Greed reads the patch notes, the wagons have "heavy siege" armor, which villagers do an extra six damage against.
I wonder if the Cumans would actually work as a counter here; build as many TCs as possible in feudal and then villfight the wagons?

When showing multiple games like this the speed up is very welcome.
Once upon a time, a great man said: "Celt eat TC", and now, five years later, we have this.
Five years? 😳
Hoang legend ❤
White Phosphorus is a true legend. A guy with 1.6k ELO skill able to raise to 2k+ by just coming up with crazy stuff. The Roman strat, improving the YouPudding one, and now this. I hope devs are not too fast to nerf things, let people try to figure things out for a bit first. And please, DON'T nerf the market, ever. Otherwise just remove all units and force everyone to play knights or xbows
Agreed,fully
Don't think he's just 1.6k skill anymore if he's able to do this with multiple cons civs creating them from scratch then he's clearly a 2k player now.
@@HeavySpark well, I meant that if he tried to play meta (e.g., similar strat as his opponent) he would be around 1.6k (as shown by his elo history). It's quite obvious that his unit control and macro aren't at 2k level. However, you are right he is a 2k player now because he is able to create new and good strats. In the end this is a strategy game so I'm happy to call him a 2k player
@@goncal7099 Good point. Sometimes we forget that this game is a strategy game. If you are creative and can come up with meta-breaking stuff, it's a skill we should respect. It's not like meta-defining is something only pros are allowed to do.
@@goncal7099 That's not really an argument. It's a strategy based game and your elo is as high as your best strategies get you. Not whatever hypothetical rank you'd have if you played like everyone else
White Phosphoru definitely deserved his legend video, congrats. Keep up the great content about these exciting new strat developments T90, thanks!
The reason wagons were “bad” was because you could “ghost” your shot if you canceled it too early. It was bad to micro, which needed to be changed. I think the un-usability of it was confused for the unviability of it
They are even worse, I just lost a game using them vs scouts, stupid "buff"
@@sgtpepper8581they have -20 hp, you know.
+31% attack speed cause reload is instant nor after the last shot.
So they are much better against low pierce.
Yeah, lowered base attack, but higher suplement shots is not food against high pierce.
It now takes twice as long to kill full paladin.
But mangonel line is less insanely strong per shot against them.
And as i ve said => much more low pierce armour dps.
Which with now working micro gives more stable for usage, but overall weaker unit in comparison to the release version.
I think it's okay, cause it was a tad too strong in mine opinion.
Yea,i play bohemians and i go straight for hand cannons in castle age cause its civ unique bonus and the only time i manage to build these wagons is when i need support to defend my castle,in other cases i go full halb+handcannons and its very fun to play the game that way
also, they had that mechanic where they first shot their main projectile and then some weak additional ones afterwards. if you cancelled your attack after the primary one and then attacked again, you got the attack delay but the unit only fired the remaining extra projectiles. This isn't the case anymore.
@@IschmarVI yeah, micro control is now not punished
HOLY CRAP, THIS GUY!! I played this guy 6 times when I was between 1150-1250 elo when he would use only Japanese. He used to go suuuper hard in feudal with tons of Men at Arms, and I ended up beating him 4/6 times after I started recognizing his name because I would just make a tower between a wood line and a gold and it would mess him up. So crazy to see him being featured as a HIGH elo legend now because now that long ago he was 1200
Well done villagers!
On another note: I don't think it's a "One trick pony", because of the variety in it. Sure, they're all All-In strats, but that's a playstyle, and White Phosphoru has proven, that he's able to play that with several civs now. Also, I'm happy those players are able to get so much elo from it, because that reduces the chances of me running into them (if I ever find the time to play again, that is) :D
Oh and PS: the description has the wrong link for the "Evolving Already" video.
tried the white phosphoru sicilian strat and walked into white phosphoru bohemians strat....
😂😂😂
This reminds me of the early days of everyone learning the Hoang rush. Love all the strats this community continues to discover
i think both youpudding and phosphoru's strats show that the community really undervalues high quality units, compared to high numbers of weaker/cheaper units
a common theme seems to be units that are strong right out of the gate in Castle age.
