  • The movie you see here was written, storyboarded, shot, directed and edited by our Monday Juniors After School Students 2024 Term 1.
YIFM members take part in weekly filmmaking workshops where they get the chance to devise, write and produce their own work. Members get to explore scriptwriting, work with professional cameras, lighting and sound, and edit their movies right here in our YIFM Studios.
These workshops are where it all began for Young Irish Film Makers. Way back in 1991, Mike Kelly started an after school program for young people in Kilkenny to make films and have fun. We have been doing that ever since and the after school workshops remain the core of our work with young creative people.
Regular workshops give the members a chance to bond as a team, explore their creativity and have fun together while doing it. YIFM staff work closely with the young people to develop their skills over time working on group projects and mentoring them through individual portfolios.
After School Workshops are run during the school terms at our studios in Kilkenny for young people from Kilkenny and the surrounding areas.
Young Irish Film Makers (YIFM) is a youth development organization, founded in 1991. The main aim of YIFM as a national youth arts organization is develop young people's personal and professional talents, skills and creativity. Delivery method of this aim is through the youth arts practice of film making and related digital media production.
YIFM works with over 1200 young people all over Ireland in schools, summer camps, after school workshops and also through The National Youth Film School. The heart of the organization is our digital film making and production studio where young people aged 9 to 25 years are empowered, through practical training programs, to work with professional digital equipment to make films and digital media content.
