I miss that sound. We recently moved from Brisbane to NSW Australia. I used to find that noise scary, now I miss it. Thank you for the video. He/she's very cute.
Used to have them in sw sydney...gone now.
They're pretty birds but a curlew screaming next to your window at 4 in the morning is not how you want to wake up.
I used to live in the bush, sometimes it's even creepier when you can hear it far in the distance, sounds like someone screaming in the middle of the woods.
lol yep, every morning, evening and night. It seemed a little lost and demented though like it kept trying to call out for its baby, not his friends as it was a loner. Felt really sorry for it, was going on for like 6 months
I love their call, I used to go to sleep to it as a kid. it sounded like mournful children lamenting their fate, & it lulled me to sleep.
There"s nothing like falling to sleep to an entire internet of curlew cries accross the Island. Oh I miss it.
what a lovely man you are to have gentled it down so it trusts you. respect.
So this is the git that wakes me up every night.
Yep.

A lovely Unique Bird.
I lived in the WA wheat belt and that was the sound that put me to sleep every night, I love it as, strangely enough, I find it soothing.
Its a weirdly relaxing sound to me. i miss them.
that sound goes straight to your heart, deep down inside
yes I miss it too. so relaxing to go to sleep to.
@@missread5932 I just now heard the song for the first time in this video, brought tears to my eyes, such a mournful and soulful call.
That was beautiful. Being visited by this little bird. And then getting a song..
Thank you. Have a G'Day.
Oh l love how you allow it into your home to sing and then it goes ……🥰
A very trusting, special bird :)
Oh my goodness so spectacular
What a voice this bird has! So tame too. This bird is also in America and on Indian beaches. As a kid growing up in India, we took summer vacations on the beach. The curlew's song arced through the sky on long sultry afternoons dividing the day in half. I always found it mesmerizing and haunting. I heard it again in America. I had to identify the bird. They have amazing voices, so rich and melodious! Thank you for posting, I really enjoyed this!
Some parts of England have these beautiful birds too.
best vid on youtube ✨👌
The ancestors see your spirit is pure. They won't come close peacefully If you have bad spirits. Thankyou for showing my totem some welcome hospitality. Marri Ngubadi ✊🏾
Lovely Birds.
Who else is auzzie and also feels it hard to sleep when these things are screaming like this right next to your windows
Yep, got woken up by 4 of the little shits last night outside my window. Had to chase the fuckers away 😂😂
I'm in Victoria so its magpies and plovers that wake me up.still, this bird is fuggin loud!
not gonna lie, they help me sleep lmao. i love that sound
Its such a nice sound how can you say its disturbing? Wonderful Gods creation. Some people watch too many ghost movies.
@@Sherlock245 I was traumatised by these things when I was younger up at Townsville, I never knew they were birds.
I love the guy as much as I love the bird so much
Available this bird for sale??
I love this guy so much!
My fav bird the bush stone curlew so fat and cute
I see a lot of them in townsville one morning I saw a whole bunch chilling out on a corner of one of the streets
AMCENTZ GAMING magnetic island is riddled with them 😂 my pop used to scare my younger brothers by saying it was the boogie man snatching up the little kids Hahahaha
bro i see alot of them in my school like last week there was alot
Curlew is the death calling bird if it visits 3 nights in a row for Koori people! Read Oodgroo's poem 'The Curlew Cried'.
Very cool - I was looking forward ot hearing one of them since I was last in Queensland!
I stumbled upon their chicks in Brisbane once and one of those f**ers chased me for a block making a ghastly dinosaur scream. :O
Fun fact: This bird call, often heard around 3am in suburban Gold Coast streets, is commonly followed up with another fascinating call;
"SHUT the FUCK UP!!!!"
I call them screaming Lady birds coz when we first heard one it sounded like a woman screaming it was scary I live in Queensland Brisbane and I hear them all the bloody time gotta love them tho

Amazing!
I saw the buggers in a park in Surfers. But they were like 3 feet tall ???
Living in the colder end of Australai, I don't have to be woken by that at 4am. Actually, I'm a night shifter, so I'm awake any way. I'd get used to it after a while. Much better than a couple of tom cats fighting. Sounds like a tame version of an Aztec Death Whistle.
We get the very occasional noise like this in country Victoria.
Used to have one of these in my backyard in Sydney a long long time ago.....sadly no more.
Fella that's so cool .
What do curlews feed on?
It is a wild one. It only comes to say hello.
People are saying how beautiful they sound, but was anyone absolutely terrified of the sound of these things when they were younger? I thought they were some sort of monsters in our back yard.
Lovely birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know if there is a way of shutting them up at night if in your yard?
They are protected....
@@BravoAustralia I don't mean hurting them, something that stops them calling. Maybe something that interests him more than the calling.
Just beautiful
I call them axe murder victims. Frighten me every time they scream in the middle of the night.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