@@Appletank8 Agreed. Something all three strats have in common is requiring little to no food, and not needing upgrades. Scorpions and Hussite Wagons don't have many relevant upgrades until Imperial Age. Sergeants get a free upgrade in Castle Age. Your opponent is going to be spending lots of wood on farms and lots of food on upgrades, meanwhile you can just go brr
Well done, Villagers
the fact that he analyzed the weakness of his strat and adapted it to another civ/unit and continued to rise elo shows that he deserves to be up at that elo.
THE CONSPIRACY IS REAL

Very interesting how there's no crazy new strat with the civs that come with the base game. Or maybe that's just because those strats have alraedy been played out. Goth spam, Persian douche, Korean towers, Celts eat TC,
@@kuelf123 there was the inca tower rush that came with the blacksmith changes
Houru homuru, sth like this was inca guy name
@@paulinasieron9261 It's Noboru and they nerfed it a while back.
You could argue Persian douche is similarly powerful but I don't see any other civ being able to dominate in early game.
Well done villagers! There will be no context.
In the second game, blue had stabilized but then sent his two mangonels forward against an all-in that was still going. He had nothing being built behind it yet because his eco hadn't really started back up, and he couldn't afford the losses of the mangonels. That killed him. If he kept them at home and simply focused on surviving the next wave, he should have won.
yeah think so too.
t90, loving the coverage of these sagas. Amazing that a low elo player can rise so high with such crative strats. Keep these vids coming!
The pudding videos brought me back to aoe2 after a long break. Excited to face up against it, I queued up with Bohemians to go fc wagons. First game back my opponent was Sicilians. Most fun game of my life 11
So who came out on top?
Yea you can’t start telling a story without finishing it 😭
@@lokylong28 I got to castle age first and left my base to build a castle on gold and wood. Once my base was flooded with sergants it didn’t matter because they are one of the few units slower than wagons. Just a stream of sergeants bumping into each other trying to chase down wagons while my vills sat under the castle. After about a half hour of thinking he was going to win, opponent rage quitted 11
White Phosporu reminds me so much of _CX_youwei who did basically the same with Spanish and Conquistadors years ago almost every game. Fast Castle, build a castle. Mostly on gold, no farms, idle tc, buy food and raid with conqs. But conqs are weak vs. towers while hussite wagons are not.
This is peak aoe2 what a time to be alive
Seems to me that just going scouts (or feudal eagles for meso civs) would likely be a decent answer to this. For the 800 food it takes to go castle age, you could get bloodlines and ~7 scouts. Once the push with wagons is undercut, then you can go castle age, since your food eco should be good. Other units just aren't going to cut it unless you get a fast age-up yourself to go into defensive mangonels.
In game 1, Greed likely could have turned things around if, instead of cutting production and going castle age, he'd stayed Feudal longer and kept up scout production to protect his eco, then gone castle age later when his eco was stronger and he had enough scouts to handle the wagons. Unlike against Sergeants, scouts do just fine vs the wagons, and they have the speed to run them down.
In the second game, if the opponent hadn't moved out with their 2 mangonels and let them get picked off, they probably would have been able to win as well. Losing those 2 mangonels really cost them by letting the wagons pressure their eco again.
You can also recognize the strat if you see the castle age score dip so early to make the reaction easier.
Good analysis.
Hussites used wagons first as a platform to be above the knightes, latter made the wagons a shouting platform, but used mainly arrows for it. 1 or 2 early guns places inside each wagon were big, massive, and had a long time for charging, powder was quite difficult to find. bows and arbalests were much faster to use and arrows were less expansive. but the powder weapon had a power to hurm through the plates and chains, so it were used as well. main target of wagon team were knights, as a main enemy of Hussite religies move.
those 2 mangos taking out 6 food trucks was great
I made a map with a horde of wagons vs fast fire mangonels. It's super satisfying to spray the wagons ;p
The Hussites utilized early gunpowder to great effect on the battlefield, and developed an early form of howitzer. Before them, at least in Europe, gunpowder weapons were siege weapons, or individuals armed with early hand-cannons. Hussites placed hand-cannons plus crossbowmen and pikemen in covered wagons, and created a circle fort in battle, bristling with guns. They defeated several crusades sent against them, to the point that the Pope actually negotiated with them and compromised, allowing them back into the church with their particular religious beliefs. Unheard of at the time.
