchen where your cabnits will be then use 1/4 inch drywall. That way your always guaranteed to hit wood makes hanging cabnits so much easier. Been doing it for years.

      Also good for the areas you might want to wall mount tv's later. My brother in law thought I was nuts when I had him but 2x8 blocking in the wall where the tv would go until he installed the tv and hit wood each time so no drywall anchors needed.

    A gentle reminder: you called a water softener a 'luxury item' in a previous video. Now you suggest that even Moen valves are damaged by hard water. As you said, with a septic system you have the added expense of potassium rather than sodium treatment, but I ask, "How big a hassle will it be to repair/replace this shower valve?" My answer is that a water softener is not a luxury but instead is part of a well thought-out plumbing system in locations where it is needed. This is not a lecture, just a gentle reminder. Keep up the good work.

    For long term documentation it could be usefull to have pictures/drawings of the layout of all the piping (and not only the planning of the piping). Who knows what 10 or 20 years later will need maintanance or change. The best place to depot the pictures - in my opinion - is a small cabinet built into one of the walls (like a small switch cabinet). Otherwise much to often the documentation gets lost.

    For all the noise I've heard about this pressure/temperature thing, I've never actually experienced it no matter where I lived. I especially note that I replumbed my current house with 3/4" and it never happens here. I also note that contractors use the smallest pipe possible and I think that's where the problem is.
    Do it cheap or do it right!

    Will choose Moen everytime..especially over Delta, I have 3 Delta fixtures in this home at the moment, and everyone of them has problems. No longer trust Delta, as I've had to many problems with them in the past 20 yrs., and I've already changed out 4 fixtures to either Moen or Pfister, and will be glad when I do the others.

    I've been thinking about all the lost heat going up the wood stove exhause...
    I've been.thinking..
    Maybe building a tank at a minimum insulated wall side
    side..
    Maybe 6 inchs thick
    48 inchs wide
    72 inchs high
    Might be about 90 gallons..
    At a minimum it should at least preheat the water feeding the water heater..
    But how to make it not look intrusive....
    Just would be a shame to loose all that heat....

    We have thermostatic taps overhere in the netherlands. Constant temperature, but flow may change with pressure. Is that what you mean by pressure compensated or is it a totally different mechanism?
    Nice progress

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  6 років тому +1

      With this valve, both pressure and temperature are consistent. Thats the only complaint that I've ever gotten with this valve is pressure. It's either on or off. Pressure is basically the same all the way through.

      The PEX can freeze without bursting, for one. It will swell to about twice its size. Then, when it thaws it will typically return to almost its original size. Unless you have repeated freeze-ups you would need a measuring tool to see the difference from original diameter.
