I opened Supermacs ( the Old Savoy) as a Manager and then went on to work at Mount Congreve Estate. you got my flat where I lived on tape on the Quay, thanks for the memories.
Hey Extremely late reply, yt algorithm, I had an interview to go work at the Estate back in ‘89 but never got the job because at the same time got the job in Shaws Department Store.
@@GR33KFR3AK Hi. It certainly was an experience living and working in the house. Great memories of there and Mr Congreve looked after his staff. Downsize was I was not driving then and being not on a bus route meant taxi's into town. You probably had a better time working for Shaws.

A great ol city in its day when it wasn't full of scum n dirt and you could drive around it no problem and as for the council clowns who made a right balls of the quay no words for those idiots those were better days for all waterford people times n things changed all for the worst
There used to be a saying that went "All on one side - like the town of Fermoy". Never made a whole lotta sense to me. If the saying went "All on one side, like the town -- _city_ -- of Waterford"! I'd know what they meant, straightaway!
People have strange ideas about how this dirty old place was better than today. Maybe they're just bitter old fellas and old wans. There are things we all miss but i wouldn't go back to the smelly dirty city it was. I will say that i wish theyd bring back the train to tramore. Stupid decision.
I used to love getting breakfast in the Broad Street Shopping Centre with me mam.
Me too
I started my apprenticeship there in 1992.
Fond memories from there will last me the rest of my life!
1974 Mr Galagher was the hotal manager , he was a mean b.....

great stuff but I was there and the sound track was punk rock music on the dole queue: Norrises Corner and bands in the Mansion

Some changes for the worst, some for the better. The Mall definitely looks better today than it did then.
Simple times no mobile phones no internet no work
The mess they made of the quay is unreal
Unbelievable honestly, any other town or city would have turned that space into shops and restaurants not a fuckin car park
Utterly fascinating! Look at the smooth running 4 lane quay!! Thankyou so much for sharing these videos--- am guessing the blue civic was yours?😁
Now 25 years ago a much bigger place then now.

He meant to say "The Red Iron Bridge from 1990" :P
Good work.
god bless waterford
I make he listens to beginned to finished enjoy relaxing with placing the way on tramore young members
excellent but the soundtrack was the Clash and the Stranglers: it wasn't the 19th century
Back when lots of ppl had toyota vans
It has really changed
Many a summer day , we returned back across the Red Iron bridge with our spoils from the Coca-Cola factory 😮😊😂
Burger land and Wendy’s was the spot for me.
After the weekly shopping was done in Darrers, we’d go to burgerland if we were good. They were the best burgers.
'nod of respect to old ard ri hotel'

Great city back then now sadly a pale shadow of it's former self. No longer anything positive of Waterford city in 2016 & beyond.