Loving these videos man, keep up the great work. I love seeing these strats and attempts of people trying things against them. Also loving the format you have been doing with speeding things up and slowing back at key moments.
I love when you show multiple games and strategy development it's so cool!

These wagons have "heavy siege" armor class. So fun fact. Villagers get +6 attack against them 11
I’ve been doing the same thing for a while at wayyy lower elo on arena, and way les refined. I was also inspired by the gold league matches with bohemians and think that this is really the only place for the wagons, as an all in unkillable early unit
I know you said you REALLY don't want to know what my situation is in regards to seating (6:50) but I'm sitting in my work vehicle and already had my seatbelt on so well and truly buckled in before you told me to :D
i love how war wagons are like little buses with high caliber firepower gently strolling around shootin peeps
Great coverage! These are the things that keep this game so refreshing and new to play, even though it's older than I am. These are the people and the strats we need to keep this game going! Blue's name in game 3 is pronounced as "Chen" by the way! It means dawn or morning or is a surname. Keep up the amazing work T90!
Thanks for making these creative strategy videos T90!! It got me back to playing the game after like 5 months. First game I queued up I used this strategy and won lmao. Second game though someone beat me doing fc inca eagle warriors.
I hope this is a changing in the meta for real. Take the last game, I believe that if blue plays as WhiPho does since placing the Castle (i.e. castle to protect wood and gold, don't create more vills, produce a tons of mangonels) it could definitely have a shot. It is not the civ (or, better, not only) it is also the way the game is seen.
Wow these strats are truly unique and amazing !!!@T90 Wonder if a full commit to walling big (even stone walls)as when you see the opponent's market + blacksmith in early feudal age is feasible. Rewall like a mad man when the food trucks arrive...hopefully initial feudal army prevents the forward castle and by the time he has rams and breaks in there are 20 scouts with upgrades on the field😅.
I love Arabia with Bamboo stragglers and autumn oak patches.
In the last one, it seems like a defensive castle would have been far better. The key is not damaging an all-in player's eco (usually), but minimizing damage and out-booming him. Especially this strat and youpudding, they don't need much eco once in castle age, and they can protect it pretty easily.
That said, it's always easier to make the right call with full vision while spectating. ;)
Very true on both points
In theory tightly timed rushes can counter this, but the thing that makes it so hard is that mangonels and rams are both slower than Hussite wagons. In theory if rams could catch the wagons they would counter them, but they can't without infantry garrison. Mangonels can hit, but you need to attack ground well to hit, and the wagons cost 180 resources vs the 235 of rams and the 295 of mangonels. Thanks to multiple projectiles and a bonus against rams, they do 8 damage per volley against them (and they can't really miss) and it takes a mere 5 wagon volleys kill a mangonel. If you get the mangonel out first, it could win, but equal resources, a moved into each other, the wagons win. And you can kite the rams forever. They can do 13 damage a volley against scouts, with 4x the health, so I think they may well trade cost effectively with them as well.
Edit: I forgot to factor in bloodlines. If you open with a scout rush, you can win with fully upgraded scouts if you go all in.
T90, the 49:23 game vs RUGNAME is the sicilian fast castle vs bohemian fast castle, that game was insane, the meme strategies against each other
Crazy how 1 guy and a semi friendship has changed expectations at the top of the ladder.
That's cool a few games with the same strat to see how it goes in various situations, nice stuff
People who were new to Phosphoru: damn this guy's wilding.
People who watched Phosphoru's minecraft videos: yeah that looks about right.
