    Those treasures you found in this episode will make lovely hooks and chains for hanging planters of flower baskets to hang outdoors, and will give a lovely country cottage look to it all. A great episode, you got so much done in this clip.! M.

      Ooh yes they will, I have them all saved up for when I get some proper down time to get them all cleaned up nicely. I love the old hooks and chains, also the bits that have been pushed into the walls for hanging tools! Love those. The possible age of these bits and pieces fascinate me.

    So much potential with that building. Workshop, learning to repair stone work, create a guest house or studio. Don’t get discouraged. If you think yours is bad, check our Escape to Rural France and see what he’s dealing with. Just go at your own pace and enjoy the journey. You’ll be so proud of what you’ll accomplish.

    I am so appreciative of your Neighbour. Stay with him and learn how to do the stone work. I am so so so proud of you both. You tackled the Jungle and all its creepy crawlies, climbed rock walls and dug trenches. Then you found help for stone work. Look at the both of you go!!! That must have been a magic cup of tea.

    What I was waiting for. At about 58 minutes you can clearly see the trench. The cows back end would be at the trench while they were getting milked. They eat and do the other thing a lot. I milked cows. When they defecated it went into the trench. When milking was done, you cleaned out the trench. The window there is perfect for that. There was probably a feeder of some kind where their heads would be. I milked in a modern barn, but grew up on a farm that had the old barn with trench. My mom and dad milked in that barn before they sold the cows.

    • @thecornerhouseproject
      @thecornerhouseproject  Рік тому +1

      I did find a feeder when we did a first clear out of the shed back in June! There were also lots of chains this time around too and leather collars. It was quite a moment when we saw that gulley appear!

  • @10928rob
    @10928rob Рік тому +4

    Great job you two, a lot of hard work, don't be down hearted about the stone walls, give them a good brush out, once you get a lime motar bed down and start to place the stones, and a straight edge to work off and maintain the cavity and place the filler stones, once it's firm enough. Chins up, I would cut that ivy through right at the base of the plant with a handsaw, and stop it doing any further damage. xx

    • @thecornerhouseproject
      @thecornerhouseproject  Рік тому +3

      Thanks Pa, it was quite sad to see how much damage the Ivy had done…when you think how long they have stood there for and in just a few small years the destruction it caused! Onwards and upwards though, it’ll get fixed and be good as new lol. We cut through loads at the base back in May but clearly didn’t get the right ones 😂 will definitely have a go at the stones…but the neighbour used to it for a living…so we will get him to do the worst ones, better to have someone who knows what they’re doing with those bits lol. It is far to rusted to do anything with, but of course that is being saved and put to one side for now. See what I mean about don't encourage her hahaha.

    Again my thoughts. Leaf blower. Blow out random dust and loose bits. Don’t move wall stones. Just mix a good sloppy mess of concrete slap it in! Spade it smooth. Add small rock to larger holes as filler and extra structure, and repeat cementing. Focus top to bottom. 3 foot by 7 foot segments areas at a time.

    Please don't keep putting garden waste in skips and sending it to landfill... just build a walled enclosure with pallets 1-high on edge, dump anything natural in there until it is a pyramid as high again as the pallets; when it rots down to a foot or do below thd top plant potatoes in it with a bit of more mature compost on top, your spuds will grow right down through the lot.

    @claudebernardin1096 3 місяці тому

    Frankly, I know you’re worried. But just fill the gaps! Tons and tons of small stone and cement. Smooth as you go, unless you want the natural look. Once it begins to set, brush away what you don’t want of your cement. I’d say, inside will take 2 weeks. To steady up firmly. I’d be more attentive to door and window and roof line areas. Shore up slowly, efficiently, and keep as level as possible.

    Again, you are making tremendous progress!! I am so happy to see the ivy being addressed. It transforms you property from "derelict" to "in need of repair". From the look of it I would say that the out building is suitable for a temporary workshop. It's very difficult to live in a house while doing major renovations; treating and cutting lumber in the shed will reduce the stress level.
    In my opinion the outbuilding can be salvaged. When you neighbour comes over to do the stone work pay close attention and see if he will teach you so that you can work on the other out buildings when the time comes.

      No problem at all! Even though it has taken a long time to get it sorted, it’s definitely been worth the effort in doing it! To see those flag stones appearing one by one and the gulley down the middle…well, it’s a joy to behold! Yeah the Ivy is a big pain! It’s everywhere and has destroyed so many trees on the land too! We will conquer it though………eventually! Oh I will be watching very closely on how he does it! I did think about doing it ourselves…but the one wall looks almost ready to collapse and that might be a bit ambitious for a first try!

    Flag stones are cool, but not if they are not level. You’ll eventually trip and fall. You just don’t need any of that. Think comfort, safety first foremost.

    Hi. is this workshop also going to be a garage ? the opening on the front wall to the right could be made larger to archive this. leaving the other side as you workshop. Blockwork inside with back fill should keep the exterior looking the same. Also on the left with the blockwork you could add a small mezi floor above for storage. Window is great. maybe tried to cut back the weeds a little each week (when you mow the grass). Roof needs totally renew but you can just replace exactly what is there, so low cost.

    • @thecornerhouseproject
      @thecornerhouseproject  Рік тому +1

      We hadn’t thought about a garage to be honest, mainly because at some point I think we will remove the grass around the back of the house because only about an inch below is a hard standing. Liking the idea of a mezzanine floor though! What a great idea!

    maybe a dumb question, but can you use some of the wood for a boardwalk between the shed and the house? to stay out of the muck?

    • @thecornerhouseproject
      @thecornerhouseproject  Рік тому

      Funnily enough, on day one of starting, which seems such a long time ago, we put some of the decking boards we have down both sides of the tent as that is the worst part where we continually walk. Thank you for suggesting it as if we hadn't done it already, we would have done after reading you comment.

    • @thecornerhouseproject
      @thecornerhouseproject  Рік тому +1

      Hiya, we found a load of stones in the other outbuilding when we were first clearing that and couldn't work out where they had all come from. It all made sense on Saturday when we found out the original door was widened. So now we know where they are, we can maybe rebuild the door back to the original size.

    I was thinking that you could put your tent in there. and a small woodstove/coal burner/ peat moss burner. board up the windows and make a door. tarp the roof. put pallets and wood on the flagstones tent flood ready! Fall is coming and with all this global weather changes. You will never know what you will get in weather.

    • @thecornerhouseproject
      @thecornerhouseproject  Рік тому

      Sadly not Carol, all bonfires are now banned over here so it can either breakdown on the land, which is likely, or can go in a skip, which we will have to get another in the future anyway.
