      Oats? Wheat? Just curious if they will work also. Maybe just list what we should NOT feed them if the list is shorter. Thanks. I am a permaculture type and always looking to keep my animals as close to natural as possible, including a small 30gallon pond. Cheers.

    I'd like to share some more plants i feed my rabbits.
    Fodder beet/mangelwurzel- Beta vulgaris- root like beet, traditionally used for cattle, yields 20-30 tonnes per acre!
    Great nutticious value! I they weren't so labour intensive(to prep for cattle), all dairy farmers around the world would still feed them. Rabbits eat the whole beet without leaves, not so labour intensive. When harvesting, cut the leaves above the top the beet, undamaged beets last longer.
    Harvested around first frost, when stored dry they'll be alrigth for up to 6 months!
    Leaves are not great for rabbits, but if you have meat rabbits it's alrigth because they won't get old enough to have problems from the leaves.
    My rabbits love them, i buy them for around €50 per metric tonne, homegrown last longer because they are cleaner and not harvested mechanically/damaged.
    I dare to say they cut my feed bill in half in winter+winter kits grow like hell on it.
    (Sweet) corn- i eat the cobs, my rabbits eat the plants and underdevelopted cobs.
    I leave the stalks in the ground when i harvest the corn, i'll feed them before they'll dry.
    You could also use regular feed corn, hang the cobs to dry and feed the plants. Downside is plants will dry out, rabbits won't bother but in some climates the stalks will turn moldy.
    The kernels itself are not good for rabbits, but you can feed them to meat rabbits. Again, they won't get old enough to have problems with the corn.
    Meat rabbits grow extremely fast when fed with corn buy they'll have some yellow fat. Around here people feed the corn on the cob, saves time shelling, easier to hang to dry and the rabbits can eat it easier.

    Thanks for the video. Very inspiring. I'm wondering what you grow for protein? I've been reading that younger rabbits need lots of alfalfa for protein . I suspect that the sunflower plant and bean plants would constitute as a protein supplement? Thanks again.

    What type of pellet feeders are those? I have bowls right now but am looking at this type. Also did you have to cut the cage to install them?

    • @vixxcottage
      @vixxcottage 3 роки тому

      They are called J feeders and you have to cut to put into cage. Can purchase at Tractor Supply or local feed store.

    • @dr.floridaman4805
      @dr.floridaman4805 3 роки тому

      When you cut the cage, only cut out 3 side. Bottom, left, right.
      Fold the cut out up and install j feeder.
      The cutout allows you to take the feeder out and close the hole back up.

      I did cut the wire to install. These are 2.5 pound feeders, but I no longer remember exactly where they came from!