Historically, hussite wagons were not some unique "unit" but more like whole battle and campain strategy. It was in the time of hussite revolution in Bohemia (attemt of religious reformation, that ended up defending against multiple crusades from rest of Euroe - succesfully). Hussites consisted mostly from peasants, city militias and low nobility, and they could not compete with amount of heavy knights in oposing armies. So they started to use wagons as some type of portable walls. Their armies took loads of them on their campains, chained them together around themselves before battle (or as a line in some chokepoint) and standed on top of them with spears, halberds, flails, crosbows and early firearms. There used to be be even canons between the wagons. So it looked and was used very differenly than here in AoE (but still it´s nice to see it).
It was very efective against heavy cavaly charges (which ruled medieval battles in that region in that time). So efective, that at the end of hussite wars, both sides used them.
As an author of this tactic is considered Jan Žižka (although that is a bit simplified). He was quite genius leader and didn´t lose single battle. Probably most famous military leader here in Bohemia through all history.
The wagons are so silly, irl they have a horse in front dragging them, but here they just have a castle age automobile engine making the wheels turn lmao
Thank you for this wonderful content T90, we love you man, please keep it up! ❤
These games remind me of AOE II all over again, prior the Archery- Boom era, finally some strategy.
I always fall asleep to T90 content I lay in bed and look and the next thing I know I’m asleep. Then I have to rewatch and do the same thing again

And yes, it's good content, and a good idea to show multiple games as well, T90! Thank you for existing!
I want every civ in the game to have a variation on this motive. Fast castle single unit rush that is difficult to counter if you play regular meta.
These games are really fun. I hope Pudding and White Phosphoru find more of these build orders.
I would love a series of watching you master these strategies
I am just wondering if Magyar/Mongol/Meso-American civ eagles will be any good as hard counters for this since all of them are good at getting to castle quick and ruin siege strats, maybe even Gurjaras w/ Shrivamsha riders.
"are you guys ok with this?" yes I love these kinds of vids

Since you wanted to know, im sitting in front of my PC and eating mac n cheese.
I spent around 12 hours playing this yesterday. The best ways to deal with it are with strategic use of vils and mangoes. Monks also have good potential.
Hussite wagons are very well known in bohemia and near nations. Hussites with their wagons beat like 4 or 5 crusades against bohemia kingdom. They never lost until they started infiting. Cav didnt work, knights didnt work, archers didnt work. I encurage you to read of it history, its truly fascinating
thanks for all the content t90!

Well done villagers 👏
I weirdly enough can see persian elephant destroying that if you can get just one or two
yeah was thinking about that. one monastery though and the dream is over 😂
Don't go a knockin' when the wagon is rocking!
I used to be an arena bohemians wagon rush one trick and the problem was always that the other player is also fast castling behind walls. If you could get through the walls and get even 3-4 wagons into their eco, it was usually game over because they just couldn’t do anything about it. If they had redemption and could match your castle time, though, it was pretty rough. This kind of Arabia approach instead to it is so exciting to see!
What if you wanted to have good eco, but god said: that's one chunky boi rollin into your base
I've always wondered why villagers aren't used for defense more. This confirms it can be pretty effective, they were tearing those wagons apart. Way better than cowering in the town center and losing that first. Still lost, but if they'd been supported with just a little army I think he could have come back. Archers was the (understandable) mistake.
i really like these style videos you been doing, following cool players, keep it up
One thing we never see anyone do is wall some sides of an enemy building to force ejection on a favourable side. Works to stop monks from ejecting on the opposite side of knights, mangonels ejecting on the opposite side of your own mangonel (forcing it to instead eject next to your mangonel and melee units that can kill it before it fires), and with this strategy.
if you have a villager to do that much just wall it off completely
@@ferrisffalcis If it would help. It doesn't help if you're trying to kill a ranged unit with melee units. And walling more still has a cost. And sometimes it would be difficult to fully wall because half of the building is in range of the TC.
As YouPudding and White Phosphoru have shown, sometimes all it really needs is one player doing a strategy for it to become popular. My computer can't even run DE so unfortunately I will not be that player, but you could be!
T90's AoE 2 community is about using puddings and white phosphorus against Greed.
