Some great tips in regards to make drawing more appealing from my experience: 1-Lessen consuming media about art and produce more art. 2-Draw and make mistakes in the process and don't focus on the outcome. 3-Perfectionism is the enemy of improvement. 4-Draw for yourself not for external validation, you will be stuck in your current level of skills if you don't appreciate your artworks more often.
I would argue with the first one, you need to take ideas from others, you need to copy the masters and be inspired by everything, but you needed to be very critical with all this information, because you need to take the necessary and small, otherwise you will lose your individuality and become a copy.
I just want to clarify one more point if you seek to find the drawing process to appeal you then start by doing the process. Planning and setting goals will come eventually as you improve your methods of "doing" the process. If it all comes down to what makes the drawing to happen is the doing of the art. Not theorizing it or something external. If you can see to it that you start that process of doing the art. Then all other points in Josh video advices will be easier to grasp.
I resonate with this a lot, Josh. It makes me feel better knowing that someone as good as you goes through the same struggles I go through. I sometimes feel so bad about the time I spend on my phone and it always makes me feel a bit like a failure. And you're absolutely right! The way to beat that addiction is to set goals for yourself and to make a plan. Because a big part of grabbing your phone and start scrolling is not really knowing what you're going to draw and what you want to study. So if you plan ahead you don't really have time to procrastinate. And I have to agree with the investing part. I used to think it didn't really make a difference but when you try good quality supplies and compare with the low grade stuff you can see how much of a difference it makes. Thank you for this video, Josh!
Someone complained about your writing and grammar when you speak. It’s not grammar, it’s your accent. Which sounds fine to me and your writing is fine too. No problem with any of it. But some people always have something to complain about. Accent is not something that’s easy to change. Keep up the great work
There's nothing wrong with telling someone their grammar isn't great especially when it's another language other then their native tongue and they want to improve. The only one who made it negative was u. Amd while learning a language u should also try to get the accent too! It's not negative unless u MAKE it negative (like how u did)
@@Eudora776 wrong. If my native language isn’t English and I’m doing videos, yes you can or don’t have to like my accent but to talk as if I’m supposed to change my accent is foolish. Not everyone is perfect
@resistancepublishing u should still try Thom when learning spanish and u don't try at ALL some might not even understand u. I'm not saying it has to be perfect like a native but when learning another language YES u should TRY to at least get some sort of accent as that's apart of the language jist like how native English speakers are always told to do it it goes both ways. Like I said ur the only one making this a "negative" thing
I’ve been drawing for 7-8years now, half of this time I was a little kid, but well I don’t feel like I improved at all this year, I am ADHD so it’s really hard to concentrate but I am still trying to improve this summer and catc up to all these years. Thanks Josh
@adittip230 what has really helped me was that I use my sketchbook as a "pictures/journal of ideas". So I always have projects I can work on if I don't know what to draw. I have over 200 projects ready to be worked on, so for now I won't be running of stuff to draw. Maybe something like that could work for you.
@adittip230 I can show you a sample if you'd like. It looks like a 5 year old drew it, but it's the notes I take that I'm able to go back to it and see exactly what I had in mind, so it's easy for me to know exactly what needs to be drawn.
I really apperciate your videos and I am glad that you talked about smartphones issues! Continue doing your art and videos. Your editing and filming are so good!
The invest in materials thing is so true.If you think of it like you only using your mouse and the paint program to create art-yeah it can be done, but the amount of hurdles you're putting in your way. Another good reason is that it really helps with art block. I used mechanical pencil and dollar store sketchbooks for a while (along with digital art), it really got stale until one day my girlfriend at the time thought it would be fun if we just try painting and trying to get a good shape and value with a brush stroke really changed how my process usually went. When working in ink of course it made me measure and come at the drawing with more of a plan of action. When using brush pens it my timidness was full on display because I couldn't work up values and I didn't have a fixed size, it's very challenging and teaches you so much.
It helps me a whole lot to practice new techniques using cheap art materials. I know the experts say to only invest in the best quality materials but I fear making mistakes with more expensive materials and I hesitate to get started. But with cheaper art materials I can practice holding the pencils, practice lightly shading and learning other valuable techniques that I hesitate to try with more expensive materials. When I start feeling much more confident than I switch over to my favorite brands like Prismacolor. You have to just do what feels right to you even if the "experts" tell you otherwise. Remember art is about expressing what is in our hearts.
I have always admired your lifestyle and the way you live it to the fullest. You inspire me to keep moving forward and never give up on my dreams. Your energy and positivity are infectious, and I am grateful to have you as a source of motivation in my life. Keep being the amazing person that you are, and never stop pursuing what makes you truly happy. Your journey is an inspiration to us all, showing that with dedication and passion, anything is possible.
I draw about 4 hrs on the weekends and about 1.5 hrs during the weekdays with Thursday off due to late night meeting. Sadly it only equals to about 15 hrs a week but i am attempting to shoot for short goals that could help monetize my art full time. That way i can put more hrs into art in the future.
Hi, love your art style❤ btw, has anyone ever told you that your videos are giving very *GHIBLI VIBES* , and i love love love it soooo much! Thank you for creating beautiful, peaceful, and informative contents here in YT❤❤
Don't ever be afraid to make mistakes. I personally learn best from my mistakes more than from experts. I appreciate their advice but I am a more instinctual person. I learn by feeling and action

I draw everyday. To the point that sometimes I have to remind myself that I need to rest.
I wish I could relate
