Bob and his brother John wrote the song. In 1963 it became a Patsy Cline classic.

Lyrics to "Faded Love" and "New San Antonio Rose" were written by Bob's youngest brother, Billy Jack, who organized a band for Bob's amusement park, Wills Garden's dance pavillion northeast of Sacramento, from 1942 through 1952. Billy and Tiny Moore developed a faster 4/4 beat music to warm dancers and encourage beverage sales. It seems Bob got the box office and the band had the concessions. There were albums taken from wire recordings from the band's KFLA broadcast which reveal that as early as 1943, Billy Jack's band was playing pure 4/4 beat Rock and Roll, only they referred to it as "fast beat" or "beer selling music."

I got acquainted with a few of them ole boys back in the 80's and 90's when I was going to Bob Wills Day in Turkey. Ole Eldon Shamblin was one of em. He and some of em did a show here in Wichita Falls at one point and he remembered me and came off the stage to shake my hand. I was certainly humbled and impressed with him doing that.

I own the barbershop in Turkey, Texas where Bob Wills was a barber in 1927 & 1928. Ham's Barber Shop is on Main Street in Turkey, TX and I am in the process of restoring it to what it looked like in 1925. We should be done with the restoration this year (2021). I also own the 1948 "Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys" tour bus parked on Main Street at my restored 1928 Phillips 66 Service Station. Turkey has the Bob Wills museum in town and a pretty large monument to Bob Wills in the city park.

I got to meet the gentlemen back in 1987 at Seminole State College in Seminole, Oklahoma; they were as down home, friendly and I had a blast.
I could’ve listened all night but, Leon MacAulliff said they had to get on the road.
The band signed my program ☺️ and I don’t let anyone touch it - it’s framed and not in light.
At one point Al Stricklan stopped the show so I could take his picture!

Many thanks jsham66 for posting this whole final series concert of the Texas Playboys. I did not know about them and stumbled here by accident. Now I know why these boys were, and still are, very much loved by those who grew up with their music. I agree with luvaguitaror2's comments - "simply monumental", "immortal" - and I'll add my own "pure magic". But then words just don't/can't sum them up do they? The only thing to do, really, is just keep going back and hit that replay button :-)

Truly wonderful. But what are we going to be left with when all the old stagers who played the music coz they loved it are called home?.

Love the music, love that song, love the band. Can someone who 's better educated than me tell me who's singing? I'm pretty sure it's not Tommy Duncan, but that's about as far as I can go ... thanks.

Howdy! This performance was in Ft. Worth in June 1986. It was supposed to be their last as the Playboys, but they ended up playing more shows together.

George Strait hired as many of Playboys as could still play. I'm not fond of Texas politics, I just know these guys could play WE are one America, against all foes, foreirn and domestic, Put some twin fiddles on them!
