Paint ROCKS That Look Realistic #1 (Real-Time WATERCOLOR Tutorial)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- Painting rocks that look realistic is a great skill to have, once mastered they can be added to any painting project.
This is a complete tutorial working on a tonal rock study, with just one colour. Learning to focus on just the tones, the darks and the lights is an important skill to have. It's the tones, the dark crevices and the highlights where the sun shines, which will give the piece a realistic feel. I take you step-by-step through the whole process, explaining everything along the way. Paint along with me, or have a go after the tutorial and see how much you have learnt and remembered. Let me know how you get on, I would love to know.

Not even 2 minutes in and I’ve learnt something, thank you! Just seeing how you made the different consistencies of paint is brilliant! I’ve often struggled with the watery, milky and creamy consistencies always adding way too much water, so thanks so much for that demo. I shall be hunting out my pipettes 😁
Thank you very much Sabrina for both your lovely comment and of course for watching my video. Paul 😀
Fantastic. I am popping off to do myself.
Have fun playing with those paints.
@@TheDevonArtist I have seen dozens of explanations of washes and never one as straightforward as this one. Thank you.
This is the best rock painting tutorial I've seen so far..! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful and thank you Olivia, for your kind words. 😊
Thanks
You are very welcome. 😊
Thank you so very much ... your tips & tricks are brilliant! You know, I think being a Phenomenan is not for always. Real Talent however, like yours, is pur sang... eternal!
That's a lovely thing to say, thank you very much indeed. At least you can see that the way I like to simply play with the paints and paper, it's amazing what you can create when you don't think too much. LOL Paul 🎨
😊
Thank you 😊
HOW ! One looks like a very cool head of crocodile rock !!! ÔÔÔ Paul I lke them !!!!!!
LOL, yes, it does resemble a crocodile! Thank you for watching, Paul :-)
Outstanding!❤😊 Educational and fun. Excellent.
Glad you enjoyed it Pat, thank you. 😊
Just what I need for my next project.😊
Perfect! Go for it Caline 😀
This is fantastic! I've been having trouble remembering whether it's pulling things forward is for darks or pushing back for lights. Now, it will be an easy rule to remember.
If I want to make a thing farther away or smaller paint it dark, because the part of the rock that went away was dark.
If I want to make something closer, or taller and bigger add highlights, or add less dark. When you put a highlight on that small rock in front it actually looked taller and bigger. We will just have to learn by experience just how much dark or light to use.
Thanks for this lesson. I told my husband that I'm gonna paint some rocks 'cause I can't fail at that. He thinks I can draw anything lol.
What a lovely comment you have just left, thank you so much. The good thing about painting rocks, is that to me, not one is the same, so you have a free rein to get creative with every rock you paint. Make them up as you go along, change the shapes, sizes and colours. Thank you for your kind words, Paul 🎨
really helpful video - thank you.
That's very kind of you to say Tricia, thank you. 😀
Amazing! Thank you 👍🙏💞💗
You are so welcome 😀
So helpful, many thanks!
Thank you Barbara 😀
Learned so much. Thank you 🙏

Thank you very much, I have been struggling to get some nice rooks! This is exactly what I was looking for!
Glad I could help Réjean, thank you for watching. 😀
Thank you so much, the tips and trick are fantastic. Mixing my water. I struggle with. Your really talented artist. Again thank you. I’m a visual learner and this helps a lot. Cheers.
Happy to help Lisa, and I'm the same as you, a visual learner. I even learn't a bit about plumbing here on UA-cam! Paul 🎨

I like lighthouses but struggling to make the ledge look for real. Real cliffs. Thanks !
Thank you:)
You're welcome :-)
Thanks for the technique. I’ve been trying to do rocks for a while and they turn out looking like large raisins or a potato. I’m going to give this a try. 🌸
You can do it! I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Paul 🎨
I see what you're doing there at the beginning, but I use pan watercolors. Still, I see how preparing the different dilutions of paint beforehand is super-helpful. Love watching you do this. I see artists do the wet in wet all the time, but I still can't get the hang of it. How is the paper staying wet long enough so you don't get dry paper and hard edges? When you did the second smaller rock and sucked up some of the darkest paint - when I've tried to do that, it just sucks every bit of the color back up. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for watching Kate. 😃
Do not confuse accents with poor grammar.
Thank you Judy, my accent can be tricky to understand, and I have to admit my grammar isn't the best, but I do what I can with my videos here. 😊
