  • It's 2023! and to quote Peter Quill - "I'm gonna make some weird sh!#"
    Let's hit the ground running this year and kick things off with a really fun World Creation Challenge.
    JANUARY ARTIST CHALLENGE: Come up with a single piece of key art to describe a whole game or movie world.
    Think of this like an elevator pitch: if you had 30 seconds to convince someone that a world you dreamed up is worth producing-what piece of art would you want them to see? Dig deep! Go back to that world you created years ago that you just never quite got around to painting, and let's finally bring it to life!

    Really cool scene ! The very located focal point could let us think that's a tiny creature in a very big world, at least for me :) Hi from France !

      Whoa! I never considered that but I totally see it now. That is amazing - that's exactly the kind of thing that I love with this kind of image - different interpretations lead to wildly different ideas.

    What a cool artwork to start off the challenge! Thank you for that eye candy. Interestingly, at first I thought that futuristic weapon was going to be some sort of high tech fishing rod of sorts and that gave me a lot of wild ideas, imagination be running wild sometimes.
    I guess it's time to step out of the shadows and try myself out in a challenge for once, thank you for the opportunity!

      Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it. I totally see the fishing pole now. Completely unintentional but now it could be this whole other world and that's what I love about leaving things just a bit uncertain in these images. Come on out of the shadows! The community is super supportive and I know it will be a great experience.

    Stunning work! And a fantastic story builder!
    Realizing that so many of us are just trying to get a toe hold in an industry, I think it's easy to forget that we're really just trying to make a good story prompt. watching you work is a little like being an elementary school kid just learning how to create sentences and paragraphs being read a story written by JK Rolling, or Stephen King, or Brandon Sanderson, or... (insert the name of your favorite amazing author). It takes the nuts and bolts of a form of language, and turns it into a world that explodes into your imagination! It's life changing stuff! The kind of moments where there's your life before, and then your life after, if that makes sense. Call it a hinge-pin in the human experience... a place where you bend your perception based on the awe produced by a simple scene, illustrated in fantastic form, that makes you want to BE there.
    To me, it's the truest piece of magic humans possess... the ability to draw our readers/viewers/listeners into a story, and take them on a journey. One that they don't want to leave.
    Now if I could just get past the 'I before E' rule, dangling participles, and subject predicate dissonance... or... Wonky perspective, flat contrast, or bad line work... I'd be able to tell a story that would have my readers/viewers/listeners gasping for breath and howling for more.
    What I've bumped into... and it kind of keeps me up at night sometimes: I've been studying the language so much, and so hard, that if I dig deep and look for the story I've wanted to tell for so long. It's not there. Like it's given up on me.
    Now THAT is a whole different kind of panic.
    I truly believe that being a perpetual student... bores the muse within all of us to tears, and being the fickle creature it is, abandones us to our studies to find more fertile imaginative ground in some other hopefuls mind.
    Kinda nightmare fuel for me.
    Anyway. Sorry for the novel.
    Beautiful as always Hardy! Thanks again!

      Wow Mike, insightful and relatable as usual. The fear of the ideas just not being there anymore is definitely something I've wrestled with. There may not be a quick solution, but it sounds like you need to take a break and refill the inspiration tank. You may just be a bit out of gas and need to focus on intake a bit. Maybe. Good luck my friend and reach out if I can ever help.

    When you paint, do you always have the pen pressure option on flow and opacity activated in brush settings, or only one of them?

    • @fowlerillus
      @fowlerillus  Місяць тому +1

      Great question - actually neither. I set pen pressure to size jitter so that a light touch makes a small mark and a heavy touch makes a large mark. Flow and opacity don't have any pen pressure controls but I turn them up and down with the number keys

    • @user-ts1hr8gv4e
      @user-ts1hr8gv4e Місяць тому

      @@fowlerillus In fact, in Photoshop they do have pencil pressure controls, you can find it in brush settings and in the options to activate the pencil pressure option or you can just press F6, this makes the rest much easier.