I'd like to see someone try to counter by going *infantry+rams.* Infantry in the rams will make them faster so they can run down the wagons. Rams get attack bonus vs seige. Infantry can hop out to defend the rams against vils and maybe sneak some damage in on the wagons before jumping back into the rams. Maybe even include a villager in some of the rams to hop out and repair.
Player could go fast castle and be producing infantry in feudal while the TC researches castle.
Would be funny if phosphoru ends up developing 5 or 6 different all-in strats down the line and just cycles through them all
dont come knockin' when the Hus Wagon's rockin'
Well done, villagers.
that over micro in first game drove me crazy. just let the wagons be. they will clear everything.
The strat makes sense, but the micro was definitely questionable. It seemed like he would put them in places where they could take damage when they didn't need to be. Hard to argue with the result though.
@@DaeValarauko agreed
I wonder what would have happened if mr greed would have recognized the need for gold and went kind of counter all in, towers on the enemy gold, send vills to wood and sell it untill its basically worthless.
If my theory is correct you'd be able to slow enemy army production to a point where one of the following happens:
1. He needs to go out of the safety of his castle to mine stone
2. He needs to stop chopping wood as much and start farming either to sell it or switch to different army
3. He needs to mine stone for another castle or sell it for army
4. He needs to just keep trying even when he sells 100 for 14 and somehow hope for the best
5. Try to get back into the game with rebooming
5 and 4 might as well say 'hope enemy disconects' so lets forget about them.
3 and 1 will leave your vills exposed and if everything goes as I theorize and the all in player actually gets to this point its because he can't mass enough army so leaving his base will leave his limited vills exposed to your army
2 will still be inefficient as you need farming space and you can only sell so much food before its worthless.
So tldr;
Already forward vills deny gold with towers, go all in army yourslef, deny gold with everything you got, sell wood to inflate the exchange rate, survive untill wood sells for pennys puting your enemy into check mate
Im like 5-6k elo and I unintentionally tried it in ranked arena for a quick game. Used rams with wagons. I felt like a bully cuz I didn't like it when players rushed me. Nasty stuff this strat.
34:15 idk man you can do that and left the tc producing with food and more food so even if you're doing this there's still room to not completely stall.
you put a few extra vils on wood to produce more houses and ggs the attack is the same but food is growing in the bg.
like I know it's a lot more to do, but that feels like it got a lot of potential.
the counter is sending vills away in the corners of the map and booming. the wagons are slow, they can't explore the map. let them (very) slowly destroy your base while you build 2 more tcs elsewhere.
i wonder if in an all in with wood/gold only like this, where you have a single building producing wagons at a fixed rate.. if it's worth it to put a dude or two on farms to keep producing vills out the TC since you're limited on the number of wagons per castle anyway
and it gives you a way to eventually go into siege or something
I recall Viper had like 2 farms when he tried the serjeant rush in a YT vid. He also kept trying to produce vills unconsciously with his pro instincts kicking in.
I don't think it could work consistently in the lower ranks though (like 2k elo). These are strategies where you have to go literally all-in to dominate or gg.
I was thinking the exact same! Sure you need to all-in to hit the timings, but after you've got the position, all it takes is ONE villager off of gold or wood to get the ball rolling.
yeah you could see that with 13 on wood and 8 on gold Phosphoru was constantly running into a situation where he'd buy food and make like two vills out of it because the gold kept stacking up and there's only one castle. i think you can optimize this just a little bit further. @@alexzwanenburg4009
Just tried this at 1000 ELO, despite rival have a huge army at the time i started making wagos it was an easy win
Was rushing wagons not a thing? I've done it a bunch of times it fun and overwhelming if you can pull it off. Knights are really the counter for it. So a small monk follow up helps a ton.
Can't wait for theViper to troll Yo and Matador with this strat
Legend still rolling with gbetos atm. He's red phosphoru now.
I faced this strat a few days ago, I dropped a defensive castle on my gold and farms, went full knights and took map control, was able to win the game. My elo is 1000ish though, and I was khmer
